TR Action 255

Well, here’s hoping you had a good Christmas; may I wish all fellow Followers a Happy New Year.

Our meetings have been extremely well attended and we were pleased to welcome at our Barnack meeting on 2nd November Gerry Bingham from Ryhall with his TR6. Also Gill and Steve Bartlett from Spalding with their newly acquired “magenta” TR6. On the 21st we welcomed Izzy and Ian Ward from Upwood with their recently acquired TR6 and John and Janice Willis from Murrow with their Triumph 13/60.That gives us five new members and cars in six weeks. We hope to see them out and about on our planned events for next year.

With winter now upon us we have time to catch up with the jobs on our beloved cars. Alan Lyon is nearing completion on his superb TR6 rebuild. Duncan is getting “respoked”. Peter Taylor is delving into the fun of retrimming seats on his TR7. Alan Burwood is carrying out some floor panel repairs on his TR6. I am upgrading the rear trailing arm bushes on my TR6 and Rod Sortwell is sorting out the cooling system on his TR4A.

Quite a number of Camb followers supported TRGB’s open day in October and enjoyed Garry’s hogroast, nibbles and coffee. There were some very nice cars for sale. The raffle for a 12000 mile service and MOT was won by our Graham Warren. A group of us enjoyed a day at the Classic Car show at the NEC and met up for lunch and a chat.

By the time you read this we will have enjoyed our Christmas dinner at the Three Horseshoes at Wistow (which was fully booked again) and AGM, details of which will be in the next TR Action. The committee have all offered to stand again if agreed, i.e. Peter Parkinson as GL, Trevor Sherwood as Treasurer and Dave Burton (myself) as Secretary and Scribe. For the events committee, Alan Lyon, John and Val Burningham would join us again.

Following Trevor’s write up in social scene No 254 about his French trip, attached is a photo of Nic Waller’s Dove crossing the Pont de Normandie which connects Le Havre and Honfleur. When it was completed in 1995, it was the worlds longest cable stayed bridge (now third longest). The two pylons are 705 feet tall.

Peter sends us monthly updates of Camb Followers events, you can email him at gmparky@googlemail.com to request your updates, or ring Peter on 01778 343625. Also, our website is:  http://www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/camb-followers/. See you at The Three Horseshoes at Wistow PE28 2QQ on the third Monday of each month and The Millstone at Barnack PE9 3ET on the first Wednesday of each month.

TR Action 254

Hi fellow Followers. We were pleased to welcome Graham Warren at our Barnack meeting on 5th October with his newly purchased TR6. As it has been a quiet month I thought I might turn from “scribe” to Editor this month (apologies SR) and ask Kate Taylor to help with a ladies “take” on the Goodwood Revival, and Trevor for a report on their French trip. I thank them both.

So from Kate:

“Oh no! Not another car show – three days – no way! So off he went to Goodwood and I went for a girly weekend with my daughter. On his return we admired the many photographs; not all of them were of cars! Intrigued I agreed to go the following year, and so started our annual pilgrimage to the Goodwood Revival. My point of view is that it is a giant festival of vintage fashion. Everyone, and I mean everyone, dresses up. This is more than raiding the dressing up box; it is dressing up on a grand scale. Some wear fashionable attire from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, complete with hats, gloves, bags and shoes. Others chose mechanics overalls, wartime austerity or any one of a number of different armed forces uniforms. Everyone looks the part. What has this got to do with TRs? Well when we were in Harrogate for the IWE I had a lovely time shopping in the vintage clothes shops in the town. A hat, bag, and shoes found their way into the TR boot along with the obligatory TR bits. We had a wonderful Goodwood weekend, parading in our finery, shopping and meeting friends. Oh yes, not forgetting there was a good selection of TRs amongst the myriad of .amazing classic cars. I even watched some racing! Roll on next year, there will be another new outfit, if I can fit it in the boot of the car.”

From Trevor:

“Willie and I have had a long term collaboration over many years restoring three Belgrove TRs.We had planned a holiday on completion of all three, hence a week’s holiday in Normandy in September with our partners, and our fellow TR drinking partner Nick, and his wife Sharon, Nick taking his trusty GTR4 Dove. All four cars initially rendezvoused at Willie and Sue’s lovely abode in Sussex for the night, before the Newhaven ferry. Next day we set off on a lovely morning, not knowing that it was going to remain fabulous record breaking weather all the week, with hoods remaining permanently in the boots. We had hired the Chateau de Bremesnil which provided sumptuous living, with all meals consumed outside on the terrace. Nick was master of the barbecue and roaring log fires in the evenings, whilst Sharon produced gastronomic evening meals. New car boot bags were used, leaving room for the wine bottles elsewhere. Total mileage was 1000 miles. A great trip, made by the cars, the weather, and the company.”

Report on the “Bowling Night” next month.

TR Action 253

Hi fellow followers. A lot has already been written about the very successful and most enjoyable IWE at Harrogate at which our Tim Hurry was pleased to receive a Silver in his class in the Pride of Ownership section and the “Car of the Show – Upjay award” .The event was well supported by Camb Followers members and a group of us wore Magenta shirts in support. I feel the best way for me to report on the event is to share Tim’s ode to ALL his supporters:

“On Friday of the week just passed
The IWE was here at last
So with bags all packed and some trepidation.
We all met up at a service station
Just near Stamford at an American diner
With breakfast enjoyed things could’nt be finer
The delights of Harrogate ready to delve
We headed north at half past twelve
After a drive of a hundred miles
With sunny skies and plenty of smiles
And lots of green fields all around
We eventually arrived at Gods own showground
At the Kestrel Inn we ate and slept
Towards polishing time the big clock crept
We hurried over with things to do
Finding the Magenta 6 in hall two
Four hours later well and truly buffed
With the resulting shine we were all chuffed
When the judges sheets were ticked and crossed
The six’s fate had been embossed
Waiting patiently till the next afternoon
Wishing three thirty would come soon
Eventually the dreaded time had come
To see how the Magenta six had done
Better than expected silver to receive
But more to come I couldn’t conceive
For would you know the car of the show
Was covered in a Magenta glow
Now to the point of my little note
Thankyou all for casting your vote
The message to all I want to send
Much gratitude is owed to all my friends”.

Tims TR6 was also the “runner up” in the 1970s class a the Bourne Classic Car Show on 13th August .Well done Tim.

On 20th August, our illustrious Group Leader arranged a meet at the Millstone to celebrate 35 years of the Camb Followers. 33 members with some seventeen cars attended and Alan Lyon was presented with a bottle of wine for winning the quiz.

On 21st August we were joined by members of the Wensum group at the Hunstanton Kite Festival and classic car show and I am pleased to report that, under the banner of “The TR Register”, we won the “Best Club Stand” award.

Future events – NOTE; We intend to move the meet on 17th October to Pidley Golf Club for a Meal (if Required) and Ten Pin bowling – see Peter?s e-mail  for details. TRGB’s Autojumble on 29th October is a popular meet, if only to eat some of Gary’s pig roast.
See you at Wistow and Barnack.
