TR Action 255

We are now approaching the dark TR-less months of the year. Pretty bleak except for a New Year Run on the 2nd January, which will have taken place by the time this issue of TR Action has been published. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us and the roads are free of salt.
Our Quiz took place at the November Meeting. David Rhodes put us through our paces on food and drink, television, what connects, and cars and motoring. Bill and Anne Redrobe’s team came out on top after a penalty shoot-out to collect the Bright Spark Trophy.
The Events Meeting the following week was well attended. We soon had a full and interesting calendar with something for everybody, shows, runs, weekends, race meetings, to mention but a few. Please refer to www.redrosetrs.co.uk for full details.
If you were not there you will have missed the Christmas Buffet on 11th December. The same goes for the AGM on 8th January and if you did not attend you had better make sure you have not been elected to any positions in your absence.
Meanwhile my TR (DUD) should be in the midst of having new wings, door skins, sills, and a respray to be ready for next season. It deserves a spruce up after fifteen years of abuse.
TR Action 254

By the time you read this report the clocks will have gone back, we will have had bonfire night and we will be looking forward to Christmas. Where did the summer go? Our September meeting at the Antrobus was reasonably well attended and afterwards several cars drove over to Highleigh Garden Centre as they were holding a classic car rally.
Chris and Sandra organized the Autumn Leaves Run, which had brilliant weather. Twenty seven cars set off in two convoys for Bakewell, Derbyshire. The second convoy somehow managed to over take the first and will be the subject of an enquiry. In Bakewell there was a picnic in the car park followed by a stroll along the river and through the town. On the way back there was a stop at the Cock and Pheasant, Bollington for a meal. A grand day out with no breakdowns.
The October meeting was held earlier than usual due to the room being booked. The early start enabled us to have time for a run to Jodrell Bank Radio Telescope and then visit Ann and John Thorp’s new house at Goostrey for afternoon tea.
Several Red Rose cars ventured over the border for the Wharfedale Autumn Leaves Run. There was a huge turn out for the event with East Riding and Red Rose prominent. We were not disappointed as the weather just about held out and we were able to enjoy the fantastic views afforded by the route through the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Lunch at the Queens Arms was extremely well organized and relaxed. Many thanks to Wharfedale and particularly John and Jean Hussey.
Oon 13th November we have out Quiz when David Rhodes will once again be testing our knowledge (or lack of it). The Events Meeting is on the 20th where we hope there will be some new ideas as to how we should be making the most of our TRs.
May we at Red Rose wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Since our last report we have had a very busy period starting with the IWE at Harrogate. Although I was not able to make it myself I hear that the event was much more interesting and car orientated with the Harewood hill climb, Autosolo and Russ Smith driving demonstration.
Not many attended the Woodvale Show the first weekend in August but those who did enjoyed the breakfast provided by Mike and Pauline Grimes and were then able to savour a fly past by The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with the Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane. The following week was our Chester Boat Trip, which we enjoyed every bit as much as when we last did it two years ago. Most people stayed overnight then took a scenic route over to the Antrobus meeting on the Sunday. Over forty attended the Antrobus for a chat and update of events, holidays and all things TR. Tatton Classic Car Show on 20/21st August was successful although we failed to win our usual quota of prizes except for the stand. The organizers must be taking pity on the other makes as I noticed a tatty Austin A35 had been given an award.
For a Thursday run John and Jane Leleu organized a visit to Erddig House via the Horseshoe Pass. We had a conducted tour of the grounds and were then free to explore the house. Afterwards we drove over to John and Jane’s for a barbeque the weather just about holding out . Many thanks for an interesting day. Tickets for the Bank Holiday Gold Cup Meeting at Oulton Park although on the last minute as usual did arrive in time as everybody who wanted to go made it this year. Several cars traveled north for the Lakes Weekend based at Cartmel. The weather was horrendous on the Saturday and brilliant on the Sunday. Over sixty cars took part and the finish on Sunday at the Brackenrigg Inn overlooking Ullswater was certainly memorable for the stunning views.
We have the Autumn Leaves Run on 2nd October and there is an invitation for us to join the Wharfedale one on the 16th. Indications are that several cars will be making the hazardous trek over the border.
