THE WHITE ROSE TR GROUP NEWS LETTER 1st April 2008
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We had our 1st trip out on the 8th march to Racetorations at Gainsborough. I must say that we had an excellent turnout of 13 members & 2 non members. Daryl of Racetorations was an exceedingly good host and obviously knows his TR s. The quality and workmanship provided for his customers has to be seen to be believed. I personally fell in love with the grey TR2 he is restoring. You can see pictures of the visit in the gallery section.
After our tour we repaired to the Mayflower in Austerfield where I live and all had a few pints and sandwiches. All in all I think a very enjoyable and successful day out.
On Saturday 12th April we have another trip this time to TR Enterprises at Blidworth. Steve Hall who owns the company will give us a guided tour round his premises. Steve like Daryl at Racetorations carries out full restorations and prepares TR s for fast road use and rallying. His speciality of course is rallying, and he is well known in the rallying world for his exploits with his TR4,and recently his TR7.I remember a few years ago when their was a TR register race championship seeing both Steve and his father mixing with other TR s on the race track at circuits such as Cadwell Park and Mallory park.
I am sure that you will agree with me that if this 2nd trip is ½ as good as our first one then we are again in for a cracking day.
At our March meeting which was again a cracker the vote was carried to hold our annual dinner ( it used to be known as our Xmas dinner but we have moved on ) at the Brecon Hotel Moorgate Rd Rotherham on the 6th May start time 7.30 for 8.00pm.
Lincolnshire TR group have sent me details of their Great North Run on Sunday 11th May. See website for details.
I have also obtained details of 3 trips to visit a race circuit to watch TR s in anger on the race track.
The 1st at Donnington Park on the 13th April admission £12.00
The 2nd at Mallory Park on the 25/26th May admission £12.00
The 3rd at Cadwell Park on the 6/7 September admission £12.00
WOULD MEMBERS KINDLY NOTE
---------------------------------------------------
I need confirmation of attendance of these events as follows
TR Enterprises at this meeting
Annual dinner at this meeting
Donnington Park at this meeting
Mallory Park at next meeting
Cadwell Park August meeting
Cheers
Peter
At our May meeting it was suggested that we have a trip to Mallory Park
racing circuit Leicestershire to have a day seeing TR s versus
Jags/Healeys etc in anger around this race circuit.
The dates sugested are Sunday 25th May 2008 & Monday 26th May 2008.
After contacting Mallory Circuit I can inform you of the following.
Sunday Admission prebooked £10.00 on the day £12.00
Monday ---------- ---------- £10.00 ---------- £12.00
Start time practice 9.30am race start 1.00pm both days
Finish time approximately 5.30pm both days
There are Burger/icecream vans on site but I always take along a packed
lunch
I suggest a meeting at the Welcome Sevices on the south bound M1 at
8.30/9.00am.Thereafter we have a journey of around 2 hours giving enough
time to go around the paddock and meet the cars and drivers before the
racing starts.
Please let me know as soon as possible as to whether you are going and
what day you prefer
Stuart tells me that he is visiting Runswick Bay for the on 17/18 May
for a real ale boozy weekend. he is braving the elements and camping
under canvas. He booked for both himself and his wife Clare, but as soon
as Clare discovered that he is taking his stupid dog she refused to
go.So any member wishing for a real change of lifestyle with both a
crazy real ale fanatic and a stupid dog under canvas please let me know.
Knowing his dog both Stuart and any member foolishly taking up his
offer will finish up sleeping on the grass and the dog in the tent. It
will be very interesting to find out how this weekend goes particulary
if I print this on our White Rose web site.
Regards
Peter
