TR Action 228

They say never volunteer for anything but I did – ‘Silly boy’ said Robin. Here goes then with my first ‘Social Scene’.
Although some individual members have been out and about to events such as the Winter Ball, Gurston Down hillclimb and the Standard Triumph gathering at Prescott, Sunday June 1st saw our first formal show organised by Woking Hospice. This has now become a regular annual event but with a reputation for being inclement. However, this year was dry with sun/cloud. Fifteen cars were booked in and all looked in fine fettle - in particular, our leader, Geoff Keeble’s TR4 was resplendent in its all over Powder Blue, ‘panel off’ respray with greatly improved shut lines. Despite this, it was Don Streatfield’s red TR6 that scooped the ‘Visitors Choice Trophy’. Something fishy going on here as Alan Warburton’s TR4A won last year. Thanks again to Don for nurturing the gazebo over the winter months and bringing it for its first outing of the year.
I heard from an undisclosed source (Jean Parkinson) that Peter Rock’s long term TR6 rebuild has ‘moved under its own steam.’
Commiserations to Henry Beavon and club mascot, Crispin for the immobilisation of their TR6 as a result of the now infamous three rivet clutch –be warned.
Whilst on the commiseration front, Mervyn Rogers reported failure within his TR6’s injection system apparently resulting in major over-richening, I understand that the cause has been found and repairs are in hand.
Why is it that when two or more TR6 owners are gathered together the inevitable discussions seem to revolve around the vagaries of their injection system? However, helpful comments like ‘Have you thought of carburettors as an alternative’ tend to fall on deaf ears.
Geoff Keeble’s newsletter published 3rd June identifies in some detail forthcoming activities but should you require any further information then Events Co-0rdinator, Jon Gordon, is probably the best person to contact in the first instance.
‘Who’s taking what spares/tools’ is resonating around the group leaving for Norway on 9th June as realisation, especially for those that didn’t go two years ago, that at the time of writing this, there are three days to go. More commiserations this time to Alan & Pauline Warburton who have had to withdraw at the last minute. Organizer Bruce Colman, alias Chief Troll has guaranteed perfect weather, even if he has not advised he will fix his smoking engine – follow him at your peril. We will let you know on our return.
For those members considering attending the Goodwood Revival 19th to 21st September, they should note that what was the pre ‘66 reserved car park (the best car show you are ever likely to see in GB) has now become the ‘Road Fund Exempt car park’, effectively for pre ’73 cars. For those that haven’t been before, I can unreservedly recommend this event as a ‘must go’.
Happy and safe TRavelling.
TR Action 227
Our AGM coincided held on the 27th April produced a very good attendance. Despite the washout at Malvern and a couple of unfortunate and serious breakdowns on the Brittany TRip, TVG had once again enjoyed a very successful year in 2007, which was topped off by the 24 hours we spent in the company of TS2. It is also very good to see the regular appearance of new faces (and their TRs of course) at our meetings.
Surprisingly, there was no desperate rush to topple the current incumbents from the positions of Treasurer and Chairman, so Alan Charlwood and yours truly were duly re-elected. It was suggested that the position of the Chairman and the future prospects for the Group would be improved if TVG was in future to be run on a Committee basis. This was agreed by the membership and, in addition to the Chairman and Treasurer, the Committee will include Alan Warburton, Robin Powell (Webmaster) and Jon Gordon (Event Co-ordinator).
Jon Gordon’s role is not that of an Event Organiser, but to provide liaison and if necessary assistance to members in connection with Events, attended by either members or TVG on a ‘Group’ basis and to that end, all members are asked to notify Jon of any Events on our Calendar that they are thinking of attending.
Tim Harding very kindly volunteered to assist in the production of the TR Action Reports – his offer is most welcome and gratefully accepted.
In addition to the Shows at Woking Hospice (1st June) and Cranleigh (17th August) it seems there will be some TVG representation at Staplefield (26th May) and The Grange, Bookham (12th July). It would also be much appreciated by Dave Goswell and Janet if a few TVG TRs could spend a couple of hours at the Bletchingley Fete (good beer and grub.) on the 29th June.
TVG will of course be represented at the ‘International’ on 18th-20th July where Dave and Belinda will be running a B-B-Q on the Saturday evening. They have also volunteered a further Autumn B-B-Q and the suggestion is that it is once again held at Wittering – does anyone have alternative thoughts for a venue?
There were also suggestions for three one-day trips during the Summer – details are to be confirmed, but if you would like further information and are not on my circulation list, please forward your contact details.
Following the likely change of ownership of the Barley Mow, it seems possible we shall have to seek a new venue for our Sunday meetings – so, if you are thinking of visiting for the first time it would be wise to contact me first.
To finish on a completely different subject, John Andon has once again spent a small fortune on his TR4 Race Car during the winter – engine re-build and re-spray. However, at present his financial efforts seem to be bringing rewards since he finished second and overall third in the first two meetings of the Equipe GTS season – well done John.
TR Action 226

A reasonably bright day resulted in twenty five TRs appearing at the Barley Mow on the last Sunday of February – an excellent attendance for early in the season, even though two or three well known faces and cars were missing.
Dates of shows or events we shall be attending on a ‘Group’ or more individual basis have now been finalised and details are shown on the Events Diary sections of both our brmmbrmm and TR Register Groups Portal websites. If you cannot access these sites but would like the Events Schedule please give me a ring.
I should like to take this opportunity to thank Robin Powell, Ian Brown and TR Register Head Office for the work they put in to our Register website, which has been fully functional since early March. I am also grateful to Robin for greatly improving and keeping updated our brmmbrmm site, which we decided to retain as it has received more than 66,000 ‘hits’ in its life.
For some TVG members, the most important date this year will be Monday 9th June when seven TRs will be embarking on TVG’s second TRip to Norway, once again led by Bruce and Ellinor Coleman. I’m sure we all wish them a trip equally as successful in all respects as the one in 2006 and look forward to reading about it sometime after their return.
Another event to mention is Dunsfold ‘Wings and Wheels’ to be held on Sunday 24th August. If you haven’t yet contacted me would you please do so as soon as possible as there is a deadline for entries.
Reverting to tours and trips, I am pleased to report that Don Streatfield has presented TVG with two two-way radios that may be used all over Europe. They can be very useful, even in the UK, but particularly in Europe where mobile ‘phone charges are sometimes not as reasonable as one would wish.
Finally, our AGM is now scheduled for Sunday 27th April (not the 20th as previously stated). It will once again be held in the Malting House at the Barley Mow and starts at 1pm.
Will look forward to seeing you at the AGM if not earlier.
