Having seen a TR2 at work and for reasons not known to me fell instantly under its charms. I bought TS 8556/0 a short door very late car from a fellow Electrician in about 1970 and spent four years repairing rather than restoring the car. Then due to a larger family had to sell it and I have been unable to find it again, but often regretted over the years having sold it
Thus in my late Fifties, I needed a project and it had to be another Two. This time I wanted an earlier car and bought TS 1144, a long door early model. This came as a total basket case and really made me learn a lot of new skills, but I enjoy the challenges of doing all the work myself. During this Three year restoration, I sent many restoration articles to our magazine and even had a six page article and front page picture in the “Practical Classic “magazine.
Having a running car left me wanting another project and it seemed sensible to have a TR4A, as it’s the modern Two mechanically. Luckily it was possible to build another garage for my Two to live in.
Locally in Sheffield I found a late TR4A, that had been in England all its life and although it had a reasonable body, the chassis was rotten. This has now after three years reached the painting stage that will all be done by me at home.
My brother Paul also bought a TR2 and TR4A, and is rebuilding them at his home, this has given us both many hours of good TR companionship.
Hopefully in 2008 the brothers “Bowns” with both their cars will be going to many of the events and we will see you there.
