April News Letter

Birmingham Group News letter April 2011-04-13
Once again I would like to thank those who managed to get to the meeting.
This month’s attendance was once again a great improvement on previous meetings. Firstly, our second meeting at the Somers club was raided by Arden MG Club. Messer’s Godfrey and Daniels attended the meeting and were given a warm welcome.
I talked about some of the changes happening within the Tr Register. Firstly the magazine. A new improved TR Action hot of the press soon, Issue #250 will have some subtle changes to material and content. I explained to the members present at the meeting, that the editor has requested clearer photos when we submit articles. He was trying to avoid pictures that show the back of heads etc. Secondly I mentioned that the registers were working hard to improve the service given by the insurance scheme.

March Newsletter

This was our first meeting at our new home, the Somers Sports and social club Halesowen. Attendance was encouraging with over 30 people attending.

May I take this opportunity to welcome all the new members who attended and the guys from CVTR who decided to come along and visit us.

The Somers club has all the facilities we require and will comfortably accommodate our concours evening and any functions we wish to entertain in the coming months.

Coventry transport museum Display is proving to be very popular and we are filling the allocated spaces quite quickly. If you do intend to come along and display you TR please contact me so as I can enter your details.

We have also agreed within the meeting that we shall be producing a limited number of window stickers for those who are displaying their cars. I have also been in contact with the owner of another coke cola car. This means we will be displaying two of the three cars that were customised by Star vans for the Coke Cola competition, Along with TS2, Lemans and works cars. It looks as if we shall have a great day.

Nigel Cluley has agreed to organise the Malvern classic car show in April and October. Nigel has requested that if you wish to attend, please contact Nigel as soon as possible as we need to submit numbers to the organisers.

Nigel’s details are nigel@ltl3d.co.uk or 07803201600

We also discussed the possibility of assisting a charity. Many ideas were forwarded on the evening and we shall be pursuing and discussing options at our next meeting.

I mentioned to those present that I would like to start a social committee. This would assist with organising Sunday lunches, quiz nights or drive day. I would like to Thank Rodger King who has agreed to run the Christmas Quiz. You never know his questions might be easier than mine.

Our next meeting is on April 12th at Halesowen.

Regards

Phil Daniels

Birmingham Group February Newsletter

  Dear member,
First, a thank you to those who attended the 9th February meeting and those with man flu who were unable to make it (Nigel). It was good to see a fine turnout with some old faces and some new ones, too. Let’s hope we can build on this and increase our membership's involvement.

Although The Moat has served us well, the meeting decided we should relocate to a more centrally placed venue, which should be more convenient for the majority of our members.   Our new venue will be the:
               Somers Sports and Social Club,
               2 Grange Hill,
               Halesowen,  B62 0JH
which is located close to M5 Junction 3 and can be reasonably easily accessed from all corners of our area. This change also means that we will be moving the meeting day to the Second Tuesday of the month, so our next meeting will, therefore, be held on March 8th at 8:00pm.
The Somers Club is a private members' club, formerly the ancestral home of Walter Somers, a prominent figure within industry in Halesowen and the Black Country, and provides an idyllic base with plenty of meeting space. It is also a real ale establishment and has recently been awarded the national cask ales club of the year.

  Events

  Malvern Classic Car Shows

Nigel Cluley has agreed to organise TR Register stands at these shows which will be held at the Malvern Showground on 17th April and 9th October.   Nigel needs to book names for each event and collect the entry fee of £3 per car, to include the driver and passenger.   These shows provide auto jumbles, trade stands club displays and plenty more to keep you occupied. For more information please contact Nigel directly to book a space.   Contact Nigel via email: Nigel@ltl3d.co.uk or mobile: 07803 201600.

 Coventry Transport Museum

The Birmingham Group has been given the opportunity to exhibit 40 cars outside the museum on Millennium Square, Coventry on Sunday May 1st.   Spaces are at a premium, so it will be first come, first served to reserve your space.   The Museum is currently displaying a selection of Le Mans cars through the years and is well worth a visit. You will also be free to wander through the ages of vehicle manufacturing in Coventry and visit the Thrust exhibition. They also offer a coffee shop, offering sandwiches etc.   I am looking for your support with this show, as it is an ideal showcase to show off our cars and what the TR Register represents. I hope we will have TS2, the Coca Cola TR7 car and some previous Le Mans racers on display. If you are unable to commit to providing your vehicle for show, you are still welcome to pop along for a visit to the museum and see the club display.   The only condition demanded by the Museum is that all vehicles MUST have a drip tray under the engine and gearbox. Preferably, this should not be cardboard as this would not reflect well on the image of our club. A cheap kitty litter tray (or trays) would suffice, as I realise space is at a premium within a TR.   For details on booking a space, please contact me, Phil Daniels, on: 07825 141434 or via email:

   Charity
Nigel has suggested that we try to raise some cash for a charity. He will forward his ideas at the next meeting but has asked for fundraising ideas and possible charities which we could help.

  Social Scene
I would like to propose that we start a social committee to help run the social scene of the Birmingham group. I am looking for members to assist with this. This is not a full time post but a way of helping your club. Whether it’s organising a Sunday lunch, a drive out in the country or even a bigger event.
Thanks for taking the time to digest this newsletter and I hope to see you at the next meeting. If you would like me to add your e-mail address please forward me your details   Phil Daniels Group Leader
