TR Action 231

September saw a group of Devon members making their way to Goodwood for the Revival Weekend and for once this year the weather took a turn for the better and a great time was had by all. I did notice that there appeared to be more people wearing period dress on all three days of the meeting this year; there was also plenty of interesting classics to view in the pre-1966 car parking area as well as good racing on the track. A few of us stayed over on the Sunday evening and returned home on Monday, stopping off for lunch at West Bay where we sat on the sea front in the sun eating our fish and chips - what a way to finish off a great weekend.

Our next outing was on Sunday 28th September to the second meeting of the Southwest Triumph Meet at Route 38 café which is just across the river Tamar into Cornwall. Like the first meeting held in May the weather was great, encouraging many Triumph owners to bring their cars along: there was a good selection of cars ranging from a completely original 1970 Triumph Herald convertible to a Triumph Spitfire with a Rover V8 engine under the bonnet. The Register was represented by members from Devon and Cornwall groups. As most of our members present had to head back towards the Exeter area it was decided to have a run back via Tavistock and Dartmoor, with Kevin, Jean and myself parting company with the others at Two Bridges and heading back to Plymouth after another good day out.

On arriving at the Rising Sun for our October monthly meeting the car park was almost full and it was the same when we entered the pub, where we found the local village was holding their Harvest Supper. It was a bit of a squeeze for a while until a couple of tables were free for us to use, with the meeting being well supported.

The October Sunday lunch at the Church House Inn at Stokenham was another good meet where we enjoyed a good lunch before setting off on a run to Dartmouth. Our local Dartmouth residents, Bob and Sue, led the way calling in to Dartmouth Castle for a tea and coffee stop, not a cream tea this time. We then headed into Dartmouth before departing for the homeward journey.

With this issue publication date of 1st December making it the last Action for another year, it is time for me to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

TR Action 230

This report starts with the International Weekend which was omitted from the last report through lack of space.  Arriving on the Friday afternoon, with plenty of time to set-up camp, ready for another full weekend enjoying all the events the Register organised for us.  A few of us were persuaded to help with judging various classes in the Concours event.

Both of the Friday monthly meetings were well supported; the only thing missing being the fine summer evenings allowing us to hold the meetings in the car park around the cars.

The August Sunday lunch was held at the Royal Oak Inn at Dunkeswell, and again was well supported. After lunch the weather held to allow a nice drive around surrounding villages and lanes, our thanks to Kevin and Jean for leading the group. The finishing point was Dennis and Jenny’s house where Jenny had been busy in the kitchen baking scones for a traditional cream tea for everyone. Many thanks to Dennis and Jenny for their hospitality and providing an excellent finish to our Sunday run. It was time to say farewells and head for home. I arrived back in Plymouth and put the car back in the garage moments before a yet another downpour.

The meeting on the first Friday in September was held on yet another horrible night of which we’ve had far too many this year, but even with bad weather and lack of TRs in the car park the meet was still well supported.

Some dates for the future:
Friday 7th November - Rising Sun Inn, Woodlands - Monthly meeting and AGM.
Sunday 16th November, our last Sunday lunch for ‘08 at the Five Bells, Clyst Hydon.

Finally a request for assistance. The Dorset Group are staying in Porlock over the weekend of 15th -16th November. It’s an opportunity for our North Devon members to arrange a meet and perhaps a run to show the Dorset guys around their patch. Please contact the Dorset group directly.

TR Action 229

This report starts off with our lunch run on father’s day to the Quarryman Inn at Edmonton and meeting up with the Cornwall group. Three cars left the Plymouth area meeting up with two more on the way and on our arrival there were already a few cars in the car park, one being a very nice looking TR4 Dove belonging to Colin and Valerie from Bude. After our lunch we returned to the car park to find we had been joined by three cars from the Thames Valley Group who were visiting friends in the area before catching the ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff. Our thanks go to Pete Rugg for recommending the venue.

Our usual visit to the Powderham Castle Car Show was cancelled on the Sunday morning after the heavy rain on Saturday night.

Wednesday 9th July ten cars boarded the night ferry from Plymouth to Roscoff heading for the Le Mans Classic weekend, the crossing was a bit on the rough side with a few members glad to back on dry land in the morning. After a breakfast stop at Morlaix we split into two groups and headed for our hotel, meeting up again for lunch at Chateaubourg. All cars reached the hotel without any problems but because our tickets ordered through the Register and TSSC were late it was a quick turn around for Martin and me to head to the track and pick up tickets at the entry gate arriving back at the hotel with just enough time to grab a quick shower and beer before our meal.

Friday saw us heading up through the countryside, stopping off for coffee on route before reaching the track and parking up in the Triumph parking area near the Dunlop Bridge. This gave us time to have a look around the stall and paddocks before watching the cars on their practice laps before heading back to our hotel to meet up with Andy and Elaine who travelled down on the Friday.

First job on Saturday morning was to solder a broken wire on Roger’s microphone before exploring the small villages in the surrounding area on our way to the track for the start of the racing. Unfortunately on entering the track and getting his tickets scanned John’s clutch slave cylinder decided to dump all the fluid on the deck resulting in the car being pushed inside the gate for further investigation. Although we all carry some spares none of the Devon cars could help and it was time to wander through the TSSC camping area hoping to find a helpful TR member. Our luck was in, and many thanks goes to Andrew Heywood who had not only a seal kit but a new cylinder which he was willing to sell to John to get him back on the road. After that event everything ran smoothly with everyone enjoying the weekend and our stop over at Perros-Guirec on the way back.

That’s it for now, please check the web site for future events.
