TR Action 227

April saw the group on an immaculately prepared run planned by the Jordan family, who operate very much as a team; that’s Sue, (aka ‘Brains’) Jeff, aka (‘The Pilot’) and Jordan aka (‘The Navigator co-pilot’). They collectively took us around the North Lakes, and along the Solway Firth. Sue gets the title ‘Brains’ because she does all the paperwork and route notes, always spot on; Jeff gets the title “The Pilot” because that’s how he drives his TR4, (like he is trying to get it airborne, his ‘everyday’ car is a Maserati) and Jordon gets the title Navigator/Co –pilot because (a) he is not old enough to drive yet - though it won’t be long. - and (b) because without his instructions Jeff would be airborne. Day was titled Our Spring Flowers Run –with five Lakes, one Tarn, some Forest and including The Solway Firth. A terrific Day.

What was also included was sleet, rain and three different snow blizzards. Many a lesser club would have declined, but with the ethos of the Register ‘To use our cars’ then we had the full day, and even managed a snowball fight whilst parked on Honister Pass. Thanks goes to The Marshalls in equal measure.

We had fourteen cars meet at Penrith, including Thomas and Ann, Thomas continues to make exceptional progress after his op.

Next it is the South West Scotland with James and Lynda, and then Yorkshire with Ken Spark.

Greetings all, from that bastion of North of England TR’ing that is Cumbria.

We are off again, with our 2008 season up and running. February meeting was a natter day at The Hydro, just lunch and a chat and sometimes that is just what is needed, a time to put the world to rights, swap tips and hints and seek diagnosis of problems others might have encountered. Now it is always good to see Joyce and Brian, Brian, ancient Cumbria Guru, (Could have worded that better, but you know what I mean) guided me to a solution to a problem I had with my TR4, simply whilst we were chatting! Is there anyone out there who still does not realise the value of attending their local group? If so, you owe it to yourself to make the effort.

Seven days later and we took four cars to Stoneleigh spares day, mixed feedback this year but I for one thought that it was better than previous years. I find it is becoming as much a social event now as a source of that elusive part.

Then to March, and our first ALL Day run of the year. I put this in the programme as a three quarter day plus a pub lunch, well I lied; no, not about the lunch but we certainly were out all day, fourteen cars met at the start at Penrith and followed a cross country route, covering over 100 miles that eventually took us to Kielder water, we encountered some excellent C Class roads including a series of 25% descents that our cars were just built for.
This was a top down day, and as I write this watching the news of storms, gales, snow and ice closed roads and cancelled ferries - well I guess the omens are good for 2008!

Happy TR’ing.

Cumbria Group nicely completed 2007 with a posh afternoon Tea in The Lake then our usual magical Christmas party night at The Hydro. Thirty three people enjoyed the party and we were delighted once again to welcome some of Wharfedale group, including new group co-ordinator Mike Sloan together with Kate. Great to see you all, and if you had half as good a night as I did well you had a gud ‘un. Lesley Bradley once again is the person to receive all the accolades about the party, thanks again Lesley, and a Big Thank You also goes to Chris Wilson who again supplied a beautiful, home made, Christmas Cake as a Club Raffle Prize; together two special ladies who help to make Cumbria Group a very special Group indeed.

So to 2008 and our AGM. Thanks goes firstly to Margaret Balls for agreeing to take the minutes of the meeting, and then a collective thanks to all who (a) did something extra for the group in 2007 and (b) who stepped up once again to help in 2008. I want to personally thank all the group officers who stood once again, thanks to Christen Morch who stood down as our website man and to Mark Sindle who took over the job.

Lesley Bradley won the TR’er of the year award, and James and Lynda Kidner shared the day to remember trophy with Ray and Ann Wright.

In what I can only describe as a rigged vote that a banana republic would have been proud of I got the reliability award; do I sound bitter? Well good, because I am. Seriously though our 2008 programme is set with three weekends away plus some of us supporting Ken and Chris Wilson in the fiftieth anniversary sojourns back to Le Mans.

If you are Cumbria Group Member you already have your copy of the programme, if you are not a local but fancy joining us at any time, check the website or get in touch directly, I promise a very warm Cumbria group Welcome.

Happy TR’ing in 2008, whatever you plan and may your trips be both enjoyable and safe.
