TR Action 241

A belated Happy New Year to One and All, apologies for missing the last Social Scene and this one was not supposed to be here either, but now that it is I will carry on.

First things first; I have been Group Leader for two years now and the position is up for re-election again, anyone interested? I appreciate that last year I perhaps did not fulfil my obligations too well and was more reactive than proactive. This year I am pleased to advise that the builders have finally finished and life is slowly returning to normality. Six months of brick dust, rubble and living in only two rooms at any one time is an experience to be endured only once. So, if you are interested in the position of Group Leader, please make yourself known to myself or Duncan Jolly. Otherwise, I guess it will be me again and I will try harder through 2010.

So, moving on, New Event Calendar. It is coming along nicely although always room for more. We will have the Drive it Day on the 25th April which may involve a Run to the Sun and Fish ‘n Chips by the Sea, nothing finalised as yet and suggestions welcome. In May we might have a weekend away tied in with the Standard Triumph Marque Day at Prescott. June sees the Standard Triumph Rally at Wicksteed Park and July has something for every weekend; TR Drivers International, Le Mans, Kimbolton Classic Car Show and then The TR Register International which clashes with the Silverstone Classic. Following on we have Duxford, Goodwood, etc. etc. I’ll let you know more in hopefully, good time. If the ladies of the group have any suggestions for days out then we are always listening.

Following my logo appeal a couple of months ago, two people came forward and offered their services; my thanks to Phil (last seen standing on the M40 with Steve) and Henry (car seen the last time I penned blurb). I must make mention of www.pauleycreative.co.uk in Milton Keynes who specialise in graphic design and have professionally redone our group logo free of charge. Logo will be splashed around when time permits.

Finally, we had many new members last year and I have tried to contact everyone at one point or another but I know I have not managed to speak to everyone. If you have not spoken to me or you have not received an e-mail recently, then please mail me at noscaasit@hotmail.co.uk to introduce yourself and receive updates. I would also like to remind everyone that we meet at The Lilacs in Isham on the second Sunday of the month from 8pm onwards, TR not essential.

That’s it for now and hope to see you somewhere soon.

TR Action 239

Hello again. I am pleased you are reading this; it was late again but obviously not too late…
Ok, I will be the first to admit it; I put my roof up. I did put it down again though. A beautiful autumn day, crisp with the odd cloud and it was too good to turn down. Chilly but still brought a smile. It has been a good year but the car is parked up for winter now.

Unfortunately the games night organized by Camb Followers was cancelled, and by the time you read this we will have had the last run out and that is it for this year. I am sure there are still a few hardy individuals but for the rest of us wimps – it is maintenance time.

Last issue I mentioned Steve and his pit stops / early winter maintenance. Following on from this I am delighted to advise that Steve has offered to look after the Nene Valley website. Steve has no experience in these matters but he is willing to give it a go and that’s what counts. If you have any material or suggestions then please e-mail me initially and I can forward it on. Quite rightly, Steve does not want his e-mail address available to everyone at this stage. I do not think the web site will change overnight, as we are all learning here.

It has been quite busy recently in Practical Classics as well. Did anyone notice Phil and his MG Maestro in the Ferrari comparison? Phil is a ‘fairly’ regular and has a TR6 as well (last spotted in TR Action 238 stood alongside Steve at a pit stop). A future feature will be Henry’s TR3. I was contacted by Practical Classics who were looking for a TR3 or 3A for a planned feature. I put this out to all known members owning such vehicles and let the bun fight begin. It would appear that Henry was first out of the blocks although Mark was close behind. Attached should be a photograph of Henry’s fine looking specimen. I understand that Mark’s car is lined up for another future feature in Classics and Sports Car. I will let you know more if I know.

Other than that, Christmas is a matter of weeks away. Has everyone written their letters to Santa and what are you hoping he / she brings this year?

The Nene Valley Christmas dinner will be held sometime in January, nothing decided as yet but I will keep you posted. That is it till next time; hope to see you somewhere soon.

TR Action 238

Hello again.

Well it is starting to get chilly now and it may be time to think about putting the roof up for winter. The last of this year's events is just about done and I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Great day at Knebworth, bumped into a few Nene (Vallers or Valleyers?) members who had unfortunately turned up in something other than a TR; Paul, a TR5 and you turn up in your mates car. Brian, get yourself a TR - I know the fridge won’t fit.

I do not know how things progressed at Earls Barton but I did hear they stopped taking exhibitors as it was completely full. Group meeting soon so I will find out then and hopefully we can recap everything through the winter months. I think the only thing left is the classic car show at the NEC in November. Excellent news though as we can now get onto those winter jobs we have been saving all year…

One or two of you may have started your winter maintenance already, new member Steve was quite eager and began by stripping down the engine for a quick rebuild back in September. The rebuild was planned to take place over winter but a quick pit stop on: the A34, the M40, Cherwell Valley services, the A43… could be more but it has all blurred into one massive pit-stop, as a result of a cracked cylinder head which necessitated an early start. Attached is a photograph of a smiling Steve on the M40, little did he know there would be tears before bedtime. I understand the work is progressing well but if you need any assistance then John H is the man to speak to; he rebuilt his engine twice this year due to a cracked block overlooked by a local engineering company. He is becoming quite an expert now.

We have had quite a few new members this year and I have tried to contact everyone, existing and new. If we have not spoken yet then it means I have tried but could not get through for one reason or another, please call me or drop me a mail to ensure you know what is happening and when. Whether you join in with the group or go your own way is totally up to you but you should at least know what is going on.

Finally, have a look at this link when you have a moment: www.groups.tr-register.co.uk/nene-valley. Ok, put you name forward if you looked, you are the new person responsible for its maintenance.

That is it till next time, hope to see you somewhere soon.
