Purchased in 1990 after it had just been brought back from California. Condition ; rust free body but mechanics very worn it was used as show car . All the body parts are original except for left hand floor which was replaced because a hydraulic jack went through itin the US!

Restoration started Christmas 1990 with the body off, and the chassis stripped bare. Christmas 1991 and the car was back together and driven up and down the road, but only just. Mid 1992 the car was at last finished with everything working the way it should.

To make the car more suitable for long distance driving the following mods where carried out:

  • Electric fan
  • Electronic ignition
  • Uprated water pump
  • Revington drive shafts
  • Solid steering mounts
  • 5.5" wheels with Yokohama 185/70 tyres
  • Rear wheel camber corrected
  • Rear anti-roll bar
  • Gasflowed cylinder head
  • Gasflowed TR6PI manifold with single pipe exhaust
  • Gas shocks all round
  • In 2003 a rebuilt 2500S engine built by Jamie Frost with roller rockers, compression ration of 10.5:1 and, as Alf says, more than enough horsepower.

The car is used for events in the UK plus 3-4 foreign trips per year ,first was in 1992 to the Euromeeting in Belgium. One trip was to a classic car event at Lake Geneva leaving Thursday afternoon and back Sunday lunch time and it rained most of the way there and back .

So far Alf has only had one breakdown, that was last year in southern Switzerland in temperatures of over 30 degrees when the wiring to the electric fan melted .

Alf is pictured here with the trophy he won in 2003 at a Birmingham Group event for the best TR4/4a/5.
