In January 2010, Denis started a TR2 restoration project that would make many another mortal man cringe with fear. A project that he'd stored for 20 years with the promise to restore it during his retirement. Now retired, Denis set himself the target of a 12 month restoration ..... and now in January 2011 that target has been reached and what a fantastic result Denis has created. Take a look at the following photos and enjoy!
In 1989 Terry embarked on a lengthy 4 year restoration of this (now) immaculate 1964 TR4. It is one of the last TR4s built and incorporates many TR4a parts. During the life of the car it had been exported to Switzerland, then registered in France before finally being returned to the UK in 1973 ...... Where it was subsequently left to rot in a field. In 1989 Terry started the restoration. Air vent seal failure caused major corrosion of the main bulkhead and floor pans. Basic press tools were made to reproduce unavailable panels. Terry completed the work in August 1993 having done all of the work, including paint spraying by himself at his home.
Before I bought what I saw as my dream machine TR6, I had a 1979 Spitfire 1500, which I drove everyday for 2 and half years. A few months after the death of my Spitfire I found a 1969 Royal Blue G reg TR6 on eBay. It’s not everyday your going to see one of the first 100 UK fuel injection TR6s for sale. The car was fitted with a carb American 104bhp engine, but the original UK 150bhp engine was included in the sale! After a look around for rust, and getting a very good asking price for the car, I bought her.
I took the car on its first long outing in August 2009 to the TR Register open day and the head blew. We nursed the car to event and back home. Over the course of 9 months, I rebuilt the car with its original UK 150bhp fuel injection engine, and have had loads of fun with it ever since.
