Northumbria Update.

We are well into the 2008 season now and have just completed a busy May TR programme.  All day run to Lakes on 5th, Falkirk Wheel on 26th, and back to the Borders for Thirlestane Show on 1st June.  Together with the two Wednesday meetings this meant that anyone who made all five events has certainly contributed his share of fuel tax and eaten well into the insurance annual mileage allowance.

The  experience of these runs has brought about a re-think regarding the planned run to Distington Vintage Rally in Cumbria, on 6th July.  As this is another 100 ml. Stretch, and given the need to be on site early for a show, it would be a big ask combined with the other events of July; the Karting night, Le Mans Classic, Newby Hall and the International, making July a bit over ambitious.  I have therefore spoken to John Morrison the Cumbria Group Leader who organises this and apologised for our change of heart.  It would have been good to put on a big display with them and perhaps we can bear this in mind for next year with a schedule that is not so gruelling alongside the Distington date.

The quiz with Cleveland Group has become a regular on our calender. For those suffering withdrawal symptoms thinking we missed it in the spring, I have spoken to Graham Lowe and we will fit it in at the back end of the year.  Its a good one for a cold dark night to give a break from lying under the TR doing the winter servicing.

Coming Up

A short convoy run starting at 7.30 from the Skiff on Wednesday 4th June as our 1st Wednesday meeting and  Kings Head in Lanchester on Wednesday 18th should make for a relatively quiet month to allow a bit of fettling before an enthusiastic July.

July 2nd is the Karting night at Warden Law outdoor Karting Centre.  Sean, (seantindletr@hotmail.co.uk), is organising this and we need spectators as well as drivers.  He needs to know the numbers urgently if you want to drive so if you have'nt been in touch contact him to let him know.  After the thrills and spills we'll retire to the Copt Hill pub which is just along the road from the Karting Centre.

Message from Sean,

Just a reminder we have the Karting Night booked on 2nd July at Warden Law outside track, cost £37, and there are a couple of places left.

Anyone interested please get in touch.  It is our normal meeting night so why not come along anyway, before we make our way to the Copt Hill Pub afterwards.

Anyone karting needs to be there for 6.30, racing starts at 7.00pm

July 6th we still are spoilt for choice. Clive Elsdon has invited TR owners to his 'bar-b- cue' for MR2 Drivers at his residence at Wolsingham.  Let him know if you are going at(
clive@cliveelsdon.co.uk), there is a Classic Show at Corbridge by MG Northumbria and Jaguar Enthusiasts have a Classic day at Wallington Hall in Northumberland.

Castle Howard weekend in Yorkshire,  run by Wharfedale Group is also on this weekend,.  Details on their web site.
The weekend of 11th to 13th we have cars going to Le Mans Classic as have many other groups so if you're going it could be worth comparing notes to get together for the run down and the event.

Robin Hood on the Military road is the location of the second Wednesday meet on 16th.

18th to 20th is the big one, the International at Malvern.  Weather permitting, (as in, remember last year), there will be a convoy form Northumbria keeping up our good attendance record.  Again, if you are going, compare notes at the next meetings and join the convoy.

Also on that weekend, Sunday 20th the Newby Hall show is on.  You need to send in an application form before Friday 27th June.  I have some you can have if you get in touch.  If you're not going to Malvern this is certainly the best show in our area.

Another big one is the Register Lakes weekend when Paul Tunnadine takes convoy runs to places even the sheep do'nt go.   Its extra special for those who've experienced it so start planning now in your diary.  Weekend of 5th September.  Newby Bridge at the South end of Windermere is the location.
