Hi Everybody
,
I should like to elaborate on a couple of items recently raised by Jon Gordon and also mention some other subjects:- TVG – Event Co-ordinator – As mentioned at the AGM and in my email of 1st April Last, Jon Gordon has very kindly volunteered to fill this position. Now, this is a new departure for TVG and I’m sure the role will evolve over the next few months, but the title of ‘Event Co-ordinator’ was chosen for a reason and Jon is NOT to be regarded as an Event Organiser, (unless he and Frances choose to organise something for TVG – see the note below concerning the trip to Shalford Mill).
At present I see Jon’s role as providing liaison between members concerning their interest in attending Events as listed on the BrmmBrmm and TR Register websites, together with other activities as outlined in my note of 1st April.
I would therefore urge all members to advise Jon if they will be attending any of the aforementioned Events. This is of particular importance so far as the ‘International’ is concerned since Dave Rigg and Belinda have once again volunteered to run the TVG B-B-Q on the Saturday evening. Format as before whereby you bring some grillable meat, your own cutlery, crockery, glasses and alcohol. Dave and Belinda will provide salads etc for which the charge will be £2 per head, but for this to work they need to know numbers involved – please advise Jon.
Shalden Fete, Sunday 22nd June
– Last year Gay and I and a number of TVG members arranged a picnic and attended this archetypal English village Fete which is held at Shalden Park Farm. Shalden is some 3 miles north of Alton in very attractive countryside and the Fete is held in a private local garden. Last year, the TRs formed the principal exhibit at the Fete as they were parked very prominently just inside the entrance. Mike and Helen Griffiths play a large part in the organisation of the event and would welcome a further visit by TVG. They are aware the timing is not good in the light of TVG activities, but Mike has promised a free glass of Pimm’s (or something similar) from the Wine Bar (which he runs!) to all TR drivers and passengers. The Fete opens officially at 2pm, but TRs are welcome to arrive a little before. If you are interested in attending please notify Jon – further details are available from Mike Griffiths on 01420-85947.
Bletchingley Village Fete, Sunday 29th June
– Dave Goswell and Janet have been regular supporters of TVG over the last few years and they also have considerable input to this Fete. The Fete coincides with our Barley Mow meeting and I would be disappointed if a few TVG TRs were not able to travel to Bletchingley to put on a mini Classic Car Show. Gay and I will be at the Barley Mow but will probably leave at about 1pm to travel to Bletchingley. Dave assures me there will be some drinkable ale and hot food available, so will hope to see a few of you at Bletchingley for a couple of hours.
Visit to Shalford Mill, Monday 7th July
– Details of this trip were given in Jon Gordon’s e-mail of 15th May. Jon has now confirmed the price of the tour is £3 per person (including NT members) – if you have not done so already, please confirm your interest to Jon. The
Grange Festival, Bookham, Saturday 12th July
– I decided to attend this function on a personal basis and Alan Warburton, Mervyn Rogers and Henry Beavon have decided they would like to join me! Entry on a Club basis is very limited, but if you would like to be included, please let me know by Saturday 7th June and I will organise a ‘Club’ entry – first come – first served! There is no charge for entry which is up to 10 am – no vehicles may leave until 4pm. You will be aware that the Woking Hospice Classic Car Show took place last Sunday and despite a slightly dodgy weather forecast TVG produced no less than 15 TRs. It was a most enjoyable day, topped off by the fact that Don Streatfield’s immaculate TR6 won the ‘Best in Show’ award. Now, it must be said that a TVG car has won this award for three out of the last four years, due possibly to the voting activities of certain senior members of TVG (the Mafia!). However, we all felt Don was a very worthy winner and attached below is a note that Don sent me on the subject.
Cheers for now
Geoff
---------------------------------
It was good of you all to put my car up for the award for the Woking Classic show especially as there are others in the group who should also win prizes, and I know that we have --shall we say--contributed to the balance of votes, and we have "won" on three occasions now.I consider this award really as a testament to the great spirit in TVG and it will always be considered as that by me.I would also like you to know that when faced with a microphone and the job of thanking everyone all you can think of saying is ‘Thank you’ ---what a wimp!!
Regards
Don
