TR Action 240

In late September, the KVG “en masse” attended the Shalbourne Classic Car and Bike Show. Thanks to the request of one of our lady members, all Triumphs were placed in one of the four areas set aside for car. What a show! TRs, Stags, TSSC cars all together with one or possibly two pre-war Triumphs. Approximately two hundred cars and forty bikes were on show with the Triumph area having over 20% of the exhibits.
Mid-monthly meetings in October and November were the usual (for the winter period) Sunday lunches. In October we visited Littlecote House and toured the house, grounds and Roman mosaic. The Roman theme continued at the November meeting with a brisk walk round the Roman town of Silchester, led very competently by Sara and Dave Westwood (many thanks to you both). On return to the hostelry they were met by the less energetic members and all sat down to a traditional Sunday lunch.
With the passing of 2009, we look forward to the new year. The mid-monthly meetings for February and March are the usual winter format of lunch time events. The February meeting (21st) at the Traveller’s Rest at Cookham, the March (21st) is at the Crown & Garter at Inkpen. The annual shenanigan with the TSSC is still at the planning stage, so keep an eye on the web page.
Our AGM is on March 3rd and as many of you are aware, Richard is standing down as Group Leader after twenty one years, so we need to elect a successor; do please attend.
For 2010 the “curtain raiser” shows are both on Easter Monday, one being at Wyke Down, near Andover and the other being the Coleford Transport Festival in the Forest of Dean.
More than likely, whilst you are reading this the weather outside will be foul and you are probably not best pleased with things. The Remedy? Just go in to the garage and have a half hour potter around the TR, take a clean cloth and an oil can and give the TR a “good coat of looking at”. You will do the car a world of good, and after half an hour (or if you are like me, quite a lot longer) you will feel a lot better with things yourself!
Happy TRing for 2010; see you around. TR’aah for now.
Kennet Valley's long-serving Group Leader standing down
Richard Roberts, Kennet Valley Group Leader for the last 21 years, is standing down in 2010. Richard joined the group in 1984, and was elected leader in 1988. Since then he has served the KVG through good years and bad, through times when the numbers attending meetings was down to only a handful, back up to the successful level it is today. Throughout this time his determined good humour has stood him in good stead, and encouraged a strong support team for all the group's activities.
He has even managed to find time to restore several TR2s, TR3s, and TR7s, together with the TR6 which he runs today, plus all his family commitments, but he is now hoping that if he steps down from the top job he will finally be able to start work on the TR3 that has been sitting waiting patiently in its garage for the past ten years.?
The Group is looking for candidates to fill the position he has left, from the AGM next March. The qualifications are enthusiasm, a moderate amount of time, and the ability to lead an experienced committee ready for new challenges. Applications to Richard Roberts, Tel: 0118 946 1918. TR Action 238

When you read this, we will be well into the darker evenings and coming to the end of a summer that really has been kind for KVG events and successes.
Since our last TR Action report, KVG has attended various shows and events and of course the TR International at Malvern. Once again our members had success in the Concours - this has now become a regular occurrence within the group, this time it was Joyce Woodham that walked off with best of class in Pride of Ownership for her beautiful Red TR7 V8 and yet again Bill Bourne taking a Gold award in the same class for his TR6.
We also had our annual alternate get together with Dorset Group, this year it commenced with an ample lunch at the Woodbridge Inn, near Pewsey, then an excellent run organise by Peter & Audrey Heywood (many thanks both) with TRs roaring through the Wiltshire and Berkshire countryside finishing some two hours later at our monthly meeting venue The Berkshire Arms, this is where our Dorset Group friends were to reside. That evening we had yet a more ample dinner and partook of some of the landlord’s finest beers and wines.
Strangely and very coincidentally (I don’t think) the West Berkshire Classic Car Show in support of Leukaemia was the following day at Newbury Racecourse, so everyone from both Groups with TS2 in attendance put on a superb show of TRs. Adding to this we were next door to the local TSSC which, by far, gave the longest line of single car manufacturer in the show, certainly a TRIUMPH, excuse the pun. The sun shone brightly and lunch was provided for all (again many thanks to all who contributed) and enjoyed under the shady Register easy-up, a donation of £100 was made to the good cause of Leukaemia support.
The next event for some members is of course Beaulieu Auto jumble, Windsor Classic Car Show, Malvern Classic Car show (11th October with Triumph bias) and our regular monthly (first Wednesday of month) and mid monthly meetings, please watch our calendar for the venues. As autumn is upon us, please note we now revert our mid monthly to Sunday lunch.
As you can see we are an active group and always welcome all members to come along to our meetings and join in the fun. TRaah for Now!
TR Action 237

As usual the summer months bring a host of KVG events. For the June mid monthly meeting the Group took over an American Diner for the evening. Elvis was there, of course, but the “General Lee” which was supposed to make an appearance had problems and did not arrive. However there was a substitute in the form of a Mustang to keep the American theme going. A great evening was had by all.
Last year’s barbecue was rained off, so this year weather forecasts were studied avidly, but in the end it was a lovely sunny afternoon with just a few dark clouds threatening. The barbecue was kept busy and everyone had an enjoyable day.
We had our normal spot at the International, met up with old friends and acquaintances, bought bits and as usual had a good time.
So we are now looking forward to our next event in early August which is our annual weekend with the Dorset Group, which includes a visit to the Newbury Leukemia car show on the Sunday when the two groups will have a combined stand. A report of this will appear in the next Social Scene.
