TR Action 255

As the sleigh bells have all stopped ringing, the remaining few pine needles have eventually been found by being trodden on by bare feet (ouch!), and the last of the mince pies and Christmas cake is being distributed to those who probably have now got sick of the sight of them; the winter blues for some have well and truly set in. But not for the KVG members, as we prepare to take a trip this coming weekend all the way to Cirencester, for our Christmas Party and disco, at the Stratton House Hotel, where most will be staying for two nights.

November club night, yes I know it seems ages ago now, we enjoyed a presentation about the KVG trip to France and the Chanteloup Hill Climb, but also, and probably more significant to us all, the importance of the additive ZDDP in classic oils, after one of our members suffered a camshaft failure recently. We were well educated about something most of us had never heard of. I encourage all to Google ZDDP if you wish to learn more.

Our November mid-monthly meeting was a skittles and buffet evening which went very well with some twenty plus people attending. The winners of the two killer matches were Phil and Jill. Do I hear “Fix”? No, they won fair and square beating the rest of us. Thanks go to Karen for organising the event.

To keep the winter events going December’s club meeting is embracing a quiz evening, with an invite to local TSSC members also, and I am sure a report on these will follow in due course.

Looking to the future, we have several events planned for club nights, including an interesting presentation about a 1930s Wolseley Hornet rebuild, and parts 2 & 3 on the history of Triumphs, with video footage and talks.

We are also planning further ahead, one event being our camping weekend at Merley, Wimborne, Dorset, in June which is also open to other groups, so if you are interested in joining us for this pleasant weekend, or for any other KVG activities, please email Mike Field on kvg-tr-events@talktalk.net or phone 07411 238034 for further details.

From me, all that is left is to say is a slightly belated Happy New Year to all our KVG members and friends, and hope to see many of you during this coming year, both at The Winning Hand on club nights, and at the various events we arrange or attend throughout the year.

Full details can be found on the KVG calendar on the TR Register website.

TR Action 254

The September meeting at the Winning Hand was well attended. Thanks to the work of Mike Field our numbers have now increased with an average of 35 people being present at most meetings. Well done Mike.

Despite a small rain shower the weather was much warmer than last year at this year’s Shalbourne Manor Car show at the end of September. A good number of Kennet Valley members were there with a great selection of TRs. Also there were both the SOC from Bristol and the Newbury TSSC making it another excellent day for the Triumph marque. This show always attracts a wide selection of Veteran, Vintage, Classic cars and motorbikes in a lovely 17 century manor house setting with many traditional side attractions. Amongst the 1930s line up there was a very smart Triumph Gloria mixed in with some equally stylish Rileys and Lagondas. All were very Art-Deco, with that grace and pace look of the time.

Our next outing was the Thatcham Classic Car Show which is a Classic & Sports car event. Four TRs met up at the Frank Hutchings Centre with four local TSSC members’ cars. Between both clubs we had a fine line up of Triumphs which were much admired. At the event there was a good range of cars but unlike Shalbourne most were post war which included a very rare late 1950s Turner.

Coming up:

With Winter just around the corner we have planned a number of indoor events. There is a Skittles evening on the 25th November at the Wessex Sports & Social Club, Newbury Racecourse. Plus the KVG/TSSC Quiz on 7th December, which is on a normal club night at the Winning Hand. If you are interested in the KVG Christmas party on 20th & 21st January at Cirencester then don’t delay as places are filling up fast. Get in touch with Peter Heywood with your deposit ASAP.

If you would like to join us or wish to contact us the details are on the web-site http://www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/kennet-valley/

That’s it for now.

TR Action 253

The 2011 British Summer brought the KVG into full action again, tops down, polish on, petrol in and throttles down, then hoods up, umbrella out, chamois leather into full action, then fleeces on - what a summer! Still our spirits are never dampened with our superb TR sports cars roaring away down the roads both in the UK and France.

Since our last Social Scene report, we have been active as usual. In July we attended the IWE, ten cars made the trip and we had our new event marquee in action. All thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and then most of us took the rest of the week to stay in local cottages and travelling around the Yorkshire countryside with trips to Goathland (better know as Aidensfield in TV’s Heartbeat), Whitby, Skipton, York Steam Museum, The Ribblehead Viaduct and many more.

In August we attended the 19th Newbury Classic Vehicle Show in aid of Leukaemia Reasearch. Our friends from Dorset Group also attended and we enjoyed a fantastic picnic together, we had twenty two TRs on the stand and were alongside the TSSC which gave a superb display of Triumphs dominating an area of the show. We also had the General Lee on the stand and the interest in the KVG TR presentation was terrific from the public and local press. Our Chairman Chris Cunnington also made an appearance and he was warmly welcomed and we hope suitably impressed. My thanks go out to all who helped out and supplied food and we raised a fantastic £148.52 for the charity.

Our mid-monthly meeting was a lunch at the Jolly Boatman, Thrupp, Oxon which just happened to coincide with the local air display, good weather, good food and full entertainment, thanks to Emrhys and Linda Barrell for the organisation.

By the time you read this, we will be fast approaching those dark winter nights and the clocks going back, KVG then takes on its winter calendar. In October we will have had a presentation about a Wolseley Hornet restoration, and a September mid-monthly at the Shalbourne Manor Classic show and an October run in East Berkshire -, more about these next report. For November I shall be giving a presentation on the KVG trip to Chanteloup les Vigne, France, back in June. In December we plan a quiz against the local TSSC and then its Christmas, WOW, where did 2011 go?

You can find our future events on the TR Register web pages, here is the link: http://www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/kennet-valley/future_events.html. You will always be welcome to our meetings and events and we look forward to seeing you.

Best wishes and TRaah for now!
