Newsletter 4/08 June 8th. 2008 Greetings Cumbria Group, As is the norm lately with our newsletters, firstly an update on Thomas’ progress;- and it is all good. Thomas continues to make excellent progress, so much so that he plans to be back at work by mid July, a situation that he and Ann could barely have dared hope for six months ago, so on behalf of the group we wish them both continued progress as Thomas heads for full recovery. So to the future few weeks, most of you know I have finally pulled the plug on trying to organise a group w/e to Duns etc, one yes and one perhaps really did not make the effort worthwhile, my thanks goes to Ray for his support on this, maybe another year? Distington Show is sorted, thanks to all who are attending, two quick words, PLEASE be at the ground by 9.30AM and be aware that there are Major road works at Distington this Summer, so allow extra time to get on site. Secondly You will remember a new company Solway Blast Cleaning, Maryport, has stated trading and West Cumberland Member Ed Morley has been pleased with results, they plan to have a stand at Distington and will blast any sample items you take on the day, do not suppose this means a chassis but you have the info. Now as I said at the AGM, I plan to miss Malvern this tear, but Thomas and Ann plan to attend and to take the BBQ for set up on Saturday Night, they will mark the site with our Cumbria Group Banner, so the facilities will be there for you to burn your own food. (My note on this, Thomas and Ann have been under some pressure, this year, plus they are travelling indirectly to Malvern so for this year make sure you take everything you want, if you join them on the Saturday night.) Our May and June runs were both excellent, thanks to James and Lynda for May and Ken Spark for June, I was thinking about the distance between the farthest distance we travelled on these two days, i.e. North West into Scotland and South West into Yorkshire and I bet it’s a long way! Sunday August 3rd. we have rearranged today, Thomas and Ann have invited the group to their new house at Longtown for a Group BBQ. Plan is to meet at Stainton to leave at 10.30AM for a decent run to arrive at Longtown at about 1.30PM. Thomas and Ann will provide the condiments and Salad everybody brings there own main course etc. Following W/E;- is the ball, you all know about this, so I guess we will see some of you there, can I mention Lesley Bradley, who continues to do sterling work on the ball. Following W/W;- Ken and Chris Wilsons’ afternoon tea, format is as in previous years, and a word to the wise, do not have much lunch! We will leave Southend Car Park at 1.00 PM NOTE Southend NOT Stainton, plan is to arrive at Wigton around 3.00PM. We continue to have roughly a 70/30 split on newsletter delivery e-mail v slow mail. If you can receive the N/Lby e-mail. Let us know it’s quicker for you and of course cheaper to the group. Finally, it was a full two newsletters ago now, that I said I would step down in January, I did get an e-mail about this and have had a couple of conversations, along the lines of ‘You’re not stepping down?’ well Yes, take this on board folks I am into my last six months, and I hope at least a couple of you are mulling the job over in your minds or it is going to be a very short AGM! John Hetherington my right hand man on the admin side of things has also said that would seem like a suitable time to retire, You will remember John does both the club accounts and everything to do with the newsletters, and I have been very grateful indeed to him for both initially taking the task and continuing even after he sold his own car, so cheers John for that. Hope you got the gist of this, never said I was any good at grammar,- just liked Tr’ing. As always I ‘m just a call away. John Morrison.
