Further to Ian’s report in the current Group Newsletter on our visit to the Donnington Collection, we were informed that there is no truth in the rumour that cars are being sold off to raise the finance needed to restore the circuit environment to its state before Bernie’s ill advised and aborted attempt to relocate the British Grand Prix away from Silverstone. In fact, cars are moved around for exhibition in other collections! One of these, the Bugatti Royale replica commissioned by Tom Wheatcroft and built to factory specifications and drawings because he couldn’t purchase one of the five originals, is currently on display in Holland! The good news is that Kevin Wheatcroft hopes to have the circuit open in August – maybe we’ll arrange another visit!!
On the subject of replicas I am still having difficulty accepting that the Mercedes racer was built in Argentina four years ago. See if you can find any clues in the photos!!!
