TR Action 255

I hope all you TR enthusiasts have had a very festive Christmas and are now looking forward to a Happy New Year. Let us hope we get to use our TRs a little more in this coming year.

I visited Kevin the other day to have a look at his new purchase (a blue TR4) which looks very nice indeed. However, Kevin, being Kevin, has gone over the car with a fine toothcomb with wings off and suspension off to name but a few.

Oly organised a local Mixed Classic Car Run around Pembrokeshire in November when Ray, Kevin and myself joined in. We were lucky with the weather behaving itself enabling the hoods to stay down all weekend. Thanks to Oly for providing bed and bacon, sausage & egg butties for breakfast.

Whilst at Oly’s, we had the opportunity to look at the ‘work in progress’ on Martin’s new red TR7 which seems to need a considerable amount of patchwork to the underside but hopefully we will see it on the road soon. It was, however, sad to see his old green TR7 going to the scrap-yard – that is one less TR on the road.

I look forward to meeting old friends and new in the coming TR season.

I wish I could have been more active with the Dragons this summer but unfortunately circumstances have prevented everyone being available at certain times. However, we managed a camping weekend in Cenarth Falls at the beginning of August which was very enjoyable. Ray and Oly organised a run on the Saturday to Cilgerran Castle which turned out to be quite a success as there was the added bonus of a Falconry Show and a Medieval Archery Display. We then went on to Poppit Sands beach for our usual coffee and cakes in the sunshine. The hoods were down all day but when it was time for the BBQ we had to cook under the shelter of a large tree as the weather had turned against us as usual. This did not effect Ray however as a ‘Pot Noodle’ and a ‘Croissant’ do not require a BBQ! At Cenarth we met new members Phil and his wife who visited us in their green TR4 and we hope to see them again soon.

Just after this weekend, one of our Dragons, Martin, decided to venture further afield as the attached photo shows (Martin is the one on the left). He set off on his Kilimanjaro Expedition in mid August, climbing via the Machame Route (four days up and two days down) starting off at about 5,900 ft and reaching the summit, about 19,300 ft on Thursday, 18th August. Other than the fact that he had to crawl to the bar on all fours for his first pint on return to a sensible altitude, all went well. He is sorry he did not have a copy of TR Action in his hand for the photo at the summit. Well Done Martin!

The summer seems to be flying by and again this year, the weather in our area has not been what I would call ‘TR driving weather’. On the May Bank Holiday, Ray & Julie kindly organised a camping weekend in Llandovery. Ray, Julie, Peter, Ian, Martin, Anthony, Amanda, Malcolm, Joan, Martyn, Ann, Liz and myself all arrived in beautiful sunshine on the Friday. However, typical of Bank Holidays, the weather closed in later on the Saturday and a few of us made an earlier than planned dash for home on the Sunday afternoon. We had by this time spent quite a bit of time in the pub firstly watching the Champions League Cup Final and then the Grand Prix.

On 24th June, the Dragons drove north to join the Red Rose Group at their weekend in Garstang where we had a good time and only needed to put our hoods up on the Saturday. Thanks to Red Rose for organising a great weekend.

Ian in his TR4A joined us in Garstang after he had been on the Mainland & Mull Tour of Scotland. By the time he finally reached home in Pembrokeshire he had covered some 2,116 miles – well done Oly!

As a Group, we are now all looking forward to seeing Martin’s new red TR7 on the road but he has to sort out a few modifications to see it through a new MOT first. Kevin has sold his TR6 and travelled to Norfolk to purchase a very nice TR4 in dark blue which he is looking forward to using on our forth-coming weekends.
