Despite some mixed weather, International Rescue had a quiet weekend this year. Thunderbird 2 got a long-overdue jetwash at the local ARC, Brains got some new specs from Boots and Virgil was well strung out all weekend.
Phil O'Hara , amongst others from our merry band, went along and has kindly sent this piece together with some pictures.......
"We had asked Lawrence and Jane Gray if we could tag along with them, as Lawrence knew the way, which we duly did along with Walter and Julia. So before we knew it, we had got us a convoy of two TR4a's a TR8 and a TR6.The only hitch to befall the group was the erratic behavior of the wipers on Walter’s TR8 which necessitated a stop for a rummage in the fuse box. Whatever he did it solved the problem.
On arriving Walter went off to camp with old friends from north of the border. Julia also had friends to camp with. Then there were two, so we camped in the quiet area to be joined by Malcolm and Anne Newman.
Tea was a barbie and beer, then off to the main building for the quiz hosted by Steve Redway, with Bill Piggott as question master.
You will be no doubt impressed with your representatives, ”The Missing Lincs”, who put up a spirited performance to emerge 3rd overall!
The heavens opened overnight but by morning the skies had cleared, so after breakfast it was off on the run/navigation test kindly organised by the local TR group. We had a great time charging down narrow byways to emerge at the top of the Cheviots, affording us a super panorama over the countryside including the Three Counties Showground.
On our return we met Paul and Andrea Smith who had journeyed from France, but unfortunately arriving deep into the night had to pitch outside the showground and join us on Saturday morning.
So off then to wander around the many trade stalls in search of bargains, of which there were many. Mission accomplished , a new rear hub assembly and some seals for me.
"A fine Malvern afternoon - the rain is coming straight down"
"Cloud Scene" or "Crowd Scene"?
Your author and his chariot in fine form and good company!
We went to cast our not so expert eyes over the concours vehicles also the pride of ownership cars. Having had our fill and resolving to do a much better job on our cars we went back to another barbie then on to the evening’s entertainment - “The Blues Brothers Reloaded” - to a mixed reception!
Sunday morning dawned with lovely sunshine , so time to decamp. With the TRs crammed to the gunnels we wandered over to the arena and marvelled over Dorettis, Italias, Doves and TRs, before we set off on the 151 mile return to Lincolnshire. We finished off an enjoyable weekend with a faultless run home in three and an half hours. Roll on the next run."
