Updates from our group, spares news
and information on motorsport
 round and about our area

A regular section, hopefully up-to-date, but if it's gone or has simply rusted away through the passage of time (these are Triumph parts after all), we apologise! Also group members cars for sale...............

Dave is back in 2012 having rearranged his chariot a couple of times last year. So a calendar of events will follow shortly..........

Any contributions in this section are more than welcome.....tall stories, photos, news, etc

Dave is currently beavering away getting ready for the 2009 season.

January 2009

A Happy New Year to all our readers!

“The trouble with bucket seats is that not everybody has the

same size bucket.”
                                                                              Anon

Another year out of the way and my, what a year. I have a friend who hates odd-numbered years, preferring the even-numbered ones. How he feels at the moment, I don’t know. Very anxious I expect. We will all have to keep our fingers crossed for 2009 and see how it goes. First job may be to check your buckets following the Christmas splurge, though.

TR Register AGM, November 23rd 2008

Regrettably, none of us made it to the Club AGM, but judging from feedback I have received, little if anything of real significance happened. The turnout wasn’t good, partly due to the weather warnings, and the agenda was pretty straightforward. The line-up of Club officers remains unchanged, but it was agreed to raise the annual subscription by £2.

                              Christmas Dinner
Our Christmas Dinner at The Turnor Arms this year went very well. There was certainly no shortage of food, and our hosts are to be congratulated on their efforts. More pictures on the website via the link at the end of this newsletter, but here are a few to be getting on with...........

A good evening was had by all, and very few went home empty-handed after the raffle. Cheryl did seem to get well into the spirit of things and later started warming up for the New Year sales with an enthusiastic assault on the “feely bag” from the outside!

An early Xmas present for one of our group did suggest that writing to Santa does indeed pay off sometimes........

I also need to add that Phil O'Hara did a grand job with the quiz - it kept everyone busy, with a lot of "team effort" for want of a better phrase!

Thank you for setting that up, and for the prizes, Phil.

                             Group 2009 AGM

An agenda for the group’s 2009 AGM will go out shortly. If you have any items to raise, you can sent them to me for inclusion, otherwise do chip in on the evening. We will be starting  at 8pm, at the usual watering-hole, The Turnor Arms, Wragby, on Monday 19th January.

If you have any dates/venues for activities you might like the group to consider for the calendar, bring them along. We still need to agree a good use for the £300-odd we have sitting in our bank account. Have a ponder on that one, and bring your thoughts along.
See you on the 19th!

                                       AND FINALLY..................

Dave MacDonald tells me he is looking for a couple of turrets for his new racecar. He asks that you all go and have a look around your sheds and see if you have anything suitable. Perhaps a leftover Tiger tank you would consider breaking for parts. Presumably any suitable munitions would also be welcome.
(Editor’s note: I’m not entirely sure this is in the true spirit of British motorsport, Dave)

The chicane just before Stalingrad proves a bit tricky

 2009 PROGRAMME

Monday January 19th
Regular evening meeting 8pm, Turnor Arms, Wragby. Includes the AGM, so do try to come along.

Details of the 2009 programme will circulated as soon as possible after the AGM.

CAPTION COMPETITION
The result from last month's newsletter........

"Is that your exhaust or has my crouton gone off?"

The winning line as selected from twelve excellent entries. A prize is set aside for Graham Eaton, the author, to pick up sometime. Nice one!

September 2008

“What about those red balls they have on car aerials so you can spot your car in a car park?  I think all cars should have them.”

                                                 Homer Simpson

Firstly apologies to you all, I’m getting left behind with the newsletter and website. Hopefully I will catch up soon. Quite a bit has happened since the last missive. Petrol prices up, up, up but coming back down (sort of), the Arctic is disappearing (again) and the Oil Wars continue (big surprise). On top of that the big banks have discovered sticking their snouts too deep in the trough can result in inhaling the contents by mistake. So we will be in for a lean time for a while. Perhaps now is the time to raise some cash by flogging off all that junk those valuable NOS parts you have tucked away in your garage/shed/hall cupboard/under the spare bed. Phone Bob “The Bolt” Smith, he’ll do the rest.

TR Register Summer Ball 2008

The inaugural Summer Ball at the Windermere Hydro, Bowness went very well indeed! The Cumbria Group have to be congratulated on extending the warmest of welcomes despite one of the wettest weekends of the summer. The car park was full of TRs from far and wide.

Despite the weather.......

..................we did manage to get out and about for some retail therapy.

The bash on the Saturday evening was excellent, and it was great to see how well we all brush up for a night out.

There will be more pictures on the Group website for you to enjoy, but in the meantime, here’s one for which I would like a caption..............

All entries to me via andy_kutarski@yahoo.co.uk for our November Bonfire Night meeting. A prize will be awarded for the best caption as judged by our Group Leader.

LED automotive lighting

Bob “The Bolt” Smith kindly forwarded me these web addresses for LEDs:

www.ultraleds.co.uk
www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk

www.selectronic-led-lights.co.uk
www.maplin.co.uk

Maplin’s site states that the bulbs that they offer are suitable for off road use only and are road ILLEGAL. I have ordered some bulbs from both of the first two sites to try them out. They aren’t cheap, but may do a better job in the forthcoming gloom than the ones I currently have in my dashboard and rear stop/tails units. Watch this space.

2008 PROGRAMME

The events over the next couple of months for the group

Sadly, Jane had to cancel the run on 28th September, due to lack of interest. Everyone seemed to be doing other things, including ourselves.

Have a look at the diary page for the next few events. Also catch up with Malcolm Brown about the Xmas Party if you haven't already.

THE MONTHLY MONDAY EVENING MEETING

There are various bits and pieces in this newsletter. Probably the most important communication for those who may have slipped through the net is that we are now meeting at the Turnor Arms, opposite the Market Place in Wragby. It has its own well-surfaced car park off the road, proper beer, food on Monday evenings, and most important of all a good setting for our expanding membership. (All old jokes gratefully received.) Same time as previously. There’s a map on the website and the details are in the latest TRAction. See you there.

                        Good Old Greenhouse Gases?

These two pictures give you some idea of how global warming has been affecting our weather recently. From one to the other in just over four weeks.

So if you would like to be able to make snowmen in June, or go for the shades and T-shirt look in March, please keep working on your greenhouse gas emissions. Raw materials are still freely available from retail outlets near you (albeit getting more expensive by the week!).

Northumbrian Long Weekend

This run, under the auspices of Dave Roach, still has some available slots at the time of writing. He has found accommodation and built an itinerary for the participants. All the details can be found on the events page. If you are keen to come along, get in touch with either:

Dave Roach on 01507 450066 or at daveroach@talktalk.net or

Jane Gray on 01507 450372 or at l-jgraymaltbyss@btconnect.com.

A Triumph by any other name

Lawrence Gray had a profitable weekend at the recent 2008 International Triumph (the other one)meeting at Woodhall Spa. His Trident won Best Meriden Triumph in Show. There’s a picture of our man and his machine in the Gallery. Nice one
Lawrence.

Number 78

Sadly, I have to report that Dave McD’s racing season has come to a premature end following a coming together with Mike Hughes in another TR at a recent Oulton Park outing. Thankfully neither was seriously injured, though Mike did need a CAT scan of his head and neck at the local hospital. Both cars require repairs, but hopefully both will be clambering back into their cockpits to race again. A speedy recovery to both of them.

 WORK IN PROGRESS

You may or (if you have been on a Mars mission) may not be aware of a certain unhappiness over the recent artistic efforts of one of our officers at HQ.

Even the latest edition of the mag has a little box with a related comment in it, and it seems this topic isn’t going to be put to bed. (The boy must have some Polish blood in him.)

Interestingly, we appear to have moved on from “hooters” to “bumpers” this month, even though the cars on the front cover are both  bumper-less and there is no article on aforementioned topic within.

We are planning a bit of a project to address the perceived artistic shortcomings of more “central” output. This cunning plan is in its infancy, but watch this space and get your shades ready for action. You have been warned!

Spring 2008

Spring must be coming ‘cos I can smell Valvemaster in the air.

                        OUTINGS
Congrats to all of you who have attended our last two Sunday get-togethers. We produced a modest but significant turnout of TRs for the first, and a much more impressive one on the 16th March. Both days a bit nippy, but Peter & Cheryl as well as Ann & Malcolm have both gone topless. Brrrr!

The February blast around the back roads to the Coach and Horses at Faldingworth reminded the public of their motoring heritage and the March run had significant educational value courtesy of Dixie Dean and his microbrewery at the Dog & Gun, East Butterwick. Pictures of both runs are to be found on the website shortly.

Oh, and to the “spotty yoof” in the red Clio near The Dolphin; when your nuts finally drop we all hope they get transfixed by your nappy pin.

The 2008 Calendar is well on the way to being in its final form and I will update it from time to time. One of our number is involved in a classic car club up in the north of the county, and I have suggested that we post some of their activities for information. The next few TR Lincs events are to be found below, but keep an eye out for emails and on the website.

                       MOTORSPORT
Dave McDonald has sent a complete list of TR-related circuit racing, but you may have spotted the information on a page in the last TR Action. I will try to get a link on our website for that information. With the demise of the Register/TSSC in-house championship, I hope the other series do get a bit of a boost to their endeavours. Dave’s first outing is on Easter Monday at Donington Park.

              BOB SMITH'S SPARES NEWS
You may have been trying to avoid the ever-lengthening list of things you might like to do around the house (you know, “when you have a moment”) and have started to attend important but regrettably lengthy conferences with the spiders in your garage.

If you are out there, considering how to get that sofa and TV installed, but are a bit short of space, how about moving on some of your unwanted TR bits and pieces via our Spares Secretary Bob Smith on 01406 365233 or via rjsmith124@aol.com is your man.

Your items will appear in his Spares News, which he regularly emails out, as well as appearing on the website.

February 2008

Been furtling away in the garage? Not long until Spring will be upon us. For those of us mad enough to take the cars out in the recent frosts, there’s been plenty of black ice about to practice our slides on, and muck on the roads to hose off at the weekend. Sugar beet?......love the stuff. Including the odd bunch of escapees lying on a dark country road!

Those of you who  visit our website will have read about the proceedings of the 2008 AGM, and will be aware that Jane Gray is our new Group Leader, Malcolm Brown continues as Treasurer (he hasn’t finished his extension yet), Bob Smith remains our Spares Secretary and I have taken over from Anne Newman as secretary.  I propose starting a section with everyone on a page of their own with some photos. I've cheated and copied Rodder's entry from last month into the Gallery as a start.

As previously raised, we would like to reduce the outward flow of paper and mailshots as much as possible. To that end, we have had a trawl for everyone’s details including email addresses, thank you to all that have replied so far. A letter will be going out to non-responders and those we can track down. There will be some who prefer the traditional methods, and we are happy to accede to their wishes. So far it’s been the regular faces we’ve caught up with, but another more comprehensive mailshot may be required to get at those shy, retiring types out there. the Newsletter will also go out in an email version to ensure good coverage.

                                        2008 PROGRAMME
This is still in preparation, hopefully finalised at our next meeting. The Newmans are your contact for the next Sunday event, as given below.

18th February

Regular Monday Meeting at the Crossroads Inn, East Barkwith

24th February

Sunday Lunch Meeting Meet for food, drink and a natter at The Coach
and Horses, High Street, Faldingworth, Market Rasen .
Contact Anne Newman on 01652 628382. Numbers for lunch required.

17th March

Regular Monday Meeting at the Crossroads Inn, East Barkwith

The first newsletter for 2008 is all about changes. Jane Gray and myself have been getting together and trying to work out how best to make sure everyone is kept informed and made to feel part of the activities we will be doing this year. We are here for you, and would like to get your views and suggestions.

For instance, I'd like to keep all this online and stop the paper newsletter. I've been asking for email addresses and other information, thanks to those who have replied so far. We will be sending out some letters to others, but time is at a premium and I would be keen to keep future paperwork to a minimum (perhaps just the annual programme). Your views?

So I'm at andy_kutarski@yahoo.co.uk

and Jane is at l-jgraymaltbyss@btconnect.com.

Let's be hearing from you!

The 2008 AGM minutes and Malcolm Newman's last report as Group Leader are to be found by clicking on "Read More". In addition, Rodney Barbour has finally found himself in print in the March editon of Triumph World, and both he and his car be found in the "Usual Suspects" section of the Gallery.

Dave McDonald has also done a piece which is to be found at the top of the page under the Competitions section, and if Bob Smith is agreeable (isn't he always?), the Spares News will be found regularly on the front page  too.
