TR Action 257

We held our AGM on February 7th combined with our monthly meeting. The official positions remain the same i.e. STAN LOWE Group Leader, KEN BAILEY Deputy Group Leader and JOHN HUSSEY Treasurer for another twelve months. A copy of the Minutes is available on request.
At the end of January four Wharfedalers spent a walking weekend on the North East Coast at Beadnell. John & Jean Hussey, Jean & Stan along with four friends enjoyed three days of good weather; the only down side was I suffered from some nasty blisters!
March 4th was Ken’s Ten Pin Bowling at Shipley followed by lunch at The Noble Comb Shipley. We had a good turn out. Once more Keith George took Gold with 154 points, and the Silver went to Kenny Hudson with 144 points; John Hussey claimed the Bronze with 115 points. My score is best not mentioned.
When this is published we will have resumed our monthly evening dinners - the first one is on March 27th at the Wharfedale Inn, Atherton. Future dates and venues will be on our web site.
John and Stan will attend the Group Leaders meeting at Gaydon on the 11th March. I will report on this at the next meeting.
After years of my pointing out the advantages of electronic ignition a few more members are taking the plunge having decided that it is pointless (sorry) to carry on with the old points and condenser system and so are updating to Electronic. This could mean less break downs this year…. Watch this space.

We are still quiet here in West Yorkshire, but no doubt once these dark cold months are over we will be up and ready for the spring and the early runs.
We held our Christmas / New Year dinner last week at the DON’T TELL TITUS Restaurant in Saltaire. The food was excellent, the service was spot on. No disco this year! This was a refreshing change to the norm and allowed for conversation.
Our February meeting was also going to be our AGM; unfortunately it fell on the 14th which is of course Valentines Day. The Woolpack is holding a romantic evening, not an ideal setting for the AGM and so we have rescheduled the meeting one week earlier to the 7th February. Of course when you read this the AGM will be over and done with.
On a personal front my TR has not been out of the garage this last year; in fact it has not been off the lift. This was due to my illness during the year and I apologise for not being able to attend all the meetings last year. One thing I would like to point out is the advice I received from Towergate Insurance. I saw no point in insuring the car for twelve months knowing that I would not be able to use It, so I rang Towergate and they were very helpful. For a greatly reduced fee they insured my car for fire, theft and malicious damage for the year then renewed my policy this year without any interruption to my record. Thanks to the girls at Towergate.
Our Castle Howard Week End clashes with the Le Mans Classic this year; unfortunately we cannot move our booking. I know some members are disappointed, myself included.
We will resume our monthly evening dinners in March.
We have a few new TR Register members in the area - if you are a new member why not come along to one of our meetings? You would be most welcome. Full details are on our web site and in TR Action.

Mike Sloan and I attended the AGM at Gaydon in November. As you know Mike has stood down from his position as North West Co-ordinator. At the AGM the TR Register presented him with an award in recognition for his services. We at Wharfedale add our thanks and congratulate him on his Clubman’s award. Mike is a valued Wharfedale member and will, I hope, continue to contribute to our group’s activities.
The AGM was my first visit to the Heritage Centre at Gaydon. What a wonderful museum it is. I was pleasantly surprised not only by the exhibits but the superb way in which they are presented. If you find yourself in the area the museum is well worth a visit, but do allow plenty of time to really enjoy it.
At the time of writing (November) we have not yet held an events meeting or set the date for our AGM. These dates will be announced January and will be posted on our website.
On behalf of Ken and myself, we wish you all a belated Happy New year.
Footnote by Ken Bailey, deputy Group Leader: I am sure everyone in Wharfedale would want to congratulate Stan after he was presented at the AGM with a TR Register Gold Award. It is good that the Register recognises the hard work and dedication Group Leaders put in behind the scenes as well as leading their group. Stan says he is very proud and honoured to receive the award.
