Triumph TR6. Registration Number: HOH 198L
Manufactured; 4th Jan 1973, Emerald Green with disc wheels, heater, overdrive, static seat belts, tonneau cover and wing mirrors.
Registered; 18th April 1973 in Birmingham to Austin Morris Grp, Longbridge. Retained by Austin Morris to the 24th November 1974.
The car was used for press photographs on the 3rd May 1973. John Barber was photographed with the car outside Longbridge factory when he was appointed deputy chairman under chairmanship of Lord Stokes of the Leyland board of directors.
The car had several owners after Leyland ownership and moved from South Wales to Essex to Sussex. It was acquired by Steve Baker in 1987 and was restored by him between 1988 and 1990. It was acquired by Les & Pene Staley on the 28th August 1990 with 87,000 miles on the clock, it’s now done 114,000. Over the past few years I have modified the metering unit to run on unleaded fuel. The overdrive packed up and has been replaced as have all the suspension bushes. The car is as manufactured including its Achilles heel the Lucas fuel pump which has occasionally given trouble in hot weather.
We have used the car for a number of long trips in the UK including Malvern (except 2007 luckily). We’ve also done a couple of trips to France including Laon Historique Rally. The car was again photographed at Malvern and featured in Triumph World.
