Classic and Jaguar Weekend 5th/6th April (Organised by the Classic Car Sports Car Club)
Report by Irene Tydeman
When David and I agreed to come and watch Celia and Ian race on the 6th April at Snetterton Race Track, little did we realise that snow would come into the equation! Luckily it wasn't to last long once we were on our way.
We arrived at Snetterton about lunchtime and not seeing the "dicing duo" in the paddock or pits, we decided to warm up in the cafe with a cup of hot chocolate. I phoned Celia to see where they were hiding and eventually caught up with them both near the chicane watching the race for XJS Jags where another female friend was doing battle against 20 or so other blokes and, I think, doing a pretty good job of it!
We then met up with Peter and Maureen, who also braved the chilly weather; saw another couple of races before it was time to find a good vantage point to watch Celia and Ian race in the "Swinging Sixties Series". They would be battling it out for forty minutes (changing drivers half way) with the likes of Jags, an Aston Martin DBS, MGs, a Clan Crusader, Spitfires, GT6, Herald, etc. etc. Should have been a couple of TR6s entered but they must have been frightened off! All was well until Ian took up the challenge, going well until one lap, came into the chicane, gave a glancing blow to an E-Type that was in his way but then, unfortunately, spun on the straight. The consequence of this was a broken axle, which, according to Ian, had probably been coming for some time. You can't buy one of these off the shelf, so Ian will have to fabricate one, but then he's good at that. Better luck with the rest of the season you two.
