STOP PRESS:- At the TR Register AGM held at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon on Sunday the 28th November, CVTR were awarded the Wheelspinner Trophy for the Local Group who has contributed most to the TR Register and its members, local and national, over the past year. This was in recognition for the brilliant efforts at Prescott and Malvern, (but not just in 2010), and for the work with the Acorns Children’s Hospice. This was not the only award for one of our members, Andy Canning also won one of the newly created “Clubman’s Awards” for his “comeback” performance at the disco for the 40th anniversary of the TR Register, not to mention 40 guitars……… Here we see Andy Canning holding both the Group Trophy, and his own award, flanked by your editorial team, with Richard Durrant behind the lens!

Well winter is almost over (although Ian Brown didn't so think when he drove to Stoneleigh on a frosty winters morning with the hood down), so its about time the dust sheets came off the cars -- (except Alf of course who drives his car in all seasons) and the Auto Glym came out .The events calendar is filling up, so fill the tanks and start those engines. There were 35 members at our March meeting at the Fleece, and although the weather is picking up, my backside was still frozen when I got home - the heaters in the barn warm the flesh but not the body! Anyway, Andy introduced two new members, Phil and Sandy Blake, who have a TR5 and live near Warwick, and then ran through the stuff we have been doing since the last meeting, before moving on to the imminant activities. Sunday 7th March -- the Stoneleigh Show - well it was very, very cold, even colder in the cow sheds than the sunny day it turned out to be outside the exhibition "halls"! At least the cold kept the aroma of the normal occupants at bay! The TR Register were supporting this event and using it to invite all the recently joined members from the Midlands Coordinator (Paul "Cat" Tunnadine) groups, which naturally included a few from Cotswold Vale, unfortunately only a couple of new members from our sister groups made it to the show, but everyone present was treated to a slice of the TR Register 40th anniversary cake. There were plenty of traders present, and I'm sure pockets and bags were filled with those much sought after bargains. Two members walked away with "Pride of Ownership Awards", John Aitken and Nigel Cluley, and to cap off a very good day, the TR Register was awarded a prize for the best stand (well it was third prize actually, but still worth having!) Sunday 21st March and our delayed Sunday lunch at The Moat House at Alcester. 18 CVTR members came along - so we had 8 cars. Lunch was very good and very busy. Well worth using again as one of our venues. It was great to welcome our two newest members, Phil and Sandy Blake, with their TR5, who managed to track us down over the internet, it just shows how important and valuable our website has become! Saturday/Sunday 20/21st March, The TR Register Winter Ball - another brilliant event well supported by CVTR members, all of whom made the trip to Wales in their TRs! Unfortunately Colin and Les had received one of those family illness phone calls that scuppered their plans for the weekend. They ended up playing their Florence Nightingale roles for their elderly mum who had suffered an severe bout of labyrinthititis (not very pleasant!) Monday 22nd March. Andy Canning, Ian Brown and Andrew Racey visited the Acorns Trust in Worcester to discuss how we can help them . Andy and Ian explained at the meeting what progress was made and the suggestions that we came up with. There is a high level of enthusiasm from Acorns for our involvement, however due to a number of factors, not least of which is the degree of illness experienced by the children, it was thought we could potentialy help with supporting siblings and fathers who otherwise may feel left out in the whole "care" process. More information is awaited. Wednesday 24th March and the monthly meeting at The Fleece. A few dates to note in the diary: April 6th - IWE working party meeting at Malvern April 11th - CVTR monthly lunch at the Green Dragon, Sambourne. This event is being organised by Dave Gillespie, so please respond to him direcly if you want to come along - he does need confirmed numbers April 25th - Chernobyl children fundraising day at Hody's Place, Wickhamford. We supported this worthy cause last year and it proved to be a very succesful outing for the cars and owners. If you can make it, please come along. If you fancy giving rides in your car, please let Dave McHattie know, and send him a picture of your car so he can advertise the offer. April 28th - CVTR monthly meeting May 23rd - Standard Triumph Marque Day at Prescot Hill - Phil Collins provided an update. The TR Register will be a major part of the event and CVTR will be assisting in marshalling, last years volunteers forming the pool of people to draw from for 2010, Merv is drawing up a rota, Meg Durrant and Les Boother are providing the admin support for the registration and sign on process. August, I know its a way off, but the planned boat trip from Gloucester will require your deposits paid in May. Please contact Terry Smith if you want to experience the four hour cruise with meal provided. AOB included the subject of what to do with the club funds, and it was decided that we would investigate the practicalities of a pc projector for use at our regular meetings, with an alternative option suggested for a monitor for outdoor shows. The oucome of the discussions led to the offer of financial support from the TR Register if we wanted to purchase this type of equipment, the funding coming from the unclaimed portion of our 2009 grant, and the whole of the 2010 monies, which would provide 80% of the monies needed, leaving CVTR club funds to finance the other expenditures incurred during the year. Watch this space for developments. The meeting concluded with our customary raffle, unfortunately nothing as exotic as a Del Boy seduction kit this time, mostly bottles of wine on offer, (but maybe in some circles this would be the equivalent?) Someone did, however, produce an IWE T shirt of some vintage (ie not current) for the raffle, and it wasnt Richard Durrant! That's your lot for now, keep the information and photos coming in and we will keep the website as fresh and up to date as possible. Andrew Racey and Ian Brown
February 7th -- First Sunday lunch of the year -- a week earlier than normal as the 2nd Sunday in the month is Valentine's Day and we know lots of our members were sorting out surprise lunches etc for their better halves !!! Anyway 11 members enjoyed a good meal at one of our favourite establishments -- The Hunters Inn at Longdon, we even had the Citroën Owners club there to keep the classic car theme going. February 24th. CVTR Wednesday meeting at The Fleece. Unfortunately neither Ian or I could attend but with the help of our group leader and one or two others you wont see the join in this report! Meeting was well attended with 25 members on a cold winters night. Andy thanked Dave Lees for organising The Hunters Inn lunch. Andy outlined various dates that are now in the first half year calendar which includes: March 21st. Sunday lunch at The Moat House at Alcester, contact andrew@aracey.orangehome.co.uk or phone 01386 765523. Need to have ordered food by 12.30pm. So ideally arrive around 12.00 noon to 12.15pm please. April 11th. Dave Gillispie will organise the Sunday lunch at The Green Dragon, Sambourne, near Astwood Bank -- this will be a new venue for us! April 25th will be a re-run of last years event at Hody's Place in Wickhamford in aid of the Chernobyl children. This was a super event last year -- please try and come along. August 8th. Terry Smith has confirmed The Gloucester Docks trip and a deposit will be required nearer the time. Entertainment was provided by Phil Barnett and Phil Daniels, who gave a demonstration of their new venture, CP Fasteners, which involves TR bolts and fixings packaged for convenience, and they also promoted a bonnet safety catch. Several members took advantage of the offers, including Colin Boother who stocked his spares reserves up (although he never uses a spanner himself - he has a man in for that stuff, look out Alf or Keith, more work in the offing!) Finally Keith's raffle included a battery operated vacuum cleaner, donated by the car booter extraordinaire, Richard Durrant, but even he was outdone this month by an anonymous donation (no one would own up to buying it) of - a "Del's Romantic Evening Kit" which included a medallion with "D" inscribed on it, a bottle of "Del's Ladykiller Cologne", and a manual of "Top Tips For Seduction" -- guess who won????? Dave ( Del boy ) Gillespie of course. Let us know how you got on at the next meeting Dave! See you all next month, normal service will be resumed! Andrew Racey and Ian Brown

Hi everyone, and a warm welcome (OK we know its been cold and freezing etc, but we have to think warm) to 2010. This is our first news letter of the year and obviously not a lot has been going on, however we will attempt to fill the page. We must start with finishing off 2009 and our Christmas lunch at The Fleece where 28 of us enjoyed a very good lunch. The staff worked really hard for us and made us feel warm and cosy in the barn, complete with fairy lights (for the observant amongst you, they are there all year round!) and festive decorations etc. January 10th and Hop Croft Halt beckoned. The snow and ice was really bad so very few CVTR members ventured out, however --- Mike Hill and Alf Widmer both took their TR'S ( See the opening page on this web site for a shot of Mike's in the snow). Also there from CVTR were Colin, Martin and Terry. Well done guys on fighting your way through the snow. January 20th - Our first committee meeting of the year at Flacons Bar -- the committee is made up "any volunteer" CVTR members who want to come along and help sort out what we plan to do in 2010, so hopefully we will end up with another exciting calendar of things to do and places to go. January 23rd - CVTR's annual dinner this time hosted by The Kings Court Hotel at Alcester. 54 members and friends attended. A great night, superb service and food, enjoyed by all. So it looks like we will be using it again in 2011....... Thanks to all who attended. January 27th -- and our first CVTR meeting of the year. A cold winters night, yet 30 members attended the meeting -- well done! Andy issued a draft programme for the year with some headlines on events which were on as far as we were concerned. There then followed a debate on other suggestions from the committee meeting mainly from Ian and Richard. Some highlights which members want us to peruse are, Prodrive Visit at Banbury, Aston Martin visit at Gaydon, Large Model Association displays -- (maybe in September when they are more local), Gloucester Docks trip with lunch to Tewkesbury. Also our ladies would like a visit to a Country House or Gardens. So a number of items to go for. We have finalised dates for the first few Sunday lunches of the year.
We briefly discussed the New Years dinner, and as a result will be making a provisional booking for 22nd January 2011. So get the cars started and road worthy, and be prepared for a busy 2010. Andy will be issuing the events 2010 calendar in the next few days. Andrew Racey and Ian Brown
November 8th Sunday lunch at The Oak at Upton Snodsbury, kindly organised by Meg and Richard Durrant. Wow! 35 guests for Sunday lunch this must be a record,we even had six cars and the weather was really bad. Excellent meal and a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday . November 13-15th Classic car show at the NEC. Plenty to see and do at the show, including inspection of Andy Cannings TR3A chassis, alongside an original TR3 works race car at one end of the line up, and the newly acquired Cocal Cola TR7 at the other on the TR Register stand. Lots of CVTR members visiting over the three days as well as helping to man the stand and interact with the thousands of visitors to the show, and the now traditional coffee and tea facility was well used. On Sunday, Andy baked his usual batch of rock cakes (which Ian had sampled earlier in the day straight from the oven - and they were delicious!) for the many Register volunteers on the stand, and any other fortunate members who happened to be passing at the time. However the crowds were almost denied this treat by the "jobsworth attitudes" of the parking attendants at the NEC, until Andy revealed he had given the afforesaid official one of his rock cakes - (I wonder whether it was between the eyes or not?) November 22nd The TR Registers AGM at Gaydon. 10 CVTR members present and whilst we did not win any awards we were congratulated by The Chairman, as a group whose commitment at Prescott in 2008, and in running the bring and buy stall at the IWE for the last two years achieving record revenues, was second to none -- indeed a group who others could well take a lead from. So well done to all of our members who contributed! The Register is still losing members, however at a much reduced rate from last year. There is a lot of focus in the office on trying to attract and keep new members, hence the new member day at Didcot, second year renewal initiative for the IWE etc. One of the key areas identified as potential is the TR6 and TR7 owners, where data shows there is a lot of scope to recruit with less than 50% of the total TR6 and TR7 owners recorded as TR Register members. (As a local group our role must continue to be that of welcoming new members to our meetings, involving them in our activities, and helping them get the most enjoyment out of their TR, whatever the model.) Finally it was also mentioned that the IWE will not be at Malvern in 2011. A new venue is being sought and will be announced early next year. We may return to Malvern in 2012. So onto our own AGM held on Wednesday 25th November the at The Fleece. The minutes, along with the Group leaders and Treasurers reports will be published at a later date, in the Newsletter section, however it is important that everyone knows that Andy and Keith were re-elected as Group Leader and Treasurer with both posts unopposed. Future events. December 13th Christmas lunch at The Fleece. It will all concerned if you can pre-order--see Andy's note on this . January 23rd CVTR --annual dinner at The Kings Court Hotel near Alcester. If you haven't booked and want to come please let Andrew Racey have details, and your money. November Raffle:- becoming even more depressively boring, with some half decent fare on offer. Meg and Richard continue to dispose of their car boot stock via donations to the raffle cause, and I'm sure Richard was glad to see the back of "Megs Nagging" (which just happened to be the name of the bottle of beer donated, by some strange coincidence). A box of chocolates was also kidly donated, augmenting the alcohol prizes Keith had bought particularly for this occasion. Thankfully we didnt win any............ Richard did win a raffle prize, but decided against reclaiming "Megs Nagging", just in case! On a serious note, and recognising the stoic and sterling job Keith does in the face of antipathy and moaning, this continues to be the main (not quite only) source of revenue for the CVTR, and we would urge that everyone supports it as much as possible. Misquoting Baron de Coubertain of Olympic fame, "Its not the winning thats important, its taking part that counts". Never a truer word.......... STOP PRESS. At the meeting it was agreed that anyone with suggestions for the CVTR 2010 agenda would meet at Flacons Bar (Northwick Hotel, Waterside, Evesham) on January 19th, to map out a schedule, however there is a possibility that date may also be the date for the next IWE working party meeting at Malvern, so watch out for any revisions........... Finally, Happy Christmas to all our readers. Hopefully Santa will bring you what you desire - if he keeps his eyes open!!!
A busy month for some as the open top car season draws to a close (at least for the less hardy amongst us) October 11th -- Malvern Show, and the TR Register put a stand in the one of the main halls. A good turnout for the show. We had 7 cars on the stand with CVTR being represented by Andrew's Dove, Ian's 3A, Richard's 4A, and Colin's 4A. Although it was a bit of a miserable day weather wise the show had appeared to have a good attendance. We were joined by Ian Cornish and 4VC along with Colin Hornby and his TR7. Richard Durrant ended up cleaning his car and putting it on the end of the line up, and at the same time rearranged his family committments to stay longer at the show (well done Meg on being so supportive!).Ian and Andrew had transported the display equipment to Malvern in their respective cars, with Ian strapping the lectern to his boot rack. Unfortunately this had an aerofoil effect making speeds over 40mph pretty "exciting". "Its not easy holding down several square yards of wing when driving" as Ian was heard to say. Many thanks to Richard Durrant for arranging safer return transport for the kit after the show.Andrew Racey also found a replacement for the Age Concern bus he volunteers to drive each week. October 18th -- Sunday lunch--organised by our group leader at the Swan at Hanley Swan with 29 people turning for a very good carvery with 8 TR's including 4 guests from Birmingham group. A very relaxing lunch enjoyed by all in attendance. Unfortunately it appeared someone left without paying or the pub got their figures wrong -- we think (hope) it was the latter. October 25th -- Stoneleigh Restoration Show, and Cat and team took out a TR6 standard gearbox to replace it with an overdrive unit AT THE SHOW. Now that is what I call confidence, partcicularly when the spanners were only finally unveiled at 11 o'clock, after much assesment of the best way to do the job. Whilst all eventualities were considered, the sound of rasping file on metal was protracted and energetic whilst modifying brackets and chassis to get things to fit and line up. It was only when Cat and his conspirator admitted to bad backs that unwary volunteers were dragged in to lift the new gearbox into position, a cunning way to ensure more people were involved! Ian Brown now has a bad back..........caused by kneeling on an empty tin of Boddingtons cocealed under a dustsheet and only discovered when lifting and aligning the gearbox from the passenger footwell.Overall a very busy show and well attended. Postscript, the gearbox was finally finished at 5.30pm and successfully tested over the following days! This all brings us to CVTR meeting of 27th October. Andy opened the evening by welcoming Bill and Steph Piggott. 33 members and 7 TR's were present. Andy gave a brief feed back on the minutes of the review meeting of the IWE. A small surplus was made and a debate on a Saturday only ticket concluded that we should look closely how to do this for the 40th anniversary next year. On to the diary then. 8th November is the Sunday lunch at The Oak in Upton Snodsbury--Richard and Meg are running this event --please contact them for details. November 13-15th is the classic car show at the NEC. November 22nd is the TR Registers AGM at Gaydon. November 25th is the CVTR AGM at The Fleece. Other business covered mainly focused on The CVTR Annual Dinner which will be held on 23rd January at The Kings Court Hotel at Alcester. Details of menus, costs and accommodation were handed out at the meeting, however Andy will forward those to all members in a circular by e-mail. Closing date is 9th January, It would be appreciated if you can start booking ASAP please. Finally Bill Piggott thanked CVTR on behalf of Friends of TS2 for the the huge sum of money raised at the bring and buy stall at the IWE -- £1088.00p which will go towards the continued maintenance of TS2 and the creation of the correct wheel spats which would complete the authenticity of the car. He also confirmed that TS2 would be in the same hall as the stall next year to show members what their money at the bring and buy is going towards. The meeting concluded with the usual raffle, and this month our treasurer played safe, with prizes including wine and a classic car book, supplemented by a wall clock donated by Andrew Racey - whatever happened to the unusual prizes, frighteningly, it's all getting very normal, bring back the rubbish please (I will have more to write about)! So that's it for another meeting -- don't forget to book your Annual Dinner folks Andrew Racey and Ian Brown
What a busy month, lots of things going and lots of TR's out and about. July 4th The Drakes Broughton annual fund raiser for the local church. Richard and Meg hosted us on the sports field and particular thanks to Meg for the coffee and cakes. Richard was rather pre-occupied changing his starter motor which packed in on arrival. Keith Brown saw this a an opportunity to provide a "seminar", giving a one to one lesson on the right way to do it and by the end of the day Richard was mobile again. Fifteen cars from CVTR made for a good turnout with the icing on the cake being Andrew's Dove getting first prize for best car on display ( about 60 cars in total) and Bob Heppel getting second prize. The weather was good and Colin did not let the side down as he helped to swell the pockets of the tea and cake stall. The follow up to the "seminar" display on changing a starter motor was provided at the meeting, when Richard disclosed that a "missing" item, lost in all the exitement, namely an A/F nut, had now been found, but unfortunately it now resides in his gearbox bellhousing!
July 5th Ten cars were in a convoy at 10.00am on their way to the Coventry Motor museum. A great route through the countryside, no one lost or delayed, and everyone obeyed the rules of convoying by looking after the car behind them. I'm not sure what happened with the group of cyclists that Keith Brown encountered along the way, but clean underpants were mentioned, although I'm not sure if it was his or theirs! We parked in Millennium square and attracted lots of attention from members of the public. We were very fortunate in having TS2 on both days which was a real bonus for CVTR. Many thanks to our group leader - Andy for putting himself out by going to get and return the car for all to see. The ladies who went shopping enjoyed themselves along with those who visited the museum. Many thanks to Ian Brown for organising the trip. A good weekend for all, unfortunately Andrew's Dove decided to have a clutch issue on the way home which made for an interesting last few miles. July 11th Fladbury walkabout organised by Keith Brown.Six TR's and a Spitfire had pride of place at the Annual Fladbury walkabout. I think they were all impressed with the size and content of the gardens with wide sweeping lawns, large vegetable plots and even their own moorings complete with boat. (clearly we have been in the wrong job). Lunch in the local pub and a little bit of drizzle rather than a huge downpour made for a good day out. July 19th The Chipping Campden Classic car show proved as popular as ever with CVTR members with eighteen cars on display, including notable Register visitors/guests from as far afield as Devon, North London, and Solihull. Unusally and very appreciatively, we had not one, but two fantastic Dorettis in the line up. Mike and Jane Fleet from the North London group were astounded when being marshalled into the organised line up using the now infamous Andy Canning blue rope, being overheard to comment " North London group are happy for people to just turn up!" Our series of "show repair seminars" was extended courtesy of Anthony Bond, whose car tyre decided it was exhausted - and did so gradually over the first hour of the show - catalysing the CVTR team into action. No pushing or shoving from the MG owners this time, the offending wheel was duly changed after assembling the resources of those present. Thankfully this encompassed more than a swiss army knife and a pack of Kendal mint cake when an assortment of jacks, hammers, and flat boards was assembled, together with some muscle power to lift the car onto the jack in the first place. Anyway, with the car restored to normal running, the show continued. Thank you Anthony for the entertainment. In addition to the car display, there was a brilliant Doctor Who feature, with four full size Daleks, Cybermen, a police call box, and several characters in costume adding to the occasion. For those who didnt see them, you certainly missed out on the authentic entertainment they provided.
The weather left something to be desired, and whilst there was a great number and assortment of cars on display, the number of vistors was pretty thin on the ground. The gazebo earned its keep yet again, for our members and anyone wishing to escape the rain. Many thanks to everyone for attending and flying the CVTR flag. So onto CVTR Wednesday meeting at the Fleece. Andy welcomed Alan Stevens, a new member from Bishops Cleeve with a TR4. We had 37 people attend the meeting. Andy went through some of the programme for the IWE which is fast approaching. July 24-26th TR Register International Weekend. We are running the bring and buy event again this year. Alan Wilding has done a sterling job of setting up the programme of volunteers for the two days. So if you have "bits " of TR's in the back of the garage then bring them along, its all in a good cause for the upkeep of TS2. One high light of the weekend is expected to be a fly past of the Red Arrows in the afternoon, check out the TR Register website for more information. August 9th Trip to the Swindon Steam museum organised by Meg and Richard. Meet at the top of Fish Hill at 9.00am. This is also the same day as a new members welcome to Didcot event. Hopefully one /two of our new owners will make it there. Invitations have been sent out. August 16th Intergroup meeting at The Fleece. Noon onwards. August 22nd Evesham show. This is the re-run which was cancelled in June. We will start to set up around 10.00am, the show opens up around 11.30 onwards. August 23rd. Pat and Alf have kindly invited us to a Pudding club event at their house. 12.30 onwards. Bring your own booze, some drinks will be provided. Also bring a pudding to share, yes Colin share!! TRs appreciated but not essential. August 29th Great Comberton Flower show. A great village event which CVTR have attended for the last two/three years. August 31st Yes its the Pershore plum festival again. Last year we managed two cars and a van. Hopefully we will do better this time August 31st Also the date for the Bredon car show. Sept 5-6th The Lakes Weekend Sept 5th Also the Peopleton show Sept 13th The boat trip from Gloucester docks with a meal included . Sounds like a good event - If you can make it contact Terry Smith or Keith Brown who is taking the money. No report would be complete with the "raffle" feature, and this meeting was no exception! Our erstwhile treasurer turned up with an unusual selection or prestigious prizes, not least of which were a collection of old mugs donated by Richard Durrant, and two cucumbers (of all things), along with a more acceptable tin of chocolates and bottle of wine. Thankfully I didnt win the cucumbers - but the man with his own allotment - Andrew Racey, did! Just how does Keith pull off these amazing feats, I have no idea! So lots to do.places to go and people to see, enjoy your motoring. For pictures of the above events, check out the gallery section (after giving Tim some breathing space to post them, and Richard time to work out how his new fangled camera works for decent sized images rather than the 10mb stuff he managed to assemble at the Coventry Museum) Andrew Racey and Ian Brown
Its only March and already we appear to have been very busy as a group! March 4th and 11th Mike Parry hosted over twenty people to a visit round Morgan's car works in Malvern. What a visit. We were allowed to get up close and personal with every stage of manufacturing (except the paint shop). We saw the engines coming in from BMW for the new Aero 8 cars as well as the wood working shop where the ash is formed and worked prior to going into the cars to from the frame for the body etc to be bolted onto. Trim shop and final assembly after painting were also a sight to behold. We were pleased to see our club Chairman Chris Cunnington join our tour, the feedback of which was a very enjoyable afternoon by all concerned. Thanks Mike. Ian has made photographic diary of the visit ,click here to view. March 8th A number of CVTR members braved the wind and rain to make their way to Stoneleigh and the Triumph show. The Register had their usual stand which was well attended. March 15th 22 members attended the Thai restaurant in Evesham for Sunday lunch, many thanks to Tim Walker who organised the lunch. March 20th-22nd The registers winter ball at Llandrindod Wells. The weather was perfect and the convoy runs spectacular. A number of our group were there and report back that a good time was had by all. So this brings us to our final March activity which was the CVTR group meeting at the Fleece, with 37 members present and apologies from Ian Brown and Mike Parry. Andy Canning fed back some comments from the Group leaders meeting which he and Keith Brown went to. They were split into working groups to look at amongst other things, how to retain existing members, how to attract new ones. Look at why TR7 members are feeling left out of things etc. At present the club is loosing one member a day!! Update from the IWE working party, everything is progressing with a group booked for the Friday night and a disco for Saturday. CVTR group will be running the Bring and Buy sale again under the leadership of Alan Wilding and Colin Boother, so a bit nearer the time they will be looking for volunteers for two hour stints. On the same subject Bill Piggott has written to Andy thanking our group for the great job done last year and the fact that £823 was donated to TS2 maintenance account. This will help them carry out some of the work they want to do this year on the car. Onto the diary for the next few weeks. April 19th Sunday lunch is at the Hunters Inn the other side of Tewkesbury, Dave Lees will organise but as he doesn't have an e-mail address you should contact him at jenny.smith25@hotmail.com . This is a venue we have used a number of times and the landlord and his team look after us really well. April 22th CVTR Group meeting. April 25th The visit to Hook Norton Breweries, 11.00am onwards. If you wish to go there are about 4 places left-Contact Terry Smith. April 26th As reported in previous newsletters this is the Chernobyl Children's event at Wickhamford with Dave McHattie taking the lead. We hope to have as many cars on site as possible. It starts at 2.00pm, with Teas, Cakes, Books, Plants ,Raffle etc. It will be sign posted from the main road. May 1st-2nd The Welsh weekend. It appears that CVTR have taken over a hotel, Colin Boother is the man to talk to. May 9th-10th Prescott Hill climb organised by Cheltenham Rotary Club. May 10th Sunday lunch, organised by Pat and Alf Widmer at The Admiral Rodney Inn, Barrow Green, Martley May24th Standard Triumph Marque day @ Imperial War Museum at Duxford. May 27th CVTR Group meeting. June 6th Evesham Show, more on this next month. So if you cant find something of interest in at least one of the above events -we must be doing something wrong--let us know what you want to do--come along to the Fleece and attend one of our meetings. Andrew Racey and Ian Brown.
Thirty four members, wives/visitors turned out on a winters evening, (this is a record for a CVTR monthly meeting), so either we are doing something right, or the beer is especially good, or people are bored with the TV, whatever the reason it was great to see you all. Andy opened the meeting by welcoming David Ferry, on his first group visit, and he came in his fuel injected TR3A, a very different approach to developing modern reliability standards in a classic vehicle. Welcome David! Andy then pointed out that it was the annual Group Leaders meeting next weekend, so anyone wishing to raise anything for discussion, please call him in the next day or so. Our first Sunday lunch of the year in Wixford at The Three Horse Shoes proved to be very popular with 22 people enjoying a good lunch. CVTR Diary for the next few weeks:- March 4th Mike Parry is organising a trip round Morgan cars in Malvern . July 5th This was the date for the Blist Hill convoy run. However we have been to the site and they are still building part of the £12m project and we felt it would not be ready in time. When it is finished, we are certain you will all enjoy it. So July 4th 2010 is the date (how's that for forward planning), and at the same group rate as this year, plus a voucher to use for money off other attractions up in Telford. With the cancellation of this trip, and the availability of the 5th July, it has been suggested that we go to the Coventry Motor Museum instead. Plans are now in hand to set this up with a scenic drive and stop off on the way. Watch this space...they have a lovely Italia on display with plenty of iconic classics, along with Thrust and Thrust SSC, two land speed record holding cars. The plan would be to park/"display" cars outside the museum in Millennium Place, so anyone wishing to take part, please register your interest with Ian Brown. July 19th Confirmed as The Campden Vintage and Classic Car Show. If you want to register your car then contact Ian Brown who can send you a form via email, and once again, a copy of the form can be found via a link on the "future events" page. August 14th Is now confirmed as the inter-group get together at The Fleece, our monthly meeting venue. Anne and John won the first prize in the raffle, with our erstwhile treasurer producing a first class valeting kit as the prize, which truly amazed the members, until it was dislosed that Richard and Meg had donated the said prize! Normal standards or raffle prize were then resumed. How would we survive without these meeting highlights? So hopefully some of the above will wet your appetite and want you to start the car and get it on the road. Safe and enjoyable motoring .. at least more safely than this van load! Andrew Racey and Ian Brown.
The location, food, and service at Wood Norton were generally acknowledged as first class, setting the standards for next years event, a big thank you to Andrew R and Andy C for making sure the event went without a hitch! So onto 2009 and our first meeting of the year at The Fleece with 26 members in attendance. Andy welcomed Bob Heppel as his first visit to CVTR . Bob has recently purchased a TR3a in red. Hopefully some of you will be willing to give rides in your cars to the public ( for a fee which goes to the charity) If you can make then let Dave know-either at our meetings or on davemchattie@btconnect.com or 01789766055. Our Treasurer, Keith ran the raffle to his usual standards, and it must be continually recognised that his creativity with selecting the prizes continues to astound our members........................ Finally Keith Brown (the same treasurer) is looking to try and arrange a couple of Sunday lunches on the extremities of our patch to see if we can get some of those CVTR members who don't usually attend, and may live a bit out of our usual area, to come along. He is looking around Malvern and Chipping Norton areas and wants to know of any good pubs we might be able to use, suggestions welcomed. That's it for now, please see the image below to remind you of the "wheels of life", so get the TR out and enjoy it........while we can!!!! See you at the next CVTR meeting/event. Well the year is drawing to a close but we still have a lot of active members within CVTR, either meeting for the monthly lunch, attending the classic car show at the NEC and attending the TR Registers AGM at Gaydon or our own AGM at The Fleece.
November
9th - About 25 CVTR members and their guests attended the monthly lunch at The Childswickham Inn, organised by Terry Smith. It was another good turnout with one stalwart coming in his TR4. Well done Keith. Everyone enjoyed a super meal. We will return I am sure as we were made to feel very welcome.
14-16th - The classic car show at the NEC and two of our members cars are on display. Leslie Boother’s TR6 (well its Colin's car but Les drives it) AND Ian Brown’s soon to be refurbished (now that's an understatement if ever there was one) TR3, but not by him!!
23rd - The TR Registers AGM. There was a very good turnout of members with over 90 people making it with 12 from CVTR. Feedback from those there was it was a good meeting with the business of the day over by lunch time leaving the awards for the afternoon. The main highlight of the day appears to have been the fire alarm going off and everyone being evacuated, fortunately in wasn't raining. As a club we still have 6920 members, which given the current economic gloom is not a bad figure bit we are all charged with trying to sign up more members. The subscription is now £41.00 per year which given the fantastic magazine, technical support and advice plus of course the friends that you make is great value. No doubt there will be a report of the meeting in the 2009 magazine.
27th –Was the CVTR AGM at The Fleece, and another great turnout with 35 plus members. Andy went through the highlights of the year and thanked everyone for their support. Keith Brown continues to hold the purse strings and has agreed to continue to do so. We have about £1100.00 in our funds, so a healthy balance. Andy was also re-elected and deserves our thanks for taking on the role as full group leader following Colin’s resignation as joint group leader. Colin and Leslie were also thanked for all their hard work for CVTR, along with Richard Durrant who has taken on (more like involuntary nomination) the role of CVTR photographer.
Our host at the Fleece also paid a visit to discuss the menu and options for our pre-Christmas lunch (see details later) and to thank us for continuing to hold our meetings there and in support The Fleece.
There then followed a light supper for the membership kindly supplied by The Fleece. Thanks Nigel.
A brief session followed our AGM on forth coming events. So what is happening in the next three months?

24th - Sees our annual dinner at Wood Norton Hall on the A44 just outside Evesham. A super 3 course meal is on offer and you can stay overnight at a much reduced rate. If you have not yet booked then please contact Andrew Racey ASAP on 01386765523 or e-mail andrew@aracey.orangehome.co.uk. So far we have 42 members paid with about another 20 still to decide, so it promises to be good evening. Remember if you wish to stay overnight then book direct with the hotel.
28th - Its our first club night of the year.
So CVTR members, still lots to do and places to go, watch this space for a full for 2009.
Andrew Racey and Ian Brown
Sunday lunch was at the Wheelbarrow and Castle organised by Anthony Bond, eight members enjoyed a good lunch. The IWE - Working party met at Malvern to start the planning process for 2009. Andy was there along with Colin representing CVTR. Detailed feedback was provided to Andy from the office, have a chat if you want to find out more. So its watch this space for news on next years show. On October 19th the TSSC invited us along to Evesham Country Park where they had a gathering of cars, about 8 CVTR members turned up through the day to enjoy the surroundings and the weather. So onto the monthly meeting.Well supported with 32 members in attendance. Andy spent some time going through the calendar for the next few weeks. UPCOMING ACTIVITIES:- October 26th National Restoration Show, Stoneleigh November 9th Sunday lunch/drink to be organised by Terry Smith at the Childwickham Inn. If you want to know more then turn up and find out what its all about. 23rd TR Register AGM at Gaydon. December 7th Sunday lunch at the Fleece Finally onto our CVTR annual dinner on Saturday 24th January 2009. This year we have booked Wood Norton Hall just off the A44 outside Evesham. This really is a super location. The three course dinner will cost £24.95 and we have also negotiated a B and B rate of £65.00 per room. (note its a room rate not per person). We gave out a number of menus at the meeting and have e-mailed it to members not there. Clich here for the menu Menu.doc If you would like to go please let Andrew Racey know by phone 01386 765523 Andrew Racey and Ian Brown.
It seems strange, setting off to the monthly meeting in the dark, but that is what happened last Wednesday evening for our regular meet at the Fleece. If ever we needed a sign that the weather was changing, this was it, unfortunately not for an improvement in the wet weather we experienced this summer, but heralding the onset of autumn.
There were twenty eight of us gathered in the barn at the Fleece for the meeting, heaters on, and would you believe it – Christmas lighting brought into play to light the setting.
It was great to welcome back John Ratcliffe, and Pam, coming all the way from Cahors in France to drop in on us on their way to visit family members in the UK and overseas.
We may well have had a wet summer, but you would never have guessed it from the number of events we attended between us, and September continued in a similar vein weather wise, but much quieter on the event schedule.
First up was the Bredon car show on the 7th, which necessitated a quick change of venue away from the cricket field to the station car park. The picture below shows Pete Ratcliffe at the event, but I must admit you would be hard pressed to identify the venue, it looks more like a housing estate! Well done Peter, Richard, Meg, Terry and Jacqui for flying the CVTR flag!
The same weekend saw the legendary Lakes tour, and although the wet weather was yet again in evidence on the trip up, the event itself proved mostly dry and the attendees had, yet again, a great time.
12th – 14th saw the European TR meeting taking place in Ronneby Brunn, Sweden, once again Alf and Pat reported back on a successful and enjoyable overseas event.
19th – 21st - The Goodwood Revival came and went, and as usual received its accolades for period entertainment and racing.
The Sunday lunch in September was organised by Colin and Leslie Boother, not too far away from their home at The Plough and Harrow, Drakes Broughton. Fifteen members enjoyed the customary very good cuisine. No fun run as previously notified, because Colin needed more time on the puddings.
We had much discussion about the venue for our 2008 Christmas dinner (date scheduled for 17th January 2009), and the Beckford Inn was ruled out on the grounds that we would have to pay several hundred pounds for the hire of the room. Other alternatives were considered before agreement was reached to book Wood Norton Hotel, (previously the BBC training centre) located on the Worcester road out of Evesham. Costs were £29 per head, with the capacity to take 70 people. Book early to avoid disappointment…………………………..

26th November CVTR AGM and monthly meeting
That’s your lot for this month’s newsletter, make the most of the daylight this year, get your cars out on the road.
Well what a start to the four weeks since our last meeting. We had the long awaited Cosford RAF museum trip. A fantastic day, both weather wise and from an organisational point of view. Over 20 cars in convoy and we didn't loose one and no one broke down. Guest cars included a Stag and a Karman Ghia . It was truly a great day out. Well done to Richard Durrant who organised it all including guides to take us around and explain the museum collection.
The next event was the inter- group meeting at the Fleece on 3rd August. Approximately 20 cars attended this rather damp day, and despite CVTR efforts, somewhat disappointing was the lack of response/attendance from other groups. The Area Coordinator needs to establish if this is an event that other groups want to participate in future – and determine the publicity and participation levels, maybe hold it at a more “central” venue to suit other groups. Whatever the outcome, we need to decide how much effort we, as a group, need to expend if this is to be a regular event in our summer diary. Onto the 8th of the 8th of 08 and the River Avon beckoned in the form of the Sprit of Freedom on Avon. ( this was the boat that sank last year in the floods.)
(historic lock keepers cottage and Captain Dave in view)
A great night organised by Ian Brown--32 people enjoyed a buffet and drinks session whilst we slowly (3mph ) cruised the Avon on a warm summers evening. The weather was very kind to us given the past few weeks of rain.
(apologies to Mick for interrupting his cake)
Also a reminder that our own AGM is on 26th November The CVTR annual dinner is being held on January 17th 2009 at a venue still to be decided. Two/three have been suggested. If any member has what they think is a suitable venue to accommodate 60 to 80 people then please check it out yourself ,get an idea of costs to be discussed at the next meeting. Hope to see you all at one of the events coming up, meanwhile, keep those wheels turning. Andrew Racey and Ian Brown.
The summer evening brought out a record number of attendees and cars for a CVTR meeting of over 40 people and 10 cars. The Sunday lunch drink at The Three Horseshoes at Wixford was attended by 17 people. 18th July and approx 10 cars turned up on a dull evening at the Birlingham bi-annual car show. The feedback from those who went was that it was, as usual a very good show, but the queue at the barbecue was again very long. 19/20th July and the International weekend was upon us. At least this year the floods stayed away although there were one or two very heavy downpours. CVTR members were heavily involved in running the bring and buy stall over two days. We took a record £823.00 for TS2 funds. To say the General Manager and Chairman were delighted would be an understatement. As to be expected we were asked if we would consider running it again next year and following our meeting we can confirm that we would be "up for it". We believe we can improve some aspects of the organisation and at some stage the interested parties will get together to review how to proceed next year. Meanwhile CVTR were pleased to receive a thank you note from Allen Forster for our efforts. CVTR were very grateful to Tony Lennon (London Group) for his help over the weekend. So onto the diary for the next few weeks. 27th July and Richard Durrants long awaited trip to Cosford is set to go. Meet at the Omersley lay-by off the A449 at 8.30am. 3rd August and the Sunday lunch drink will be the inter group lunch at the Fleece from 12.00 noon onwards. A barbecue is being arranged -- please let Andy Canning know if you can make it. 8th August and we are on the Sprit of Freedom on Avon at Evesham at 6.00 pm for a trip along the Avon. £10.00 will get you on board for refreshments and an enjoyable evening. Please let Ian Brown know if you haven't done so already. 25th August - Pershore Plum festival. Take your car if you have time. 25th August is also the date of the Stoneley show with Coventry group. 7th September is the Bredon car show--more on this at the next meeting. This is the same weekend as the Lakes Tour. Finally if you have any comments on the TR International and how it can be improved or changed then please forward them to Andy Canning by close of play on Monday 28 th July. Andrew Racey and Ian Brown
Well we must start off with saying what a fabulous weekend we had with the Standard Triumph Marque Day. The weather was great which meant the Saturdays events at Toddington and then Sunday at Prescott were very well supported.CVTR members more than played their part on both days and did some stirling work on the gates and in the ticket lodge. The fact that the car parks were full along with the camp will mean hopefully that the three clubs will have made a profit, but more importantly everyone had a great time. Many thanks to Chris Cunnington who sent our Group Leader a letter of congratulations for all the work put into the event by CVTR members. Onto the bank holiday weekend and the usual bad weather. The event at the Fleece was supported by three/four TR's and I believe a good time was had by those who turned up in the wind and rain. So onto our monthly meeting at the Fleece where we had over 30 members in attendance including some guests from North Wales Group plus Moss their dog. Andy reported that the TR international working party met and the work is now well underway for the event in July, more on this later. The next few weeks events are as follows:
Onto July we have:
A reminder that the inter group meeting takes place at the Fleece on Sunday 3rd August. An advert will be in TR action next month. We also agreed to purchase a set of walkie talkies for the club to use--AR to action KB to pay!! ***Please note*** It was agreed at the end of the meeting that we will in future start our formal business of the day at 8.30 pm not 9.00pm as of the June meeting. So a very busy few weeks--get the polish out and start motoring.
Our meeting at Fleece on 26th March was well supported with 23 people in attendance. However only one TR and that was Colin Boother giving his new engine in his TR4A a blast. The Sunday lunch on April 13th is at the Hunters Inn at Longdon, a venue we used last year where we had a great lunch. Pat and Alf Widmer are organising it, so if you haven't booked in yet then give them a bell. The next big event CVTR are involved in is the Triumph weekend on 17/18th of May. The Saturdays events take place at Toddington, home of the steam railway, with trips on the train, a Cotswold convoy run and a barbecue in the evening. On the Sunday is the main event based at Prescott, this will include trade stands, auto jumble, hill climbs (which must be booked) and a cavalcade up the hill. Camping is also on site and so far the pre-booked numbers are looking very healthy. As far as CVTR are concerned we need lots of people to help with marshalling, taking money for hill climbs and checking in. Plus manning the TR register stand etc. There will be a briefing meeting on site at Prescott on the Saturday morning . We will agree times at the April meeting at the Fleece so if you cant make that then watch this space. This weekend is THE Triumph event of the year with the TR Register,Triumph Sports Six Club and Stag Owners Club all working together with our main sponsor Moss-Europe to ensure that all Triumph owners having a cracking two days. So please try and come along. June sees the Evesham car show ,The Churchill car show, as well as a show at Fladbury, so look at the calander on the web site or this newsletter for details nearer the time. July we have the Burlingham car show, a great evening at a small village cricket club, run every other year with lots of different classic, vintage and sports cars. July 27th is the Cosford Sunday run to the aircraft museum being organised by Richard Durrant,The entry is free but we will pay for guided tour which will cost each member a pound or two. So folks get the cars out,the polish on and start those engines for a full and varied programme over the next few months. Andrew Racey and Ian Brown
Our February meeting took place on the normal club night, and we were particularly pleased to welcome new members, Dave and Sally Roberts, and the recently elected Group leader from the Birmingham group, Dave Newbery. The Stoneleigh Triumph Show and Spares day went really well, plenty of CVTR members in attendance, all that was missing was Andy Canning and his infamous cakes for refreshment on the Register stand! The weather was tremendous, which contributed significantly to the bumper attendance at the show. Our Sunday "drink" at the Thai Emerald was ably organised by Tim Walker, and yet again those attending feasted on the best oriental cuisine for miles around, and at great value for the buffet! The next Sunday outing, March 9th is being organised by Andy Canning, and will be at the Three Horse Shoes at Wixford, please call Andy at home to reserve your place. Richard Durrant gave a short outline of the forthcoming trip to the museums at RAF Cosford, members ears pricked up when he announced that entrance was FREE. After a few dates were suggested, avoiding clashes with other events at Cosford, the date of July 27th was provisionally agreed. A show of hands from members wanting to join the trip ensured that it will be well attended. Richard is also organising one tour guide, just to reserve capacity, however there will be a charge for this service of £20 per group, with a maximum of 12 people in any one group. More guides may be available subject to notice and demand................ It was also announced that the Best of British show, held annually at Gaydon, was cancelled, due in some part to the significant losses incurred with the show last year, which you will all know, was a total washout. CVTR did get 12 cars there and did the best possible in the circumstances, but that turned out to be the precursor to many shows last year! However, we do have the honour of the Standard Triumph day being held at Prescott on the 17th and 18th of May. Saturday will be a Cotswold run, organised by the Stag Owners Club, followed by a bar-b-que at the Steam railway at Toddington, with this part being managed by the TSSC. An alternative of a "fish and chip" supper on the train is also being offered. Sunday sees the main event, with various options available to sample the hillclimb course, either in a cavalcade, or alongside a championship winning driver in the championship winning cars. There will be trade stands and autojumbling, along with exhibits from each of the organising clubs. More details of this event is available in TR Action, from the office, on the Register forum or from Merv Parkes. Needless to say, these events take a huge amount of manpower to stage, and as this event takes place on CVTR's patch, we are being asked by the Register if any members would like to volunteer their services sometime throughout the weekend. If anyone is interested, please let Andy, Colin, or Merv Parkes know (preferably all three). Having read my emails this morning, Colin has submitted an eating event previously not discussed at the meeting, namely another "Pudding Night" at The Dog, Baughton, to be held on the 6th of March, please contact Colin Boother. Rumour has it that he is determined to recover his "crown" after discovering a number of members had achieved 17 puddings last time around. Colin has ordered extra custard on his portions so beware anyone taking up the challenge this time around. That's it for February, please check the future events page to see what is scheduled, and note any changes to avoid embarrassment all round! Ian Brown and Andrew Racey
A new year starts for CVTR with a great night out at the Golden Cross at Ardens Grafton for our annual dinner and awards ceremony. The food was excellent and the wine flowed.Colin and Leslie did a great job of making sure that all 44 people knew what they were eating and the staff were very attentive as well. The awards followed a brief speech from our joint group leader-Andy Canning and were as follows:
So whats happening in 2008? Well the "social committee" (ie anyone interested) got together at the Fleece in January to start to map out a programme for 2008 details of which should be available on our web site after our club night on January 23rd. But here is a "taster" of what we hope to arrange. Sunday lunch will be on February 17th at the Thai Emerald in Evesham-- talk to Tim Walker for booking. May will see us heavily involved with the register at the Standard Triumph weekend at Prescott, 17/18th May. The Evesham show and Churchill events are in June. July and we hope to have a bring and buy auction at the Fleece. Now its not just hunting out your old TR items which you no longer want, no its an auction for anything you might want to get rid of. So start looking in the garage and loft and see what you have that you can enter in the auction. More details will follow--so watch this space. August and we hope to arrange a day trip -coffee on route to the Blist Hill site near Telford. More details to follow. All the above plus a river trip, fish and chip supper, skittles evening with Birmingham group, a run to RAF Cosford, Burlingham ,Great Comberton and Drakes Broughton shows to name but a few. Get the cars polished, the oil changed and fill them with petrol -- an extremely busy year ahead, and that's without mentioning CVTR involvement in taking on the 2008 IWE bring and buy stall from the London Group!!!!!!! Andrew Racey/Ian Brown
Well what a very busy few days it has been with two AGM's to attend. I am sure the registers meeting will be more than adequately covered in the next TR action, but suffice to say that Ian Evans was given a really good send off and he has been replaced by Chris Cunnington as our new Chairman,on behalf of Cotswold Vale group I am sure we all wish them both well. It was encouraging to see 12 CVTR members at Gaydon.
Now to our own AGM-- held at the Fleece on Wednesday 28th November and attended by 32 members. It is not intended to go into too much detail in this newsletter. The joint Group Leaders and Treasurer were elected un-opposed and our financial position as a group remains healthy. Many events were organised through out the year and were very well attended- which suggests we must be doing something right. Our Sunday lunches/fun runs also saw good turnouts. We did spend sometime getting ideas for 2008, here are some of them -- but by no means exhaustive. A bring and buy auction to be held at one of our Wednesday night meetings:
We also know of various other car shows etc which we will be discussing in January prior to publishing our diary of events for 2008. Any other ideas will be more than welcomed.
Many of you may be aware that London Group who have run this very successfully for the past few years have indicated that they want to stand down and let someone else have a go. After much debate at our meeting we have agreed as a group to man a stall for the Saturday (we have 11 names of volunteers willing to give up half a day). The register will then see if they can get another group or enough volunteers to man the stall on the Sunday. Well that's about it for this month,If you haven't put your name down for the Sunday lunch at the Fleece on 9th December then phone Colin or Andy. There is no Wednesday meeting in December so we will hopefully see everyone in 2008 on Wed 23rd January.
After considerable lobbying by classic car owners Michelin previewed their new alternative to wire wheels at the Philadelphia car show. Click here for more info.
