February 2012

Greetings All,
Yes, I know it's late but I was waiting for our planning meeting for 2012 to take place. We now have our program worked out for the year and I hope you can all take part in some or all of the events planned.
If you are planning to go to Classic Le Mans this year please let the office know ASAP the last day for booking was the 31st of January.
Looking ahead for February, the 24th -26th is The Race Retro at Stoneleigh. I don't think the TR Register will be there.
March 4th is Triumph Spares Day at Stoneleigh. Cost £8-00 in advance + £1-00 administration fee, or £12-00 on the day OAP £10-00 (me). Show opens at 10-00hrs.
April 22nd is FBHVC Drive it Day, route and details being worked out now.
Donnington Historic Festival Sat and Sun 5th & 6th of May. The Register East Midland Groups have being asked to help out at this event. Last year was very popular so lets hope for a good one this year. It's HALF price to get in, £18-00 for the car and two people for one day, or £30-00 for the weekend. These are advance ticket prices. If we book all the tickets in one go it will only cost one £1-50 booking fee. If you are interested in going on either day or both please let me know. I will need the money, as well as the names and numbers.
Look forward to seeing you all at some time.
Safe TRing.
Peter

December 2011

Greetings All,

I know it's late but I thought I would wait for the AGM just in case there was any changes, it looks as if you are stuck with the same lot again for next year. Thank you.
Well it's the last one for 2011 and a good year for Camb Followers. We have had our various shows throughout out the year and our run outs which have been very popular.
The International was a great weekend for all who went, with one of our members picking up a couple of prizes.
There has been a change at The Millstone Inn again, I have spoken to the landlady Phillippa Scott and she is very happy to have us continue our meetings there. If you are interested in food Wednesday night is steak night, Rump steak at £8.98 and Sirloin at £10.95. The food looks good and tastes good as well.
For those who don't go to Wistow how about a meal at the Millstone one night. We did it a couple of year ago and we all enjoyed a good evening. Please let me know if you are interested.
For those who keep an eye on car prices I found these in the classic mag the other week.
1959 TR3A £36.960
1964 TR4 £33.600
1967 TR5 £32.480 plus commission
It looks as if classics are on the move again.
We have had an excellent turn out at our last couple of meetings with a couple of new members joining us, nice to see you all.
We already have a few ideas for 2012, if you have any your self please let me know.
The next meeting is Barnack on Wednesday, and don't forget Wistow on the 21st.
I would like to wish everyone a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS and a GREAT NEW YEAR.
Look forward to seeing you all next year.
Peter.

November 2011

Greetings All,
Now the cold weather is drawing in its time to wash and polish the car for the winter months, check the heater in the garage is working, and wrap the car up in some warm blankets.
There still a couple of shows on offer,
TRGB's autojumble is on Saturday October 29th, I shall not be their as I am having a minor operation on that day.
November 11-13th is the NEC Classic Car Show, lots of cars and plenty of bit and pieces as well, any one going ?. Book you tickets on line and save some money, hand your ticket stub or voucher to your club stand and your club gets a commission.
November 27th is the 9th Malvern Drive in Classic Car and Bike autojumble.
The Ten Pin bowling night was very enjoyable evening, with excellent company and a very good buffet. It seems there are a few Ace's among the TR group, one in the summer might be interesting.
I had a very pleasant drive to Stoneleigh  last Sunday for the Restoration Show lots of stalls and plenty of bits for sale. The TR stand was very busy with people enquiring and joining. We had a TR4A on the stand
being rebuilt, and that gave people a sight into what's under the body. It proved very popular.
I still have some places left for the AGM and Christmas dinner. If you would like to go please give me a ring. Last date for booking November 21st. I shall also need you food choice.
Has any one got any good photo's of our 35 Anniversary gathering, the landlord at the Millstone would like one to put up in the pub.
The Standard Triumph Marque Day is on Sunday May 20th 2012, at the Prescott Speed hill climb. We are trying to get a group together to go, please let Trevor or myself know, it is reported to be an excellent weekend. The TR Membership Survey, have YOU done it yet, it only takes a few minutes and it could help how the club is run.
I hope to see you at Barnack next month all being well.
Safe TRing
Peter.

October 2011

Greetings All,
September has been a quite month for some. Vicki and I managed to get to The Bicker show, a bit windy but fine, the car stopped on the way home but it was the fuse that was causing the problem. Could do with a new fuse box me thinks.
Quite a few people have been away in France and other places, also the Goodwood festival so we where a bit thin on the ground at the last meeting.
On the home front, the TR6 got through its MOT, just a slight earth problem which I think I have fixed.
There are a couple of trips out during the next couple of months,
There is a MG and TR Day at Donnington Park on Sunday October 14th, the Restoration Show on Sunday October 23rd at Stonleigh, TRGBs open day on Saturday October 29th and in November its the Classic Car Show at the NEC on November11-13th.
Our Ten Pin bowling night at Pidley on Monday Oct 17th look to be full, but you can still turn up for the meeting.
We still have some places left for our Christmas Dinner so please book now.
Looking forward to 2012, if anyone has ideas for a trip out or a weekend away please let me know. I have a couple of dates for 2012, classic Le Mans July 6-8th, then the International at Malvern, August 10-12th. I am also trying to get a few of the local groups together for a day out next year.
Don't forget our next meeting is at Pidley, Oct 17th.
Look forward to seeing you .
Peter.

September 2011

Greetings All,
We had another good month with the TRs. I missed the BMC Rally at Ferry Meadows, instead Vicki and I attended the 20-49 gathering at Burghley house. In all 77 cars turned out, one of the best events i have been to for a long while. I got to the 20-49 meeting at Exton but went in the euro box, the weather not being nice for TRs.
Our 35th birthday party went with a bang. We had a great gathering of TRs in the car park with Trevor's TR2 and Gary Scott's Dove being picked by the landlady as the ones she would like to take home.
Sorry to say that Andy Brown did not make it, I hope his car is now OK. The Buffet was excellent and so was the company, thanks to all who made it so.
The next day we were off to Sunny Hunstanton with the Wensom group, I believe about 18 cars in total. We managed to win the Best Club Stand award, my thanks to all who took part, we shall have to go next year to take the shield back..
The day turned out to be very warm and I think every one had a good time.
Details of Classic Le Mans 2012 is now on the TR Register Web Site and also in TR Action. If any of you intend to go please let me know so we can put a list together for bookings and travel etc.
A couple of shows still on offer, Jaguar and TR4 day at Belton house Sunday 4th September.
September 2-4th Vintage Car and Country Show at Skylark show ground Wimblington, Nr March.
October 2nd, TSSC all Triumph Day Duxford.
The Autumn National Triumph day Donington Sunday October 16th.
Monday October 17th 10 pin bowling, Pidley Golf Club, no meeting at Wistow that month.
Names please so we can book, food is available but I think it needs to be booked, more details later.
October 23rd, National Restoration Show, Stoneleigh.
I shall also be needing names for our AGM and Christmas Dinner on Friday December 2nd. Places limited to 28, so please get your names down ASAP.
Menu and price next month.
Food for Petrol.
The corn used to make 25 gallons of Ethanol would feed one person for one year, "save the planet or die of hunger"
See you at Barnack next week, Safe TRing
Peter.

August 2011

Congratulations to Tim Hurry on winning a Silver Award for his TR6 in the Pride of Ownership Class,at the International at Harrogate, and to beat it all he also won The Best Car of The Show competition. Well done Tim.
We had a very good turn out at the International at Harrogate, with people camping and doing B&B. the only thing was it was cold at night, (but I didn't feel a thing). I think a good weekend was had by all who attended. Harrogate is a lovely venue with lots of space and nice countryside.
I must say the traffic on Friday afternoon was very heavy, no accidents, just slow moving traffic. not quite right for TR's.
I hope every one had a safe journey home.
For those interested in going to Classic Le Mans. The TRR are putting the show on again in 2012. details will be out later or on the web site.
the Kimbolton Castle Country Fayre was a great day out for all. We had around 9 cars on show, but a little bit of rain spoilt it.
The quiz walk at Helpston went well, thanks to those who made an effort to do it and to those who did the leg work in staging it.
Our meeting nights have been well attended with the odd new car turning up. Silverstone looks as if it was a good weekend, I just hope it doesn't clash with the international in 2012.
Thanks to all the team for there hard work in putting the CD together for our 35 birthday. We hope you enjoy it. If you haven't decided to attend please make your mine up soonest. there is plenty of room,
so come and join the crowd for the day. It's August 20th from 12-30hrs.
The day after sees the Camb Followers of to Sunny Honey for the Kite Flying and car show.
Now an invite for October 2nd and 3rd, Corby Glen Sheep Fair, a display of cars, with judging for the car the judge would most like to take home. Winner receives a bottle of Champagne.
Times are from 11-00 to 16-00hrs. Plus lot of other things.
Other events. BMC/BL Rally Ferry Meadows on Sunday Aug 7th.
20/49 meeting at Exton on Thursday Aug 4th.
Hope to see you at Barnack on Wednesday
Safe Driving.
And if you are still thinking about the Birthday party on Aug 20th, give me a ring.

Barrowden proved very popular with some very interesting cars turning up.
We missed the Bourne Classic Car Show and also the East of England Show due to both Vicki and myself having a bad chest infection, as have lots of other people. Lets hope it goes away soon.
I believe the BBQ at Bicker went well, but was down on numbers, at least the weather was good. I'm sorry to hear that Sally Burton had a fall at the Garden Centre and broke her wrist, which had to be plated, so the never got to the BBQ. Get well soon Sally.

Also if you want to attend The Family's day at RAF Wittering on July22nd please give me a ring ASAP.
Vicki and I joined the Red Rose Group for there 40th birthday party last weekend, 36 cars took part in a 75 mile run into The Forest of Bowland, lovely views, when its fine. We had a great time,
good company, good food and good beer. We got sun burnt on the way back on Sunday, what a difference. We covered 580 miles in all.
It's getting close to our 35th party, I still need names for this event which will take place at The Millstone Barnack, again please let me have your names.

January 2011

Greetings All,
I hope you all had a good New Year and are getting ready for this year.
Well for the first update of 2011, I was hoping to start on a happy note, but looking back in my TR6 log book I found that the cost of petrol in February 2009 was 90p per ltr, in March 2011 it was 1.16p per ltr. In February 2011 the cost is 1.32 per ltr. and according to "government sources" expected to rise another 4p per ltr. At this rate we shall just be looking at the cars in the garage.

On a more happy note, it was nice to see a good turn out at both Barnack and Wistow in January. There seems to be a few cars being worked on including mine. By the time you read this the TR2 will have gone to a new home, which gives me lots of room in the garage to work on the TR6. We hope to have the 2011 events list out soon, I hope you will be able to join us on some if not all of our runs.

One of our main events this year is our 35th  anniversary which is been held at The Millstone Barnack on August 20th. The cost £8-00 per person to cover the bufet. If you would like to attend please let  me have your name so that I can get a feel for the numbers. It would be nice to see as many Camb Followers, current and past  attending  this event. So, if you know of an old member who would enjoy reliving their TR History please do invite them along.  Please don't wait till the last minute to book. Names and money to me by June 30th please.

Sunday April 17th is Drive your Classic day. Alan Lyon has arranged a nice 45 mile scenic run on the most pleasant roads, (with some hills!) visiting some of the nicest areas of Lincolnshire. The run will include  a lunch at The Fox & Hounds at Old  Somerby Lincs. This inn is an inexpensive place to eat with a good choice of food. We have a room booked for 26-30 people.
ENTRIES PLEASE ASAP. To Alan Lyon, 89 Back Gate Cowbit, Spalding Lincs PE12 6AP, 01406380698 or e mail lyon8@btinternet.com, or to me.THE COST is £12-00 per person including a 2 course lunch.

So get the TR out and come and join us for some fun.
Safe TRing see you on the open road.
Peter.

December Update

Greetings All,
Well this is the last update for 2010 as I shall not be in the
UK for Christmas. I will try and get a short update out later in Dec just to let you know what happened at the AGM. and Xmas dinner.

I shall not be sending Christmas cards out this year, at 42p each stamps are too dear, but I am making a donation to the RAFA Wings Appeal 2011.So I would like to wish every one;

A Very Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year, with many miles of safe TR driving.

After a trip to
Lincoln early in November my fuel pump started making a loud noise, on checking i found it to be 13 years old and has done about 50,000 miles, so it looks as if i shall need a new one before the VAT goes up. Early Xmas present?.To help improve the brake lights I have fitted a new LED light just behind the filler cap, and also some new LED bulbs for stop and tail, all I have to do now is test them out at night.

I have modified the car lift and it works quite well. I had to make a couple of ramps to get the ground clearance up so I could slid the thing in. When up it gives about 2 foot of working height, I just need to try it out on a TR3A at some time. Not as nice as Trevor’s double bay up and under arrangement, but it will save the poor old back a bit.

Look forward to seeing some of you at the Christmas Dinner and our meeting nights during December.
Have a good one.

Peter

November Update

Greetings everyone,
We have had a good month with excellent turn outs at both our meetings. New member Phil Jane has joined us with a very nice TR3A, I hope we see him and his car at some of our meetings.
Duncan and I were at the Restoration show at Stonleigh, which was much quieter than normal. I did manage to buy a car lift, but I have to make it fit the TR6. It will be available for hire when it is.
We also had a bumper turn out of Camb Followers at the TRGB Autumn sale. I have never seen it as busy- everyone was after a bargain. Robsport where also there with a nice selecton of TR7s and TR8s for sale.

December 3rd is our Christmas Dinner and AGM at The Three Horse shoes at Wistow. I still have 3 places left, so if you want to attend please give me a ring ASAP.Our Committee consists of three people, Trevor Sherwood who looks after the finances and the membership, Dave Burton who took over as social scene reporter last year and me as group leader. We are always looking for people to help out or take over any of the above posts. So if you feel inclined you will need to let me know before November 15th. You will need to be proposed and seconded, just to keep it legal.

October Update

Greetings all,
Well that's another month gone and with it the sun.

Our monthly meetings are being very well attended and thank to all those who turn up, it’s nice to see you. We had a new member at Barnack last month,Seth, who is a motor engineer and  looking for a TR6. I also had a phone call from a new local member who did not leave their name, and I forgot to ask! They have recently purchased a red  R3A, hope to see that soon. So do contact me again and come along to our meetings. Peter and Kate arrived in their new TR7 and very nice it looks as well.

The Bicker Steam Fair was very busy when it didn't rain.  The latest police “Tractor” as featured on TV and in the national press was on show, not much good for the motorways except if you want to run over some thing. We had three TRs on show with lots of other makes as well.
The Christmas menu is out on last months update, and we still have a few places left, so give me a ring to book, 01733343625.
The end of October sees the Restoration Show at Stoneleigh on the 24th and on the 30th it's TRGBs auto jumble.
That's it for now, look forward to seeing you at the next meeting.
Safe TRing.
Peter.

September Update

Greetings All,
I hope you have had a good August. It's been busy for some and quite for others.

I had half a day at the BMC/BL Rally in Peterborough and then picked Vicki up and went to Burghley for the 20-49 meeting which was very well attended.

Thanks to the Ladies for a great day out, we had a very good turn out and a lovely run to Burghley for our picnic, which included a fine selection of very nice sweets which our ladies produced. Thanks once again to all who attended and for making sure the weather was fine.

I did not attend the Maxey show which was a bit of a washout, but I believe some of our members braved, Tim Hurry coming away with a prize for his very tidy Magenta TR6. Well done Tim. Tim also attended the “kite festival” at Hunstanton.

We took 7 cars to Little Gransdon for the Children in Need Air Show, and is good to see our newest members Dennis and Natalie supporting us. Their Concours winning TR7 received a lot of attention. Due to very strong winds some of the flying was cancelled, but what did take place was very enjoyable with some stunning aerobatics. In all, combined with the North London Group and
Lea Valley, we had 27 TR's on display and raised almost £200 for the Charity. Thanks to the North London Group for the events tent, we needed it when it rained, thanks to all who had a hand in putting the show together.

From one Airshow to another, Vicki and I went to The Lincs Avation show at
East Kirkby to see the Lancaster run up and taxi. The Memorial Flight Lancaster did a flypast as well so we got two for the price of one. A really good day out.

Our monthly meetings have been very well attended with a couple of new members turning up with their cars. Nice to see you all, and don't forget Wednesday night at Barnack.

Safe TR’ing

August Update

August Update

So what happened to July?

But here goes,
Greetings All,I hope your month has been a good one.  It's been a busy month for the travellers of Camb Followers, 10 cars ventured forth to Classic Le-Mans, where the weather was very hot all weekend, temperature's in the mid 30s and even low 40s! It was a great weekend with plenty of excellent racing in all classes, and plenty to see as well. The Triumphs on the grid all performed very well with I believe one winning its class. No major problems with our cars either despite the heat. I covered a total mileage of 810 at 26 mpg, some stayed on for a few days with well over a 1000 miles covered. The cars ran very well with only a few miner faults. (Trevor has bought a new coil ) and Duncan’s TR5 ran like a dream.

After a few days rest we where all off again to the International at Malvern for the 40th year of the TR Register. The TRR managed to gather lots of race and rally car together for the event with some drivers and mechanics from those days as well. (pity I forgot the camera)Thanks to all those who made both events great, good company, good conversation and team work means we all enjoyed ourselves. Thanks also to those who lead the convoy runs to both events, what would we do without you?

On Wednesday August 4th we should have a visit from the Leics group, they normally bring a few cars along so please turn up and join the fun.

Ladies day on August 8th starts at The Three Horseshoes at Wistow at 10-00hrs then a nice gentle run to Burghley House Stamford for a picnic. If you wish to go please give Dave Burton a ring ASAP on 01733205670 to book your rolls.,Tea and coffee will be available, and bring a bowl and spoon for dessert, Or if you just want to join us turn up at Burghley at around 12-00hrs.

The Knebworth Classic Show is on August 29-30th, it will cost you £8-00 per person to get in, but it's a very big show. I believe the TR Register will be there as well.

Duncan still has a couple of tickets for The Little Gransdon Charity Air Show on August 29th, please ring him ASAP on 01733211167 to book. Tickets are £5.00

Another small but interesting show is The Bicker Steam Threshing Fayre on September 11-12th at Bicker near Boston. This is organised by TRR members David and Celia Dawson who did our joint group BBQ so well last month. Contact Duncan for details and booking form.

In  September is The Bedfordshire Steam Farye, admission gives you access to the Shuttleworth collection, Birds of Prey Centre and the Swiss Garden. Adults £12-00 Seniors £8-00. Names to me please.

That’s the lot for now I will have no doubt forgotten some thing, hope to see you all some time. I am at the BMC/BL Rally on Sunday August 1st at Ferry Meadows, looking for spares.
Peter.

June Update

Greetings All,
I thought that I had better get this months update out before the bank holiday weekend and give Duncan a chance to post it to The Web page.

The Bedford Show at Woburn Abbey was a very wet and cold event. We arrived at 09-45 and found a very wet area to park. Although we were on a hill the ground was like a bog. The show was supposed to start at 10-00hrs, but by 12-00hrs car were starting to leave the site and we left at 13-45hrs. The poor food vans, three of them, did not do much trade and the auto jumble was 4 stalls, not a patch on Shuttleworth, where you could walk around for a couple of hours. I for one will not be there next year, assuming after that poor show there is one next year. The Reasons given for moving from Shuttleworth was Health and Safety need I say more?

Now if you are unable to go to The International at Malvern this year why not try the Silverstone Classic Weekend. The TR Register and Nene Valley have arranged for a special club display area and discounted booking code for tickets (SC10TRR) until the 30th of June 2010, the cost  Friday £25-00. Saturday £35-00, Sunday £35-00, 3 day ticket £80-00. Cars will be parked on the infield. Contact the TR Register or Rob Isaacson, on noscaasite@hotmail.co.uk, it could be a good alternative weekend. Pity the two clash.

Please don't forget the BBQ at Dave and Celia Dawson’s place on Sunday 27th June at Bicker. Just bring your own food along to be cooked and the rest is provided. I need your NAMES and Numbers before Friday 13th June so Dave can sort out the salad stuff. We will be joined by the Lincs Group so do come along for a good day out.

Trevor will organise a run from the Cambs area to the Golden Pheasant at Eaton to arrive about 10-30hrs, where Tea and Coffees will be available,( please use this facility as the Golden Pheasant is going the extra mile to accommodate us). Duncan is organising the run from Eaton to Bicker from about 11-15hrs to arrive around 12.30

We had another good turn out at the Barnack meeting with another new member, Stuart, turning up with a TR6.  Richard a member for some time joined us for the first time at Wistow. So welcome Stuart & Richard, nice to see you both and we look forward to seeing you on a regular basis. Trevor arrived at Wistow in his newly restored TR2 which looks very nice in Primrose. No hood or side screens yet – so no Helen!.

News of a Classic car Show from an old member who still has his TR3A (derelict), this is at Croydon Cum Clopton Cambs on
Sunday 4th July 2010, lots to see, so it says. If you are interested please give Malcolm Ralph a ring on 01223208939 or 07801434603 for details.

And, just to keep you all fit, Dave and Sally have arranged a walking treasure hunt and quiz around the Village on July 19th at Wistow. Please turn up with the Ladies for a "short stroll" and drinks after. A prize will be awarded . "His and Hers" Start from 19-00hrs and should last for about ONE Hour if you don't get lost!!

News on
Duncan's TR5 It's running OK at last and we look forward to seeing it on the road very soon.

Look forward to seeing you all at our next meeting at Barnack, and Wistow and of course the Joint Groups BBQ.

Peter

May Update

Greetings all,
And well done to Trevor, his TR2 has now got it's MOT and is on the road, he beat
Duncan by a couple of weeks. Duncan's has been held up first by a series of by small problems which took ages to fix, and then an engine problem. The engine is now running but it still is not quite right, but it's closer than it was so his MOT remains imminent.

I am sorry I missed the Drive your Classic Day but I was indisposed. I hear every thing went well with 13 cars turning out in pouring rain. The weather did improve as the day went on and the coffee break and fresh bread and rolls at Denver Mill was enjoyed by all especially those who needed to dry out! The day was rounded off by an excellent meal at Necton. I belive everyone the event, and or thanks go to Alan Lyon for organising the run again.

People going to the Bedford Show should meet at the Buckden Roundabout Shell Station on the A1 by 08-30hrs so we can leave for Woburn Abbey at 08-45hrs. We shall need time to set up before the show starts at 10-00hrs. Let’s hope the weather is fine.

The Inter Group BBQ with the Lincs Group will take place on Sunday 27th June at Bicker nr
Boston. Make a NOTE of the DATE. Celia and Dave Dawson will organise silly games and provide the salads and I am certain David wil be pleased to show all around his small collection of classic cars.
Participants are asked to bring along there own uncooked food, drinks and something to sit on. We will need to be at Bicker by 12-00/12-30 hrs. Would some one in the Cambs area like to organise a run up to The Golden Pheasant at Eaton for 10-15 am please?. Tea and coffee's will be on sale, please use this facilities.
Duncan will sort a run out from Eaton to Bicker leaving approx 10.45 to arrive at Bicker for 12’ish. PLEASE if would like to come and I hope you will, I need NAMES and NUMBERS before FRIDAY 13th JUNE so Dave can make arrangements.
So come along and join the Lincs Group and the rest of the Camb Followers for a great day out.

If you haven't got the details of the East Elloe Run on June 6th, just go on line for the entry form and details. www.eemc.co.uk.

Our first meeting at Barnack with the new Landlord and Lady went down well, lets hope it continues, he even provided chips for us.
Hope to see you all there on Wednesday May 5th.
Time is getting short for Classic Le-Mans and we need to get together for a chat about where we all meet .
That's it for now,
Safe TRing.
Peter.

April Update

Greetings all,
Duncan and I attended the Group Leaders meeting at Didcot on Sunday last. As per last year the GLs were invited break into groups and consider five various topics including “How to encourage TR7 owners to join the club”, “What  will the TR Register be like in 5 years” and what benefits should the TRR offer its members”. After Lunch each group presented its thoughts and ideas, these will then be taken to committee for further discussion as ways to improve the club.
While there we picked up our new “sail” Banner for use at shows, its quite nice and tall enough for all to see. However it does not fit easily into a TR and may need modifying for transport – we will see.

We have had two good meetings during March. 20 members turned up at Wistow, and 15 at Barnack, and there were several TRs in the car park. As the weather improves in April (hopefully), we should improve on these numbers which will bode well for our future events when we hope will see many more TR's out in all there glory. We especially look forward to seeing our new member’s cars during the next couple of meetings.

The servicing is now complete on my TR6, and I trust you will all be giving your TRs the once over before setting forth on the highways and byways. I hope to get some more work done on the TR2 and complete the rear end. Duncan's TR5 is progressing slowly, its the small things which cause the problems and delays for an MOT. With some help from me and David Dawson  we have the brakes working, the engine starts and runs, the throttle cable is fixed, its the wipers and washers next, then onto the MOT! lets hope it passes.

Due to it's proximity to Easter and as many of you have prior family arrangements I have deferred the East Kirby trip until later in the year. Dinner for the Drive your Classic Day is fully booked as Alan has had a fantastic response to this event which grows in popularity each year. Lets hope for fine weather. Trevor is sorting out the tickets for the Bedford or Woburn Abbey show on May 2nd. You will need to contact Trevor quickly if you want a club entrance ticket. We will meet at the Shell Petrol Station at Buckden on the A1 at 8.30 to leave at 8.45 for the run down to Woburn Abbey. This will give us time to arrive and set up our display before the show starts.
For those going to Classic Le-Mans don't forget to pay the rest of your camping money with your unique booking number before the end of April. There are no refunds on deposits.
Breaking news, the IWE 2011 will be held on The Great Yorkshire Showground at Harrogate. Provisional date 29-31st July 2011.

Hope to see you all at our next meeting at The Millstone Barnack on April 7th, and bring the TR.
Safe TRing,Peter.

March 2010 Update

Greetings all Camb Followers,

Welcome to those who are receiving this Update for the first time. We hope to see you at our meetings during the year, either at Barnack or Wistow or ideally both!

Considering the weather our meetings in February have been very well supported and we are pleased to see some new members and new faces. We had over 20 people at Wistow and about 12 at Barnack on an atrocious evening, not at all bad for this time of year. And a special welcome to Liz , TR3a, who is new to the
Stamford area.

I am putting our first trip of the year to the Aviation Heritage Centre at
East Kirkby, Lincs on Saturday April 3rd. This is a taxi day for the Lancaster and also a Model aircraft show and flying weekend. There is plenty to see and hear, like the sound of 4 Merlin engines starting up. We had a great time there last year and on this occasion there will be more to see and do.

If you want to go please let me know so I can arrange things.

April 25th is “Drive Your Classic day”. Alan Lyon has put a run together for us starting in Wisbech and heading off into
Norfolk with a coffee stop on route and dinner at our destination. Places are limited for dinner, so if you want to take part please give Alan a ring on 01406380698 or E mail at lyon8@btinternet.com for more details and an entry form.

The Shuttleworth show has moved this year due to H&S considerations, its now at Woburn Abbey, a little bit further down the road. This is a good show with plenty of Auto Jumble and Cars. We shall be going on Sunday May 2nd and Lea valley TRs should be in attendance on the bank Holiday Monday. Names to Trevor or me. We are not sure of costs yet but normally in the region of £5.

Once again our Ladies are putting on a Day out and picnic for us on August 8th, more details when I have them.

For those who attend the International weekend it will be the last one at Malvern for a year. Next year could be at
Harrogate on the show ground. Please let me have your thoughts on that move before the Group Leaders meeting on March 28th. Distance wise its about the same from Market Deeping as it is to Malvern, also its straight up the A1. A great place to visit.

I have application forms for The Bourne Classic Car Show and The BMC/BL Rally at Ferry Meadows. Also if you want a good day out try The Tour of Lincs.100 Classic on Sunday May 9th. This is in aid of The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance. Entry fee £30-00 per car. Start and finish at RAF Cranwell.

A change to the events for 2010. The BBQ at Dave Dawson's will now take place on June 27th details later. The Little Gransdon Charity Air Show takes place on August 22nd. If you want to book a place Trevor will need your money up front. Names to Duncan at duncan_jolly@fastmail.fm. This an excellent show and all proceeds go to Children in need.

This morning I have received my TRAction. Well done to Dave for getting something in, I know it was short notice due to editorial difficulties at the office according to Steve Redway.
Don't forget the Triumph Spares Day at Stoneleigh on March 7th. If you are going meet up at the TR Register stand at
1.00pm for a chat and update. Hope to see you all there

Well I am glad that February is over but it looks as if the weather for March will be just as bad, wet and windy but lets not let it put us off enjoying our TRs

Next meeting at Millstone Barnack on Wednesday 3rd March.
If you need to contact me please ring 01778343625 or use the E mail.
Safe Tring.
Peter.

February Update

Greetings all, I nearly missed this one having been very busy over the last month.
Our first meeting of 2010 saw a small group enjoy a very pleasant evening at the Millstone even though it was a cold night. We welcomed Rod Sortwell and his wife who own a TR3A. We hope to see them and the car during the year.

It's been a quiet month for working on the TR6, but I now have my rear bumper back looking very nice and my RPM gauge has been sorted out, all I need is time and warm weather to fit them. Both Duncan and Trevor are working hard to get there cars sorted out for the MOT's and ready to use for the season. We had a good turn out at Wistow, lots of news and chat. We are still working on the program and hope to have it out next month.

Looking through the Classic Car papers , I found it interesting the number of TRs coming on the market with "low mileage".Doing a quick check the average mileage on some of them was from 875 miles for a TR4 to 1800 miles for a TR3A per year.  Seeing that I have done an average of 3500 miles over the last 11 years I have owned  my TR6. I don't know if the have been lay ed up for years or what.I can only say that with 8 owners before me and 25000 on the clock when I bought it, I could say that this was low mileage. And one thing, how do they prove it. Food for thought!.There is hope for the TR's yet, if a Bugatti that has been under water for over 70 years sells for £229,000, what should a good TR make,Classic Le-Mans is moving ahead the camping and ferry is all booked, as is the accommodation on this side, all we need is the B&B on the other side.

Our next meeting is at The Millstone  Barnack on Wednesday February 3rd, hope to see you all there.
Safe TRing,Peter.

December Update

Greetings All,
It hardly seems like a month has passed since I wrote the last Update. But it has. November has been a very busy month what with courses and shows we don't seem to have stopped.
The show front has been quite busy with more and more every year.

Earlier this month
Duncan and I where on the TR Register  Stand at the NEC and what a busy time we had. We saw quite a few of the register members, but also lots of people interested in buying or rebuilding TR's. It was nice to see the Coke/Levi TR7 on the stand and also to learn that it and TS2 are taking part in the Round Britain Reliability Run in 2010.

I am happy to say that the Camb Followers Xmas dinner and AGM was fully booked, and once again jerry gave us an excellent meal. The raffle had more prizes in that ever and I think no one went home empty handed. It was especially good to see our “
Camp Flowers” in attendance once again. I think they must like us.

It looks as if I am in the driving seat for another year, thanks for your vote of confidence.
As you may have heard Nina has stood down as our writer for the TRaction (due to pressure of work) and David Burton has agreed to give it a go, ( I think Nina twisted his arm out in the car park between courses!), Trevor has remained as Treasurer and reported that our finances were pretty healthy at around £600 in the account.

Looking ahead for 2010, we already have a few things in mind, and have a couple of volunteers to run a couple of events. If you feel you can help please let me know. These include the Drive it day run which will take us out to meet up with Wensum, the ladies day which was such a success last year and the BBQ with Linc’s group just for starters.

As you will have seen in TRaction it's the 40th Anniversary of the TR register on
the 10th January 2010 at The Holt (Hopcroft Holt), lets hope the weather is good and we can make the trip down for it. If you intend to go please let me know and we will organise a group run.
Our trip to Le-Mans is taking off with about 10-12 cars going. All I need is your paper work and money so I can make a block booking for the camping.

My thanks to all our Camb Follower members who have turned up at our meeting nights, shows and run outs, it's been nice to see you all, and to see the numbers slowly but steadily swelling. Lets hope to see more of you next year and some new faces as well.
It is hoped to have our events list out by February 2010 so please pick out the events you can attend and come and join us.

My next update will be after Christmas, so may I wish you all a very MERRY  CHRISTMAS &  A  HAPPY  NEW  YEAR.
Safe Driving,
Peter.

November Update

Greetings All,If you are receiving this update for the first time welcome to Camb Followers. I have just updated my E mail address and find I have about 10 new ones, so welcome. If you do not wish to receive this monthly news letter please let me know.

October started well with 22 people turning up for our dinner evening at The Millstone at Barnack, the food as well as the company was great. Vicki and I departed early as we had driven up from Bude and were both a bit tired, but we had a very good evening.

Quite a few of the Camb Followers took part in the 20/49 clubs Autumn Ramble, through the country lanes of Rutland, Lincs and Leics, some nice little villages to see way out in the wilds.

Duncan and his team are working hard on next years Classic Le-Mans trip, It looks as if prices have gone up by about 30%. Details and booking on the TR le mans Micro Web Site. If we are to travel together and camp together we will need to book together as pitches are now numbered.

Our Christmas Dinner and AGM takes place on December 4th at The Three Horseshoes at Whistow 19-30 for 20-00hrs. We are limited to 28 in the restaurant but you can still come along even if you don't want to eat. We have 3 places left. Orders for food to me and money to Trevor by the end of this month please. Last year I said that I would like to stand down as group leader but as we have not had any one volunteer to take the job on I shall carry on, that's if you want me to? Trevor has said he is willing to continue as Treasure and membership coordinator and Nina is happy to do the Magazine bit.

Looking ahead at runs for next year and other things. We are starting to complete our calendar. If any one would like to organise or assist in organising any of the events listed or if you have any ideas for an event, run out or just some fun, please contact me.

We have the following in mind thus far;

A joint group BBQ at Bicker with the Lincs Group.  Dave Dawson has offered his large field for the event.

A trip to Adams brewery at Southwold some time in the summer. Gerry, the landlord at the Three Horseshoes Wistow, is looking into this for us.

A trip to Norfolk to meet up with the Wensom Group on “Drive your Classic” day in April. This will include a lunch,. Alan Lyon has already offered to organise this, so get practising with reading Tulip maps.

A trip to Coventry Motor Museum.

The Silverstone Classic if it does not clash with the IWE this next year.

A run to the  Cotswold Motor Museum, Bourton on the Water.

The IWE at Malvern.

The Le Mans Classic July 9- 11th

The Kimbolton Show.

 The Little Gransden show.

There are a number of other TR events throughout the country from the Lakes weekend to tour of the Highlands and Islelands, if anyone wishes to join in these or any other weekends we may organise a group entry.   Details on all events and these trips later.

Hope to see you at either Barnack or Whistow.
Please don't forget the AGM and Dinner on Dec 4th
Safe TRing.
Peter.

October Update

Greetings All,
Those going to The Millstone on October 7th for a meal should arrive about 19-00hrs. If you don't want to eat just come along for a natter. You can still book.
I am pleased to say that both cars that fought it out at a T junction going to Malvern have been returned to their owners. I picked mine up on Sept 16th from Clive Manvers and I must say what an excellent job he has done on the car, Andy’s was picked up on Monday 21st from TRGB, but I haven't had time to look at it yet. But I believe its OK.

The Launde Abbey run took place on Sunday September 27th in glorious sun shine. The route took us first to Kirby Hall and then onto Launde Abbey, for tea and cakes. About 18 cars took part. The appeal for the restoration has now reached £835,000 and work is going ahead.

Christmas is only a couple of months away. The dinner and AGM takes place on December 4th 19-30 for 20-00hrs, at the Three Horseshoes Wistow. The menu is below. August Update

Greetings all,
Well July has been a very busy month, what with the Ladies day run, Kimbolton show and The Inernational at Malvern besides our two regular meetings.

Ladies Day was a great success, thanks to Dot and the Ladies for putting it together. It’s nice to see other parts of the country. We had 9 cars taking part, and the weather was fine and sunny.

Our thanks to Trevor and Helen for leading us down to the IWE at Malvern and back, and to all those who joined in the run. It was nice to see so many cars taking part. We camped at our normal spot and were joined by Nigel and Anthea from Nene Valley and Andrew Smith, honorary “Camp Flower”. Congratulations go to James Challis on winning the Silver in the Concours with his NEW TR7. I must say after all the hard work he put in he it was nice to see him get a prize. It was nice to see Graham Wallis at the International on his new TR scooter lets hope he will soon be driving his TR again.

The Kimbolton show was a bit wet, but did not dampen enthusiasm. We had a good turn out of Camb Followers. Together with TRs from Nene Valley, Lea valley and Leicester in attendance there were just short of 40 TRs on display. This is the first time we have done this excellent show which has much to offer the whole family, all proceeds going to Children’s charities via the Sporting Bears motor club. Thanks Rob Isaacsons for inviting us and to Dave Burton for organising the Camb Followers. We will be there again next year for sure.

Talking about seeing the country, why not join Alan Lyon’s East Elloe run on Sunday 6th September, this is always a good day out taking in otherwise unexplored parts of the east Midlands country side. Give Alan a ring on 01406380698 for details.

Now I would like your comments on the continued meetings at The Millstone Barnack. Our last planned one is September. But with the new owners it has been such a success I would like to continue meeting there but only if it contuse to get your support. It does give the Northern members chance to meet once a month. Your comments please.

News & warning for those going to France. It looks as if the EU are up to their tricks, car users in France should note that French Petrol 95-E10 is now a mixture of Regular Unleaded fuel and Ethanol which is NOT suitable for older cars. Ethanol is highly corrosive and can ruin your metal fuel tank and fuel lines. This is in response to a directive from the EU to increase the levels of bio fuel in petrol. So look for and only put Euro 98 or Euro 95 in your car. It will probably cost more, but not as much as replacing the whole fuel system.

At the invitation of North London Group we will be once again attending the Little Gransden charity Air show. This is a very popular show and all the tickets for the formal TR enclosure have gone. But you can still bring apply to bring your car along and park with the other classics there. But do get there early as traffic is a problem. Let’s hope its a nice day for all attending.

Forthcoming Shows;
August 2nd BMC/BL Rally Peterborough.
August 15th Maxey Show.
August 16th Classic car show Duxford.
September 6th East Elloe Run (see above).
September 12-13 Bicker Country Show and Steam fair.

Hope to see you all at the next meeting at The Millstone on Wednesday August 5th.
Safe TRing Peter.

July Update

I have to say that the Red Rose Weekend was "GREAT" with over 50 cars taking part.  Vicki and I had a wonderful time driving through some of our favourite country side in the Forest of Bowland. The roads are quite narrow in places with lots of tight corners and steep hills. The sun shone all weekend with only the odd shower thrown in. In all we covered 580 miles on various roads. Red Rose intend to put another one on in 2011, if so we will be there and maybe you will join us.

Now I have been told that Dot's E Mail address is not correct, so from Buzz here is the correct one, dot_nelson@uko2.co.uk .  Note, underscore not – dash, and the o in uko2 is the letter “o” not the number “0” zero. My apologies to all those who had trouble contacting Dot.
If you haven't got the details of the Camb Fillies TR Picnic Day on
July 5th 2009 please contact Dot for the details.

A new member, James Challis arrived at Wistow last meeting with a very nice TR7. A TR7 but one that has only done 6000 miles from new. It was his Grandmothers and had been mothballed for almost 30 years. We hope to see more of the car and owner.

Those going to RAF Wittering need to be in the car park at the main entrance by 10-00hrs. The show starts at 11-00hrs.

July is TR International time again, for those going down on Friday afternoon, we leave the Thrapston Service Station at 14-00hrs for a convoy run down to Malvern. July 24-26th 2009.
A few more shows if you are interested.
Aug 2nd BMC/BL Rally at Ferry Meadows
Aug 15th Maxey Car Show
Sept 12-13 Bicker Country Show

Our next meeting is at the Millstone at Barnack on July 1st, hope to see you all there. And  a reminder the Leics Group will visit us at Wistow at our next meeting. Could be lots of cars around.
That all for now,
Safe TRing, see you on the open road.
Peter.

June 2009 Update

Greetings Camb Followers,
Well May pasted quickly, now for June. Thanks to Alan Lyon for the drive your classic run, it was great fun, and we had good weather as well. Thanks to all who turned up, I hope you enjoyed the event. It was nice to see all those cars out even if we went in different directions at some stages.  Vikki and I finished early as we had to drive to Holyhead for our holiday in Ireland.

While we were away the Bedford Show was on, and I believe it was cold and windy. Despite this I understand every one had a good time and as ever the auto jumble was worth a visit.

The big event of May was the wedding of Nina and Duncan, may we wish them all the best for years to come. The wedding took place at Stamford Register Office, and was attended by mostly TR friends both local and from afar. More that 20 TR’s were in attendance including 3 TR Dove’s and a selection of other classics  all of  which made the short journey to Burghley Park for the start of the wedding run to to Whitwell for the party. The weather was great and with a vast number of classics turning out was one of the best weddings we had been to in a long while. A great day was had by all. The run was great fun, again cars in all directions but we all made it in the finish for the party. I believe there where a few thick heads on Sunday, but even so some of us managed to get to Duxford for the Triumph Day the following morning as Duncan and Nina headed off for the Scottish Highlands.

Duxford was busy, there was an interesting selection of cars with some early Standard saloons a very nice Triumph Gloria Southern Cross plenty of 1800s and Stags a few Standard Vanguard's and TRs as far as the eye could see. It was nice to see the TR Register supporting this show.

We have some additional events planned;

July 5th 2009 is the Camb Fillies TR Picnic Day, thanks to Dot and the Ladies for putting this event together. If you want to attend, and I hope you will, please contact Dot by E Mail for the details. Her address is dot_nelson@uko2.co.uk.  This will also give us an idea of how many will be attending. Hope to see you all there.

I have spoken to Elgoods Brewery of Wisbech and if we can get 20 people together we can have an evening there, on either Wednesday July 15th or 29th. The cost would be £16-00 per person with a Buffet meal. This also covers entry to the Brewery and Gardens. It would mean getting to the brewery for 18-00hrs. If you would like to go PLEASE let me have your names ASAP

We also have an invite to RAF Wittering for Families open day on Friday 3rd July. Lot to see and do. Displays and  Flying weather permitting. You would need to be there by 10-30hrs as the show starts at 11-00hrs. The Bentley Owners club will be there as well.If you would like to go please let me have the following details ASAP.Names of people attending, Vehicle Reg, Make, Model and Colour. I need the details before June 22nd so security can be checked.

Another  invite this time to Deeping St James Country House for a Classic car evening on July 16th 2009. Again names please.

Rally for Launde Abbey. This event is to raise funds to save Launde Abbey near Oakham.  It takes place on Sunday August 16th from Peterborough Cathedral from 12-00 noon for a picnic, then at 14-00hrs set of for a run to Launde Abbey with a couple of stops on the way, then Tea at the Abbey at 16-30hrs. If you are interested in taking part details and an application form can be obtained from  rmand.chester@virgin.net. This could be a good day outInformation about Launde Abbey visit www.launde.org.uk

More shows if you are interested,
June 14th Bourne Classic Car Show
Aug 2nd BMC/BL Rally at Peterborough
Aug 15th Maxey Car Show.
Sept 12-13 Bicker Country Show.

Vicki and I are doing the Red Rose weekend at the end of June.

If you have any thing you want to put in the Update please send it to me.
That's the lot for now,Safe TRing see you on the open road.
Peter

May Update

Greetings Camb Followers,
Vicki and I will be in
Ireland at the start of the month so will miss the May Barnack meeting but we will raise a glass of Guiness to you on the Wednesday evening.
Our first meeting at The Millstone, Barnack (PE9 3ET) was a great success with some old faces and a couple of new ones attending so it bodes well for the May meeting sorry I will miss it.

For those going to The Bedford Show, please meet at the Shell Station on the Buckden roundabout for a 09-00 departure. Lee Valley will also be there on Sunday this year, so there should be lots of TRs present. Less so on Monday I fear.

Drive your Classic day on Sunday 26th April, was another great success and we have to thank Alan Lyon for making all the arrangements and planning the route. The weather was kind to us for a change. But where were all the other classics? A full report in the next TRaction.

The run to The
lincolnshire Aviation Centre was a bit damp but every one enjoyed it. The 4 Merlin engines sounded great. The Panton brothers have done an amazing job bringing this iconic aircraft back to life. We spoke briefly to Fred Panton and there is talk of getting her flying in the not too distant future. That would be incredible only the third Lancaster in the world in the air!

Mark July 15th in your diary for our Ladies Day. Details should be out next month when they tell us what they have in store.

Before we know it July will be use and the International at Malvern. This year its the 40th year of the TR6. Details of the run down will be published in July. Also on that weekend it’s the Morgans 100 years birthday, so Malvern could be busy.

It looks as if we shall be having a visit from the Leicester TR group on Monday 20th July at Wistow, so don’t forget to come and support the group.
Safe TRing.
Peter.

The 20-49 run on Boxing day provided lots of fine cars and a great day out, the weather was fine and the company great. It was only a short run of 32.2 miles on narrow Lincolnshire roads and some villages I have never heard of.  A good day was had by all.

November '08 update:

Greetings All,
October was a busy month for two of our members, Gary Scott and Bob Pearce. They took part in the Club Triumph Round Britain Reliabilty Run, and both finished.

This event covers 2000 miles in 48 hours. Bob Pearce has taken part in the event 8 times and this time in his Triumph Toledo, all 1300ccs of it. Apart from fuel problems and loss of power he finished about an hour late, but not last. He says the car hasn’t run since, (must be fatigue) or as he suspects some valve seat recession due to the cylinder head not been off since the car was built in 1973.  Well done Bob.

Gary Scott took his TR4A Dove with his son Wayne as co driver. He started at 7pm from Enfield to Blyth then onto Edinburgh airport, being first to arrive. Having dropped a TR6 on the A68, ( he had no chance). Monsoon rain and wind hit them on the run through Wales and Somerset. They took and early shower because of the seal on the windscreen not fitting correctly. Again fuel pump issues and spark plug problems slowed them down some what. Sunday saw them at Pimperne the penultimate stop, for tea and cakes, then onto Enfield to finish. Heavy traffic and accidents were the order of the day, but they arrived at 8-30pm to check in and receive there plaques, arriving home at midnight to crash out. Total miles 2254, average MPG 24. Well done to Gary, Wayne and Bob, and all those who took part.

We still have some seats left for the Christmas dinner, if you haven’t got a menu please let me know. Its on December 5th at the Three Horseshoes Wistow.
It was nice to see lots of Ladies at the last monthly meeting. I must try and get Vicki to the next one. Numbers are growing so thanks to all those who came and made it a great evening.

I had a busy day at the Restoration show, I was quite suprised the number of people rebuilding TR2s and 3s.Talking to one gent, he has just got his back on the road after 37 years. There is hope for me yet.

For those who went to Le Mans this year, you will be glad to know that Daniel has passed his driving test.

Something for you to think about, we had 6 months of visiting pubs in the Camb Followers area but as the Millstone at Barnack has reopened again I wonder if we should use the place for the months April to September, as this would bring our Lincolnshire members back in the fold. Please let me have your thoughts on this matter.
Dont forget the TR Register AGM at Gaydon on Sunday 23rd November 2008 at 11-00 hrs.

Thats it for now,
Safe TRing.
Peter.
