Richard and Hazel Humphries

We’d been thinking about buying a classic car for some time but still hadn’t made a decision about which make or model to buy when we went to the Lavenham Classic Car Show on August Bank Holiday Monday in 2005. We were browsing round the cars and liking a lot of them when we came to the TR stand and were quite impressed by the surrey top on several of them. One car in particular caught our eye and we spoke to the owner and his wife about it and what it was like with the surrey top. They showed us all round the car and the owner told us all that he’d done to it, which was quite a lot and we said we’d like to buy one in good condition like his. He then said that it could be for sale as he was looking to buy an Austin Healey 3000. We left him our phone number and 2 weeks later he rang to say the car was ours if we were still interested as he’d found a Healey.
We took the car out for a spin and both enjoyed driving it, so went ahead and became the proud owners of a 1967 TR4A AAR 572F. It came with a hard top that needed a respray and also the usual soft top. The car was in excellent condition and Richard resprayed the hard top and we used it quite a lot on pleasant days during the winter. We also joined the Abbot & Stour TR club where we got on well with people and were made very welcome. Since having the car we’ve had an overdrive fitted, and a new fuel pump and dynamo and are now thinking about putting in more comfortable seats for long journeys. We haven’t yet taken it abroad but we’ve been to the TR International at Malvern and then toured around Wales and Herefordshire and have enjoyed pottering about the lanes in this country and the club road runs and various shows. We’re looking forward to it giving us a lot more pleasure in the coming years.
