NEWSLETTER - JUNE 2008
Busy month and its not over yet. Evesham show very well attended with 9 cars. The weather turned out to be great and I gather we put on the best display of the weekend.Well done to all concerned.

The next day i.e. Sunday 8th was the Churchill event, again with a good turnout of 10 cars. It appears that we were sited next to a swarm of bees, so a number of our members were educated on the nesting and life cycle habits of the bee. Fortunately no one was stung (not even Colin for the dessert!!)

Onto the monthly meeting at the Fleece. Well attended with over 30 members. Keith and Gill along with Colin and Leslie were on their to France ( hopefully with a phrase book which includes - does it come with custard.).We welcomed five new members and hope to see them at future events/meetings.

Andy chaired the meeting with the new start time of 8.30pm (be it a little bit late as not everyone knew the start time).

Events for the next few weeks include:-
  • June 28th - The Drakes Broughton village show and car displays. Richard and Meg are organising the CVTR's stand and hopefully we will have 12 to 15 cars. It opens at noon until about 4.00pm, so please come along and support if you have time.
  • July 13th and Sunday lunch will be at the Three Horse shoes at Wixford, please confirm names to Andy. This is a location we  have used on a regular basis where we get a good Sunday lunch in pleasant surroundings at good value.
  • July 18th - The Birlingham bi-annual car show on their cricket field. For those who don't know where it is, get to Pershore and then pick up the road to Upton-on -Severn. Its about 3 miles out of the town and will be well sign posted at the entrance to the village. Its a great event with lots of vintage car, bikes and classic cars as well as some expensive modern day beasts
  • July 18th-20th and its the International at Malvern. We all hope it will be better than last years washout. CVTR are heavily involved - like running the bring and buy stall. Those who are giving their time to this event know their slots. Please be there to relieve those who are on the stall.Alan Wilding and Colin Boother are leading the event for CVTR--so please talk to them if you can help.We have been told that there is also a quiz night at the international on the Friday night (same night as Birlingham). So its up to you to decide which - if any - of the events you want to attend.
  • July 27th and its the Cosford run - leaving the Ombersley lay-by at 8.30am, off the A449 Kidderminster road. We have 22 cars with 38 people at present. Coffee enroute with an arrival time around 10.30 to 11.00am. Guides will be on hand to take us round . Lunch can be obtained on site. Richard and Meg Durrant are organising the trip.
  • August 3rd and its the intergroup meeting at the Fleece. From noon onwards. Please let Andy Canning know if you can attend.
  • August 8th and the rearranged  Sprit of Freedom on Avon trip is finally happening. The boat has now risen from the muddy waters of the Avon, been totally refurbished and is ready for our evening cruise. Please talk to Ian Brown to book your place, its first come first served with only 40 places available.
So a busy few weeks coming up. May you exhausts breath fire and your tyres smoke as you burn rubber in those polished cars. (sorry getting carried away now) Anyway enjoy yourselves.

NEWSLETTER - MAY 2008

Well we must start off with saying what a fabulous weekend we had with the Standard Triumph Marque Day. The weather was great which meant the Saturdays events at Toddington and then Sunday at Prescott were very well supported.CVTR members more than played their part on both days and did some stirling work on the gates and in the ticket lodge. The fact that the car parks were full along with the camp will mean hopefully that the three clubs will have made a profit, but more importantly everyone had a great time. Many thanks to Chris Cunnington who sent our Group Leader a letter of congratulations for all the work put into the event by CVTR members.

Onto the bank holiday weekend and the usual bad weather. The event at the Fleece was supported by three/four TR's and I believe a good time was had by those who turned up in the wind and rain.

So onto our monthly meeting at the Fleece where we had over 30 members in attendance including some guests from North Wales Group plus Moss their dog.  Andy reported that the TR international working party met and the work is now well underway for the event in July, more on this later.

The next few weeks events are as follows:

  • 1st June - Glavon has their Dolly Run --talk to Andy for details.
  • 6th June - Trial run for the International Bring and Buy/Sell stall at the The Fleece, 7.30pm
  • 7th June - Its onto the Crown Meadow at Evesham for the Evesham motor show. This event was well attended last year, with hot air balloons, Sporting Bears cars, old army vehicles and many other classic cars. Ian Brown has volunteered to organise the event, he has sent an e-mail to CVTR members, please try and support if you can.
  • 8th June - The bi-annual event of the Churchill car show takes place. You should have booked by now if you are going.
  • 11th June - Birmingham group have their annual concourse event at Halesowen. Again talk to Andy for details if you want to go. There will be a barbecue and a some nice prizes for the best turned out cars. Hopefully CVTR members will come away with one or two.
  • 17th June - TR International Working Party meeting at the Three Counties Showground, Malvern, 7.30pm. There will a further opportunity to find out about the running of the Bring and Buy/Sell stall. ***Free*** tea/coffee and cakes - get there before Colin does!!
  • 28th June -  We have the Drakes Broughton show starting around 11.00am. This was a great show last year ,a typical village garden show with various stalls, and events together with a good afternoon tea. Richard Durrant is organising on behalf of the club.

Onto July we have:

  • 11th July ( we think this is the right date ) - The bi-annual car show at Burlingham--just outside Pershore. This is a really good evening with all sorts of Vintage and classic cars/motorbikes as well as some rather expensive new sports cars. We will be there on the cricket field, a barbecue and bar are usually busy so you may want to bring your own food and drink.
  • 12/13th July - The Fladbury walkabout. Watch this space for more news about this event nearer the time.
  • 18-20th July - The TR International at Malvern. CVTR are running the bring and sell/buy event over the weekend ( Colin tells me he has enough volunteers for the two days.)We have lists of people who have said they will help--there looks like there will be a training session on how the days will operate on June 6th. Colin or Alan Wilding will contact people to arrange times/venue etc. Some may not be able to attend so hopefully the next club night will also be an opportunity to have a briefing as well.
  • 27th July - Richards trip to Cosford will take place. By now you should have your name down and given details to him of which parts of the site you want to visit. This promises to be a good day out and all for less than a fiver and that includes tea or coffee en -route.

A reminder that the inter group meeting takes place at the Fleece on Sunday 3rd August. An advert will be in TR action next month.

We also agreed to purchase a set of walkie talkies for the club to use--AR to action KB to pay!!

***Please note***
It was agreed at the end of the meeting that we will in future start our formal business of the day at 8.30 pm not 9.00pm as of the June meeting.

So a very busy few weeks--get the polish out and start motoring.

Finally Andy said that some people had asked why the monthly meeting started at 9.00pm--well mainly to allow those members who have to travel some distance to get there for the formal bit of the meeting is the answer. NEWSLETTER - MAR 2008

Our meeting at Fleece on 26th March was well supported with 23 people in attendance. However only one TR and that was Colin Boother giving his new engine in his TR4A a blast.

The Sunday lunch on April 13th is at the Hunters Inn at Longdon, a venue we used last year where we had a great lunch. Pat and Alf Widmer are organising it, so if you haven't booked in yet then give them a bell.

The next big event CVTR are involved in is the Triumph weekend on 17/18th of May. The Saturdays events take place at Toddington, home of the steam railway, with trips on the train, a Cotswold convoy run and a barbecue in the evening.

On the Sunday is the main event based at Prescott, this will include trade stands, auto jumble, hill climbs (which must be booked) and a cavalcade up the hill. Camping is also on site and so far the pre-booked numbers are looking very healthy.

As far as CVTR are concerned we need lots of people to help with marshalling, taking money for hill climbs and checking in. Plus manning the TR register stand etc. There will be a briefing meeting on site at Prescott on the Saturday morning . We will agree times at the April meeting at the Fleece so if you cant make that then watch this space.

This weekend is THE Triumph event of the year with the TR Register,Triumph Sports Six Club and Stag Owners Club all working together with our main sponsor Moss-Europe to ensure that all Triumph owners having a cracking two days. So please try and come along.

June sees the Evesham car show ,The Churchill car show, as well as a show at Fladbury, so look at the calander on the web site or this newsletter for details nearer the time.

July we have the Burlingham car show, a great evening at a small village cricket club, run every other year with lots of different classic, vintage and sports cars. July 27th is the Cosford Sunday run to the aircraft museum being organised by Richard Durrant,The entry is free but we will pay for guided tour which will cost each member a pound or two.

So folks get the cars out,the polish on and start those engines for a full and varied programme over the next few months.

NEWSLETTER - FEB 2008

Our February meeting took place on the normal club night, and we were particularly pleased to welcome new members, Dave and Sally Roberts, and the recently elected Group leader from the Birmingham group, Dave Newbery.

The Stoneleigh Triumph Show and Spares day went really well, plenty of CVTR members in attendance, all that was missing was Andy Canning and his infamous cakes for refreshment on the Register stand! The weather was tremendous, which contributed significantly to the bumper attendance at the show.

Our Sunday "drink" at the Thai Emerald was ably organised by Tim Walker, and yet again those attending feasted on the best oriental cuisine for miles around, and at great value for the buffet!
The next Sunday outing, March 9th is being organised by Andy Canning, and will be at the Three Horse Shoes at Wixford, please call Andy at home to reserve your place.

Richard Durrant gave a short outline of the forthcoming trip to the museums at RAF Cosford, members ears pricked up when he announced that entrance was FREE. After a few dates were suggested, avoiding clashes with other events at Cosford, the date of July 27th was provisionally agreed. A show of hands from members wanting to join the trip ensured that it will be well attended. Richard is also organising one tour guide, just to reserve capacity, however there will be a charge for this service of £20 per group, with a maximum of 12 people in any one group. More guides may be available subject to notice and demand................

It was also announced that the Best of British show, held annually at Gaydon, was cancelled, due in some part to the significant losses incurred with the show last year, which you will all know, was a total washout. CVTR did get 12 cars there and did the best possible in the circumstances, but that turned out to be the precursor to many shows last year!

However, we do have the honour of the Standard Triumph day being held at Prescott on the 17th and 18th of May. Saturday will be a Cotswold run, organised by the Stag Owners Club, followed by a bar-b-que at the Steam railway at Toddington, with this part being managed by the TSSC. An alternative of a "fish and chip" supper on the train is also being offered. Sunday sees the main event, with various options available to sample the hillclimb course, either in a cavalcade, or alongside a championship winning driver in the championship winning cars. There will be trade stands and autojumbling, along with exhibits from each of the organising clubs. More details of this event is available in TR Action, from the office, on the Register forum or from Merv Parkes.
Needless to say, these events take a huge amount of manpower to stage, and as this event takes place on CVTR's patch, we are being asked by the Register if any members would like to volunteer their services sometime throughout the weekend. If anyone is interested, please let Andy, Colin, or Merv Parkes know (preferably all three).

Having read my emails this morning, Colin has submitted an eating event previously not discussed at the meeting, namely another "Pudding Night" at The Dog, Baughton, to be held on the 6th of March, please contact Colin Boother. Rumour has it that he is determined to recover his "crown" after discovering a number of members had achieved 17 puddings last time around. Colin has ordered extra custard on his portions so beware anyone taking up the challenge this time around.

That's it for February, please check the future events page to see what is scheduled, and note any changes to avoid embarrassment all round!

NEWSLETTER - JAN 2008

A new year starts for CVTR with a great night out at the Golden Cross at Ardens Grafton for our annual dinner and awards ceremony. The food was excellent and the wine flowed.Colin and Leslie did a great job of making sure that all 44 people knew what they were eating and the staff were very attentive as well.

The awards followed a brief speech from our joint group leader-Andy Canning and were as follows:

  • Andy Canning == The Triumph Over Adversity Cup. For his use of the Escort van at a number of events during 2007. He has been rather busy building a house extension to get his TR4 on the road.
  • Alf Widmer == Carbon Footprint Award (new award, made from coal!!).  For covering the most miles in a TR by a CVTR member in 2007.
  • Keith Brown (our Treasurer) == Most Used Car Award.
  • Tim Walker == Special Award.  For all his efforts with our web site.

So whats happening in 2008? Well the "social committee" (ie anyone interested) got together at the Fleece in January to start to map out a programme for 2008 details of which should be available on our web site after our club night on January 23rd. But here is a "taster" of what we hope to arrange.

Sunday lunch will be on February 17th at the Thai Emerald in Evesham-- talk to Tim Walker for booking.

May will see us heavily involved with the register at the Standard Triumph weekend at Prescott, 17/18th May.

The Evesham show and Churchill events are in June.

July and we hope to have a bring and buy auction at the Fleece. Now its not just hunting out your old TR items which you no longer want, no its an auction for anything you might want to get rid of. So start looking in the garage and loft and see what you have that you can enter in the auction. More details will follow--so watch this space.

August and we hope to arrange a day trip -coffee on route to the Blist Hill site near Telford. More details to follow.

All the above plus a river trip, fish and chip supper, skittles evening with Birmingham group, a run to RAF Cosford, Burlingham ,Great Comberton and Drakes Broughton shows to name but a few.

Get the cars polished, the oil changed and fill them with petrol -- an extremely busy year ahead, and that's without mentioning CVTR involvement in taking on the 2008 IWE bring and buy stall from the London Group!!!!!!!

Newsletter - Nov 2007

Well what a very busy few days it has been with two AGM's to attend.

I am sure the registers meeting will be more than adequately covered in the next TR action, but suffice to say that Ian Evans was given a really good send off and he has been replaced by Chris Cunnington as our new Chairman,on behalf of Cotswold Vale group I am sure we all wish them both well. It was encouraging to see 12 CVTR members at Gaydon.

CVTR AGM

Now to our own AGM-- held at the Fleece on Wednesday 28th November and attended by 32 members. It is not intended to go into too much detail in this newsletter. The joint Group Leaders and Treasurer were elected un-opposed and our financial position as a group remains healthy. Many events were organised through out the year and were very well attended- which suggests we must be doing something right. Our Sunday lunches/fun runs also saw good turnouts.

We did spend sometime getting ideas for 2008, here are some of them -- but by no means exhaustive.

A bring and buy auction to be held at one of our Wednesday night meetings:

  • River trip
  • Pudding club night
  • Barbecue
  • A visit to RAF Cotsford
  • A talk by Neil Revington
  • The Churchill car show
  • The Burlingham car show
  • A visit to the Iron Bridge
  • A presentation by Snap on tools
  • Drakes Broughton car show

We also know of various other car shows etc which we will be discussing in January prior to publishing our diary of events for 2008. Any other ideas will be more than welcomed.

NEW YEARS DINNER

Booked at The Golden Cross for Saturday 12th January, there are still a few places left so if you want to come contact Colin Boother to book your places. For those that were not at the meeting we need to be at our tables by 7.45 latest, so PLEASE don't be late. We will also be presenting the CVTR awards for 2007, including the "sods law trophy" which Colin appears to be rather good at winning.

BRING AND BUY STALL AT THE INTERNATIONAL

Many of you may be aware that London Group who have run this very successfully for the past few years have indicated that they want to stand down and let someone else have a go. After much debate at our meeting we have agreed as a group to man a stall for the Saturday (we have 11 names of volunteers willing to give up half a day). The register will then see if they can get another group or enough volunteers to man the stall on the Sunday.

Well that's about it for this month,If you haven't put your name down for the Sunday lunch at the Fleece on 9th December then phone Colin or Andy. There is no Wednesday meeting in December so we will hopefully see everyone in 2008 on Wed 23rd January.

Heartlands Vintage Transport Festival

From.
David Griffiths
Festival Secretary
Rhymney Valley Transport Preservation Society
59 Cardiff Road
Bargoed CF81 8PA

Dear Colin ,

We would like to extend a special welcome and invitation to all owners of Triumph sporting cars and especially members of the T R Register to join us at our annual Heartlands Vintage Transport Festival which will be an early rally season starter over the weekend of 19-20th April 2008.

It is taking place again at at the Blackwood Civic Centre & Country Park at Blackwood near Caerphilly, and is easily accessable from the M4 and M5/M50, in fact we are less than 40 miles from the centre of Bristol and less than 80 miles from Birmingham and only 12 miles from Cardiff and Newport.

The festival always looks for the unusual and in 2008 we will seek to beat the record for the largest display of Sinclair C5's , we will once again hold gatherings of Czech Made motor vehicles, classic hearses, and even invalid carriages and lawnmowers as well as all the usual vintage and classic motor cars, motorcycles, buses, lorries , ambulances, tractors and vintage machinery etc.

There will be a dedicated area for Land Rovers and Military Vehicles with an off road demo area and a series of free vintage bus trips.

There is also a live music programme for general tastes, Saturday is Country & Folk Rock and Pop from mid day to mid night and Sunday in our Folk Sunday with folk dance displays .

And for the ladies, celtic wrestling on both days .

Camping on site is possible by agreement.

Our Food Court is bound to be a big attraction with a nice range of foods catering for all different tastes from traditional cornish pasties or fish and chips to indian or thai menus and of course healthy eating is not forgotten.

A prize and cash award for the Best Club display of five or more cars is also part of this years event.

Don't forget to check out our dedicated website which is updated every few days at www.welsh-transport-festival.co.uk

Any assistance in spreading the word would be much appreciated and all profit will be dedicated to the Wales Air Ambulance, a worthwhile life saving charity.

Best Regards

David
